I think Sly said he's working on that now and that it'll be released next year. But they could save it to tie-in with the sequel.

This seems likely. There is definitely a longer director's cut as Sly has openly talked about it. I know most here will run out and buy this version instantly, but I'll pass on the theatrical cut and wait for the inevitable loaded director's cut since I don't plan on revisiting this film any time soon.

I follow him on Twitter and he just locked his extended Director's cut. I will pass on this plus I didn't like the movie but I will watch it again in Director's Cut form.
