Yeah, well, so did George Lucas. I'm not entirely convinced that's how Neil Marshall wanted it when he first made the film, or hasn't changed his mind given what he can do processing it digitally. But hey, God only knows what they could get out of the print they got. Goddamn shame they couldn't find the negative.

Yeah. This seems like it's a last resort type of thing. It was either that or something worse.

Yeah this change sounds completely different than a George Lucas change for the sake of doing so. This was done for the fact that the original elements weren't able to be found and they worked with what they had.

Exactly. Not sure the result had to be that way simply because they didn't have the negatives available.

If you don't want the Shout BD, isn't the original BD still better than the DVD?

If the original BD isn't a straight-up upscale from standard-def, it's in the neighborhood.

Going only by the screen caps and reviews I have read, no. One of those few cases where the BD looks worse for whatever reason.

Just noticed that in mcarver's latest out-of-print thread that Return of the Living Dead, Child's Play, and Misery are going OOP from MGM.

Could these be a surprise Comicon announcement from Scream?

Even though I have the original ROTLD DVD and the blu-ray, I would consider this if it has the original soundtrack. Might alse be down for ChildsPlay since I never bought it on DVD or blu.

The thing I dislike about Scream and franchises is they usually make you buy the entire series in a set, no singles. I bought the MGM single of original Amityville Horror. Still haven't gotten original Walking Tall because it's set only. Waiting for $15 or less.
If Scream does get ROTLD, Child's Play, Phantasm, Romero dead, be prepared to shell out for the entire series/franchise. No pick and choose the ones you want.

Nothing to worry about with this one. Warner has the first sequel and Lionsgate has part three, and neither of them license to Shout/Scream Factory (or anyone, really).

Universal already released a Child's Play collection on Blu-ray, so I'd be surprised if Scream Factory basically just reissued it. The first one, maybe...

My copy of Decline of Western Civilization shipped yesterday from Amazon.ca

It'll be here in less than a week. Hey, for $23 and some changed shipped (when I preordered it a few weeks ago) it's a steal!

They need some big titles so they can slap the Collector's Edition label on it and charge you $20 for a couple of new extras.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what titles Shout/Scream will announce at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con. They have said 10 will be announced.

(I have no idea which studio, owns what film and if they license them out)

My guesses/ hopes.

The Thing
The Blair Witch Project
Black Christmas
Phenomena
Night of the Living Dead
Carrie
The Entity
Savage Streets
Night of the Demons 3
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

Phenomena is being painstakingly remastered by Synapse and may see a release by the end of the year.
Savage Streets is still available (intermittently) from Code Red
I don't think Shout would be able to get the rights to Black Christmas.

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

Isn't the Black Christmas remake Universal? Dead Silence is a Universal not available.
I'm thinking there's something in the works for Dawn of The Dead.
Original Phantasm would be great
Couple 70s Universals I'd like: The Car and Sssssss
Maybe Universal will give them their Hammers
There's enough Vincent Price titles not announced by Kino to make up a Vol. 3: Diary of a Madman, Twice Told Tales, Oblong Box, Master of The World, The Bat(WB), Mad Magician(Col)

Who owns/controls Rabid?

Scream Factory posted on Facebook that these'd all be films from the early '70s through the early '90s.

Of the ones you listed (that I know stuff about, anyway):

Possible
The Thing (Universal; Scream said this wouldn't happen, but they've said the same about other titles they wound up releasing)
Carrie (MGM; actually, Scream was going to release this, but MGM was being weird; wanted them to pay for a new scan but wouldn't make the necessary elements available...????; expecting this to go to Criterion, though)

Not Happening
The Blair Witch Project (Lionsgate; doesn't license out; already on BD; wouldn't be part of this wave from what Scream has said)
Phenomena (coming to BD from Synapse)

Depends on Which One You Mean
Black Christmas (the original is apparently still in print on BD from Somerville House/Critical Mass; the remake is with Weinstein, who, AFAIK, doesn't license out, but it wouldn't be part of this wave from what Scream has said)
Night of the Living Dead (the best master of the original is controlled by Weinstein, last I heard, anyway; Twilight Time has the remake, which wouldn't be part of this wave from what Scream has said; someone needs to release it on BD, though!)

Maybe
The Entity (with Starz/Anchor Bay; already on BD; but Scream and AB have played nicely together before)
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (still in-print on BD from MPI, who I don't think would license to Scream)
Night of the Demons 3 (with E1, I think; I haven't heard of them licensing out titles, but it's possible)
Savage Streets (on Blu-ray through Code Red; but Code Red is working with Scream, so...)

I'm not sure. If you're region-free, Arrow just released it in the UK.

Replying to myself, Scream said in a podcast a little while back that they had the Child's Play sequels but would have to wait a year or two after the Universal box set was released, so they passed. They said they might still pursue it later, which could be appealing since two and three are barebones on BD. I don't think they'd go for a box set, but I could be wrong (again).

That's a good deal. I probably would have bit on it had I seen that deal.

Does Anchor Bay still control Phantasm 1, 3, & 4? It would be cool if they team up with Shout again and release a complete box set.

I'm hoping for Popcorn (1991). Does another studio still hold the rights on this one? I thought it was going to be released by Code Red a while back.

I'm hoping for Psycho IV since they already released the second and third films. Maybe even make it a double feature with the Bates Motel tv movie. I'd also like to see House (the Steve Miner film, not the Japanese one put out by Criterion), but I don't think it'll happen. The sequels to Jaws would be welcome additions too. I'd take Night of the Demons 3 just because they've released the others, although I still need to pick up the sequel.

Aren't they supposedly being held back by the possible release of a new Phantasm movie? It's 2015 and I've heard nothing about them getting released. Why do I have the feeling they will get dumped on Blu-ray in 2018 when the format is dying?
