When was the last time we saw this, over a year ago with Universal and Hellboy 2, right?
This is somewhat surprising since Paramount was one of the first studios to start doing a majority of their extras in HD.

Are they at least substantial enough to warrant being on a second disc?

Maybe Paramount didn't care enough about the movie to do the extras right on bluray. Remember all the negative buzz before the movie even came out? The movie was a decent enough hit, I am sure they will do better with the sequel.

I'm not buying that excuse....movies that did much worse at the box office and were much "smaller" films got HD extras from Paramount....hell, IMAGINE THAT, another major Eddie Murphy bomb, just came out with HD extras.....other relatively "smaller" new release titles from Paramount from this year which all came out with HD extras include DANCE FLICK, DEFIANCE, and HOTEL FOR DOGS.....

THE LOVE GURU, maybe the biggest bomb of all last year, came with HD extras for pete's sake! I think we have a right to complain about getting the short end of the stick on GI JOE.....

I think its because they rushed the release.

This normally would have been a December release...

In such a case, I totally understand. I've just seen a lot of instances where people let their phone go off, then start talking away as they exit with a total disregard for the theater patrons. Sometimes they just stand in the area where you enter the theater and talk and let bits of their conversation be heard whether others want to hear them or not, and from the bits heard it's usually work related. That's the whole thing I meant by people can do without someone else for about two hours.

Anyone heard about the pricing for this, is Wal-Mart going to have the Blu-Ray for $19.99 as opposed to $22.99?

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - 11/03/09

I came close to grabing this but so far no reviews. I didn't see at the theater either. I did go on another site, Blu-Ray.com and some gave it high marks for visual and audio and action. Basically saying a good "popcorn/bubblegum" movie but with a slightly better plot than Transformers 2.

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - 11/03/09

blu-ray.com's review on the quality and film itself are pretty accurate. Its a love it or hate it type of action cheese ball. I liked it but there was room for improvement.

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - 11/03/09

Rented it last night on BR.

My family and I had a blast watching it, lots of non-stop action and that is why I wanted to watch it. Some acting was off a bit, but that was OK with me, it added to the feeling I was watching an old Cartoon TV Show. Loved the fighting scenes and some of the FX was cool, some of the other shot you could tell they were done on Blu-Screen.

Loved the Red-Head woman, her acting was spot on when switching her "emotions".

Was much better than I thought it would be.

Only Extra was a commentary and some pre-views.

Wal-Mart does have it for 19.98 I believe.

Yep, they did.

Upon watching this, I think it is like Transformers 2 in that it is great if you want to show off your system and TV. Not much for plot though.

If/when they make a sequel, I think the only characters they should continue to build upon are Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Baroness, and Scarlett.

I'm not just saying this because I like kick ass fight scenes or the actresses are hot. Upon another viewing of the movie I just think the actors playing them are the only ones who had any idea as to what they were about or did any research into them. The rest are kind of typical Hollywood/cookie cutter villains, but these four felt like the ones from the comic and TV show.

I can agree with the other three, but the Baroness strayed WAY too far from the original TV show/comic incarnation IMO......
Spoiler:
I mean, come on now...in this movie, she was an American, was previously engaged to Duke, and is Cobra Commander's sister??? You couldn't get further away from her cartoon characterization if you tried...

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - 11/03/09

I don't know how they will expand on Storm Shadow after this film considering...

Spoiler:

Snake Eyes pretty much lets him fall to his hypthermic death.

As for the Baroness, they strayed a lot further:

Spoiler:

Aside from being in love with Duke and under a spell to be in love with the man who would be Destro (at least this part stays with the cartoons and comic books), she was married to another man.

I also didn't like that Cobra Commander's "origin" story or how the "modern" Destro looked. I did like that they tried to cram as many Joes and Cobras into the story.

Oh, and by the way Stephen Sommers, thanks for...

Spoiler:

Stealing the X-Men ending. True, the X-Men ending was a body swith with a senator but same concept here.

I listened to the commentary and it does sound like Sommers is defending the film with the "writer's strike." Transformers 2 was also affected by the strike and as bad as the film's plot, storyline, and overall momentum were; TF2 still is more entertaining.

They can always
Spoiler:
find a way to make her permanently evil. Maybe she just decides she likes being bad girl. In terms of the accent, that's kind of a nit pick IMO, on the line of complaining about Spider-Man's organic web shooters. Sienna Miller played the evil part so well (and close to the original character) it would be a shame not to let her continue. I do agree about the whole nanos and her being CC sister though. As long as they don't call attention to it in the sequel, I'll be okay.

It's called a "minor inconvenience" in film parlance. Don't worry, he'll be back. Hell, the actor playing him said so.

I'm not an old-school G.I. Joe fan, but I recall reading that Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow eventually teamed up in the comics, right? I think it'd be cool to see that in a sequel.

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - 11/03/09

I was not satisfied with the reeason for why Snake Eyes doesn't speak:

Spoiler:
Vow of silence in respect for a dead mentor. He could have broken his silence to at elast utter something as Storm Shadow fell.

G.I. Joe: Resolute gave a better reason:

Spoiler:
Storm Shadow slices Snake Eyes throat, Rendering him unable to speak permanently

And seriously, the lips for Snakes Eyes were more distracting then Optimum Prime's lips. At least Prime's lips had a reason to be there.

dont get me wrong i am huge fan of Johnathan Pryce as a actor, but since when did the us constitution change to allow someone who is not american born to be president.
the least steven summers could have done would have been to direct mr pryce to speak in an american accent and not a british one.

Ah but in the beginning of the film it does say in the not too distant future... A lot can change apparently.

Still waiting to hear how some here likes the BD. With Up, Star trek, and Ice Age I may do a wait and see. Didn't see U but heard good stuf about the movie and ICE Age got a solid review on the audio and visual. Talked to someone who did see GI Joe at the theater and said good action.

If you're curious about the actual movie, there's plenty of reviews from the theatrical release to judge it on.

The Blu-ray itself is ok. Picture quality is fine, but the extras are on a regular DVD with the digital copy which kind of sucks.
