Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

I've got a bunch of theater RealD glasses still sealed, as every time I've gone to a movie I've re-used the same glasses each time in order to accumulate spares in case I ever got a passive set at home, which is now on the way. The TV is supposed to come with two pairs so I'll have to see if there's any difference between them- I brought one pair of RealD glasses into the store when looking at TVs and noticed some slight crosstalk, but that was an extreme test with the TV showing a 2D image split in 2 (the setting to show side-by-side 3D, but in this case showing 2 completely different images). I've heard crosstalk varies between sets, hopefully it won't be a problem on the one I get. I have some IMAX glasses and just looked at my active TV with them, the right eye completely blacks out the picture on that.

LCD screens use polarization to control the light coming through, the right eye lens on the IMAX glasses probably correlates to the same angle as full "off" for the LCD pixels.

I think this is why passive screens use circular polarization, since linear polarization is the first step in making a circular polarized lightwave.

Great information, Jay. You read my mind a bit. I also wear glasses and was tempted by the clip-on lenses. I think I might order those to try for myself.

I have it. It's pretty well done (not the best) and I enjoyed the movie.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

The new glasses came in. I splurged on the clip-on lenses and also bought a pair of glasses that are said to be oversized to fit over prescription glasses. I was mixed on the clip-on. I think it might work better with different frames than what I have. Good to have around for other friends who wear glasses.

On the other hand, I loved the other pair of glasses! They fit perfectly around my prescription glasses. It sort of cupped the lenses. Plus, the way the frame is constructed also results in blocking out some of the light that would come in through my peripheral vision. It was by far the most best 3D glasses experience I've had. I was able to even forget I was wearing them, something I've never been able to do with any other pairs I've tried.

I liked it, there's a number of gimmick shots though they weren't too impressive on my Sharp TV which has a bit of crosstalk. Will watch it again on my LG that's coming on Tuesday!

Yeah, I definitely recommend it. One of the few horror remakes that I actually like better than the original.

Some good pop-outs and a nice clean transfer. Good depth and a great nude scene.

I highly recommend it.

Well if that's not a selling point, I'm not sure what is.

I've always thought the 3D is very strong. I think the movie drags at times, but it always exhibits good depth and has some nice kills.

Well, this isn't a good sign. It looks like Underworld Blood Wars is going to be the first Sony title that doesn't include the 3D version with 4K

They officially announced this? Weird if that's the case.

No mention of the 3D version in their press release. And it's available on April 25th.

A portion of me isn't surprised. Very few theaters had showings of the 3D version. For those that played it, theaters regulated it to a showing or two a day despite the film being on multiple screens on its opening weekend. Most theaters in Vegas only played it in 2D.

Re: The Official "3D" Blu ray Thread. Now with Smell-O-Vision.

saw My Bloody Valentine (3D)...pretty decent. some nice kills, eventhough only one weapon. i thought i saw this already, but must have not remembered because i didn't know about the twist. it was ok. 3D not bad either. good depth, some nice jump out effects, especially that eye scene. that was great. while this one didn't seem dark, i did think there was a lack of color. very saturated and dingy. i know mining town and down home and all that, but not sure if DP purposefully did or again, my settings. but still ok movie.

Well it's Universal, and they haven't done any 4K/3D combos just yet.

I've heard The Great Wall won't be out in 3D in the US but will be in other countries, so I'll import it.

So stupid the reasoning behind some of these decisions...

Totally burned out on T2 and don't really like conversions, but will buy this anyways just to support 3D. With Avatar 2 being delayed yet again, there needs to be something else soon to reinvigorate 3D for the masses.

Cameron did okay with the Titanic conversion, but I'm also burned out myself with recycling the old shit. I'll buy T2 3D when it's cheap. But I definitely don't care about it for the most part.
