All for May 15th (though maybe they will pop up early). The Mill Creek site seems to list all as having 5.1 tracks (except White Squall so that better be an error). Quickly looking, all the 2.39:1 aspect ratio films seem to be accurate. Doesn't appear as previous extras will be retained for White Squall and Duets but they mention theatrical trailers and alternate language options (seems like they have made some effort in improving quality lately).

D.O.A. (1988)
New York Stories (1989)
Born Yesterday (1993)
Terminal Velocity (1994)
Before and After (1996)
Mr. Wrong (1996)
White Squall (1996)
Gone Fishin' (1997)
Holy Man (1998)
Duets (2000)

Still no sign of the cancelled releases from last August. The Wrong Guy, Funny Bones and Crossing the Bridge were pretty decent films too.
This wave just showed up today at my local BJs for $3.99 each.

Wow, Mafia! finally gets a re-release. I've been waiting to replace the non-anamorphic DVD for years.

Hope these won't be on a single layer disc, like the Ernest double feature was. BTW the current Buena Vista titles are now $3.99 at Fry's.

Will "The Color of Night" be unrated?

No Bruce Willis ding-dong, no sale!

I was hoping for tons of Jane March nudity, but whatever does it for ya But yeah, the triple feature dvd they did was the director's cut...so my fingers are crossed they use the same cut. If so, I'm all over it. I like Playing with God as well so its a very good two pack.

Also, Mafia!/Crew might be worth it, but not sure.

I'm ready to pay the $9.99 for Mafia! alone, I seriously had to IMDB the other movie when I first read that announcement.

Won't these just be ports from the previous Sony releases?

I've reviewed the Hostel double feature for another site. It drops all extra features from the original Sony Blu-rays, which were as packed as any special editions on the format. The transfer for the first Hostel on Mill Creek's BD is acceptable and basically looks like the Sony transfer.

The review hasn't gone up yet but the sequel fares much, much worse on Mill Creek's disc. It's largely unwatchable, with a horrendous amount of black crush obscuring much of the action and an added dose of sharpening to top it off. One of the worst transfers I've seen on a relatively recent movie in several years. I'm not sure anyone familiar with the movie would have let that transfer pass quality control.

My recommendation would be to run and pick up the existing Sony Blu-rays, before word gets out how much better they are than the newly reissued BD.

No, they are clearly not from the same video sources. Different encodes and different transfers, if I am not mistaken. The Hostel movies' rights somehow got transferred to Lionsgate, who then licensed the movies out to Mill Creek for this new disc.

Thanks much. I'm honestly not in any hurry to upgrade them to blu but if the Mill Creek set was good I was going to pick it up for around $5 just to cut down on space. I'll just hold on to the DVDs for now.

Nope. Sony licensed them out as Sony owns the rights.

If Lionsgate had the rights, they would've released the titles themselves.

... and this is the correct thread for the Sony and Hostel discussions.

Something is going on between Lionsgate, Sony and Mill Creek here. Now that I examine the copyright notice in incredibly small print on the back of the package, the movies are licensed from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. But that mention is it in regards to Sony references anywhere on the package or disc. The Hostel double feature Blu-ray itself plays a Lionsgate logo trailer before the movie and the only studios referenced in normal sized print on the case are Mill Creek and Lionsgate.

Maybe someone at Mill Creek thought Lionsgate had something to do with the Hostel movies and made a mistake? This disc definitely exists, I am holding it in my hands. It's very strange, I think there isn't much quality control going on at Mill Creek for these discs.

Hostel and Hostel: Part II were produced by both Lionsgate and Screen Gems (Sony).

Lionsgate only owned the North American theatrical distribution rights. Sony owns the actual property alongside North American distribution rights and all international distribution rights.

Not in the Wal-Mart across the street, alas. I can't stand When a Stranger Calls, but Happy Birthday to Me is one of my favorite '80s slashers.

Despite the cover art, the word is that it has the original soundtrack.

Upsetting that they went back to the old DVD art after it was re-released with the original art.
