Obsession is one of my all time favorites. It's the only film to ever emotionally choke me up at the end. I was literally left speechless for several minutes when I originally saw it in the theater. No film has ever had such a hold on me and I never forgot it. I credit De Palma and the three leads, Robertson, Lithgow and especially Bujold along with my younger self for that experience.
I can't wait to get this!

Having just received Vamp and Bay of Blood, I must say I'm a little irritated by the double-wide cases they use. Even with the posters and inserts, the discs easily have fit in slim cases.

From the UK? They typically use those cases.

Yeah, the vast majority of UK Blu-ray releases come in those covers.

MoC used slim cases, but I guess they're the exception then. Is there any particular reason for it? It seems like a waste of space to me.

Every UK release I have imported uses the thicker-style BD cases. I usually just slightly cut the artwork and slip them in a USA-style case to save space. Except for titles that have Slip Covers...no point.

My MoC copy of Une Femme Mariee is the thicker case. All of my U.K. imports are that way though, I just put them on the shelf doesn't bother me.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

Aren't the thicker cases only on the initial pressings in the UK in general? Don't they start using the slim ones after that? Usually it's thick case with sleeve then slim case, no sleeve.

I usually pre-order Arrow discs so I don't know what they do after the initial pressings. I imagine with all the packaging that goes into it they need the large case.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

The only imports I own are Let the Right One In and The Vitner's Luck. Both are the thicker cases, although Let the Right One In includes a slipcover.

That's their only non-slimcase release, although with the move to combo packs they'll soon be using the thicker cases for every release.

The Beyond BD is in stock at Diabolik.

FYI, early copies still have the opening in B&W and the feature has a low bit rate. Contact Arrow and provide proof of purchase, they will send you the corrected version.

I thought the opening was supposed to BE in black and white and only the German theatrical release had it in color?

It should be sepia toned

Many releases over the years have had the opening in sepia tone (Grindhouse, Anchor Bay) but the correct tinting should be a yellow-gold which was available on two release that I'm aware of (No Shame, EC Entertainment). The No Shame version came from the original negative. The DP has stated he used colored gels to obtain the yellow-gold effect instead of the usual sepia tone.

It is still not known what the Arrow opening will look like except that it definitely is not B&W. The test discs were B&W and low bit rate and were replaced by the 'correct sepia.' We shall see what that means soon.

Ah, I was never aware of the more yellow/gold tinted tone. Sepia tone would be certainly be closer to what the DP got originally than B&W though

Yeah, my copy of the Phenomena BD is on its way as well. Looking forward to seeing the longest cut.

Obsession pre-order is up on Amazon, with a release date of 8/1. Also, Amazon now has a 5/2 release date for The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and a 6/20 release date for Cat O' Nine Tails.

Excessive DNR seems to be an ongoing issue with this company. They should spend less time on atrocious cover art and more time on quality control. That said, I thought Vamp looked quite good, all things considered. The selection of extras was pretty nice as well - Deedee Pfeiffer is as adorable as ever - but I don't think they need to include opening and closing credits for a 25 minute featurette.
