Disney splitting up Blu Ray & Blu Ray 3D releases?
Saw this over at Amazon and thought it was interesting (and hopefully not a new trend). Disney has several listings for Oz the Great and Powerful. They have a Blu Ray + DVD + Digital Copy, Blu Ray + DVD, and a Blu Ray 3D + Digital Copy. They don't have a Blu Ray 3D + Blu Ray + DVD + Digital Copy like other releases. So is this a new game plan by Disney to make a couple more bucks or a one off deal? Guess we'll find out soon enough.
PS - there is a coupon for $5 off the Blu Ray + DVD + Digital Copy that you can clip out on the Amazon page.

This is total BS IMO. As if $31 isn't enough for the 3D less BD, but no extra content either?

Are you people actually complaining? I thought you hated the different formats being crammed in together?
I wish I could get the Prometheus set at a better price because I don't need the 3D disc. I'm not seeing the problem here.

If the coupon was offered on the 3D edition, I would've purchased that as I don't necessarily need the DVD (or the digital copy for that matter). In this case, I guess I'm waiting.
The four-disc set has been as cheap as $14.99 at Best Buy before.

Again, like past Disney releases, it should've been:
Blu-ray + DVD
Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy
There's no need for three SKUs. This is also a guaranteed way to continue the downfall of 3D. If this is how Disney will treat future combo packs I'd purchase, like Iron Man 3, there will be hell to pay.

Especially bad in the case of Disney movies. I can see where the family of 4 may want the 3d version, but when the kid has a sleepover, they can't choose that movie because they don't have a 2d version or 8 pairs of glasses

This blows.
Of all the movies to start this mess on, it just had to be this one. I don't have a 3d set up, but if I was to get one, this would be one of the titles I would most want because I really enjoyed the 3d. I was really counting on the future proofing DVD/Blu/3d Blu set.

I wish more discs would be like Dredd and just include the 3D version of the film and the stand version of the film on one single sided disc. There shouldn't be a reason to have to include a bunch of extra discs.

Actually, there often is a reason. The use of floating windows can mean that the 3D version cannot be used to derive a 2D version and the 2D version needs to be a separate encode. In these cases, it's better to put the two encodes on separate discs (for compression-quality reasons).

Lame if the Blu-ray 3D package costs the same premium as it does now. Personally, I dislike 3D quite a bit and it doesn't affect me, but think it definitely sucks for people who do buy 3D and might need buy a 2D version separately.

Good, this will force me to save a few $$$, some movies I buy in 3D/BR and BR because I know they are coming in the same package for $5 more. Now, I will just buy the BR version and leave the 3D on the shelf.
3D is not even close to being a big selling point for me. Love Lion King in 3D, then the list gets real small after that. I have about 9 3D titles, without the BR included I would have only bought LK and maybe Titanic.
Goodbye 3D...RIP.

They ought to drop the DVD and just package the two BDs together. Then have a deluxe package with all 4 formats.

I'd actually be okay with this. So many releases come with a lot of crap I never use. I'm sure if studios were to opt for this option though you'd see more movie only discs and could only get the extras by buying the deluxe editions. It already happens with some discs actually.

I usually get the version with all the discs, but looks like I'm gonna keep it simple and go with the regular Blu-ray with Digital Copy. It has the best cover anyway...

Re: Disney splitting up Blu Ray & Blu Ray 3D releases?
Really disappointing. I came around to liking the complete editions after initially resisting them. (even going back to buy some that I missed) But live-action films not made for 3D are easy to pass up. (Do they really think people are going to buy two releases?) We can only hope they don't extend this to the animated films.
