Re: Gamera: Guardian of Universe & Gamera: Attack of the Legion Blu-Ray
Mill Creek Has acquired the rights to Gamera 3: Revenge Of Iris and plans to release a Blu-Ray edition sometime in 2011.
I have not yet seen this made for kids "Gamera: The Brave". I guess it happens after part 3 and the fan made film since the events from these films seem over.
Please feel free to look this up yourselves. It's been a while since I've looked it up. Never seen it myself. I've been dying to though.
Just found a link. I have not fully read the page yet. but I am sure this is good info ...

GAMERA III (1999) is by far the best of an excellent trilogy, with the most accomplished special effects of any Japanese monster movie up until that point. The sequence where the two creatures burst through the walls of the train station (subway station? can't remember) during the climax is still a throat-grabber.

Would have been really nice had they included this film on a second disc. I'll just have to keep holding on to my Japanese trilogy set til that happens.

That the one with five discs in the black textured box? If so, that's the one I've got, and even if I bought the Mill Creek sets, I'd probably hang on to that just for the staggering amount of interesting supplemental materials that came on those extra discs.

Never seen these movies but I did see the Godzilla film GMK, which if Im not mistaken was made by the Gamera director (?). That was a really good Godzilla movie.

A couple of reviews. Mixed on both films, sadly, but forgiving:
http://www.doblu.com/2010/10/16/game...iverse-review/
http://www.doblu.com/2010/10/17/game...legion-review/
I'm not familiar with that site, but it appears the reviewer is at least acquainted with previous releases of the films (well, at least the below-par ADV editions). Sounds like these could have been much better -- "dim, graying blacks", "blocky and digital", "smearing in closeups", though not entirely without positives, thankfully. The cheap-o price tag seems to be the appeasement factor. Sigh. Hardly surprising Mill Creek would cram both films onto a BD-25. I doubt we'll ever see anything better in the U.S., and the Japanese Blu-rays appear to lack English subtitles, so they're probably banking on fans being so grateful to have them at all, and content that they're better than the previous set of DVDs, that they won't much complain. Kinda sad how many catalog Asian gems so rarely get a break these days, what with Blu-rays that barely seem like Blu-rays. I have so few 'double-dips' in my collection, and now I'm kinda wondering if I need this, even though the price is undeniably tempting. The screencaps at the bottom of the reviews suggest these are more than watchable, at the very least . . .

I just got my set yesterday and I think that the movies look pretty good. Sure there are some of the usual problems that come with budget releases, but I can overlook those. I am very happy with this set and can not wait for the third movie to come out.

For those that don't peruse the bargains forums, this is down to $5.49 at Amazon as I write this. That's more than enough of a bargain to overlook the disc's flaws.

I snagged one up with that Asylum 10-Movie Mega Set, so around $40 for 12 movies

1080p? Check.
Japanese DTS HD-MA 5.1? Check.
Bonus material that Mill Creek promised us? Check.
$9.99 SRP? Check.
Yes, goddamnit! That's how you fucking release a catalog title!

Rated R?
Also, isn't there like an incomplete 4th film in this series?
Interesting tidbits about Godzilla (98) and King Kong (05) sales numbers on that sell sheet PDF.
Also, may as well ask here, I've never seen these, but I've picked up the double feature Blu, plus the 8 older movies on DVD since Gamera seems to compare favorably to Godzilla (which I've been a fan of for some time). Are there any other releases to grab now?

The MST3K Gamera set contains some of their best work.

While I'd prefer to see some of the older Gamera titles hit BD, I'll pick this up for the inevitable $6 Amazon will sell it for.

Is there a confirmed release date for part 3 yet? Nevermind...it looks like it's September 27th. Also, I wonder what makes the Trilogy Set limited edition...just the box?

Never actually saw those eps, but I order every MST3K set, so this is already coming.
Matthew, your link to Mill Creek's entry doesn't work, but searching on their site yields this
http://www.millcreekent.com/gamera-t...-slipcase.html
A very nice looking boxset for the trilogy. I may find myself double dipping on that first disc just to get this set.
Also, where does Gamera The Brave (2006) fit in? Is the current DVD from Tokyo Shock/Media Blasters worth getting?

Update on extras for the Gamera trilogy Bluray. Apparently all the goodies are on the part 3 disc so you don't have to double dip.
