I haven't opened mine yet either, but apparently there were a lot of places where the subtitles were way out of sync, and also parts of conversations just completely missing in translation.

I just bought the box from Half-Price Books with a $5 coupon figuring they would do an exchange like this, so I'm going to go ahead and send mine in.

Wow, I sent mine Wednesday night (I think I missed the pickup though), maybe mine will be in tomorrow if not today. I'm in the Chicago area also.

Groovy. I'm sending mine out tomorrow.

Have you had a chance to watch it yet to check out the new subtitles?

Re: Gamera: Guardian of Universe & Gamera: Attack of the Legion Blu-Ray

I looked at it for about 5 mins. Went straight to the newsroom scene, which I knew was completely off before. It's perfect now.

edit:

checked the war/conference room scene instead. since the newsroom scene actually wasn't that bad when I checked the other copy. But it's fine regardless. More dialogue is now displayed in that scene.

Also, they fixed a graphical issue on this bluray. If you were used the popup menu and went to chapters. The images used for each chapter were messed up.

Can you check the subs in some of the extras? Over at tohokingdom, one of the people there checked his replacement and the subs in the extras cover the whole screen.

tks

Kidding, of course. The subtitles really were bothersome and lacking the first time around, but now they really are worthy of their Kaiju content.

As long as the movie subs are ok, I'm fine with the GINORMOUS EXTRA SUBS.

Look at the bright side. Everyone who sends in for their replacement, still has their original blu ray to watch the documentary with normal subtitles. It's better than nothing.

I guess that's what I'll do, find a 2 disc case and just keep both discs together, though I'll have to figure out a way to remember which is which.

Weren't subtitles missing or behind the dialog or something on the extras before the correction?

The extra subtitles on the original DVD lagged behind the actual dialogue. They would say something then 20 seconds later, the translation would appear.

Finally got my copy in. The subtitles for the film are now great and even the japanese text used for exposition is translated. However, the subs are gargantuan in the extras but I paid 8 bucks for the trilogy so I wont complain.

EDIT: for those who want to know, the disc art for the original pressing and corrected one is the same, save for a serial number on the new disc. My copy states, 63054-11-A on the right side of the blu ray.

Finally picked up another player (Panasonic 215 at Costco) and spun up part 3. It seems a bit grainy, but it makes feel a bit more real. Subtitles seemed okay, but I hadn't really scrutinized the first pressing so I can't be sure.

I just received one from Amazon at it's 63054-12-A. My guess is that the subtitles for the film and extras have been corrected, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

The subs for the film will be fine, but see post #59 for an example of what the subs will look like for the extras. If you get anything different, then let us know.
