"Criterion once again provides us with an unparalleled technical disc here. The pain in their eyes is perfectly clear thanks to the deep blacks of their pupils. While, this is a film about survivors of one of the great tragedies in human history, one of the great tragedies of Blu-ray history has been avoided. You will find no DNR here folks, just the rich, human textures of sad faces not waxy sorrow."

Nothing personal, but I completely tune out when I see Dr. Svet Atanasov's reviews.
It does look like an awesome disc, so I'm definitely interested in checking it out.

More out of print Studio Canal titles:
Fortunately, I already own all of them - but it is sad to see so many of their Melvilles leaving the collection. Hopefully Studio Canal/Lionsgate actually do something with them.
Dear Criterion collectors,
We wanted to let you know that the following titles are going out of print effective March 31:
Army of Shadows
Le cercle rouge
Le doulos
Last Year at Marienbad
Léon Morin, Priest
Mafioso
We have limited stock on hand, and will be selling copies through the 31st, while supplies last. As in the past, we hope to relicense the films so that they can rejoin the collection sometime in the future.
Sincerely,
The Criterion Collection

Anyone who doesn't have Army of Shadows, get on that shit NOW - easily one of my favorite films/blu-rays.

Just ordered Léon Morin, Priest. It was the only one in that list I was missing...

As soon as I saw the announcement, I ordered Army of Shadows, Le Cercle Rouge, and Leon Morin, Priest (all on blu). I already had Army of Shadows, Le Cercle Rouge, Mafioso, and Le Doulos on dvd, as well as Marienbad on blu.
Now I'm all caught up with stuff that's out of print until the next batch.

Luckily, I was already on Facebook when their message popped up. Got Marienbad from Amazon, and the other three Blus from third party sellers since Amazon already had the 3-11 day notice. Figured they wouldn't be getting any more if they had to re-stock.

Don't know how many here will care, but apparently Criterion is going to be restoring 18 (!) of Satyajit Ray's films:
Almost all the old Indian films I've seen are in pretty bad shape, so it will be really nice to finally see some of these in good prints. I already have the three Artificial Eye boxsets of his films, but these will probably end up looking significantly better.
Anyways, Ray is one of my favorite directors, so I couldn't be happier about the news - particularly after seeing how much better they made The Music Room look.

Having bought the home video rights of The Apu Trilogy, Charulata, Mahanagar and Nayak among others, they are set to do "frame by frame" restoration before distributing them in the US and Canada. What's more, director Abbey Lustgartern is in town to film personal accounts shared by artistes who have worked with Ray, to go with each film.

Sweet. I've had the UK Blu-ray import of Devil's Backbone for a couple of years now. It will be time to retire it for the CC version.
