The distribution rights to the movie switched over to FOX now including the U.S.

Now doubt the U.S. release of this upgrade will have all the same extras posted here. Unless you're obsessed with steelbooks, I would just wait until the U.S. announcement.

I hope Pacino's "Ferocious, aren't I?" line is added back in. Got so used to it from all the times I watched this film on VHS.

The packaging calls this the "Director's Definitive Edition," which suggests that Mann has made even more changes to the movie. He's the type of director that can't stop tinkering with his movies. Every time he looks at one again, he makes another change to it.

The running time is the same 170 minutes, so who knows.

He could have cut some things out and added other things back, for no net change to the running time.

Is this going to come out in the U.S., or just the U.K. so far?

re: Heat: re-release slated for 5/9/17

hanshotfirst1138 beat me to it, as I also wanted to ask if this will get a U.S. release. It is really rare that I pick up a release that is specifically produced for the U.K, Germany, etc.. The last time I ordered an import from Amazon was for the Police Academy blu ray set (it was a great price, and I thought it would not come out in the U.S.)

re: Heat: re-release slated for 5/9/17

Part of me interested in this, assuming it gets a US release of a different cut. There's another part of me that knows the original blu-ray is on my shelf and I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

The last time I watched this it was still the snapper DVD.

re: Heat: re-release slated for 5/9/17

I'm going into this assuming this does not include a new cut of the film. The last BD of this included Mann's content changes and ran 170min. I find it hard to believe he'd tinker with it yet again in such a way that did not alter the film's run time.

re: Heat: re-release slated for 5/9/17

I think I'll hold out for the UHD US release. But at least the screenshots and more natural color palatte give me hope we'll see a good release here in thr States. I just hope the sound is upgraded to Atmos. This movie could really benefit from it.

will the bluray be produced in US? are the new extras playable on US players, even though movie is region free?

re: Heat: re-release slated for 5/9/17

Per the review of the set on blu-ray.com, thru mention this:

"* All of the supplemental features that are included on this two-disc set are perfectly playable on North American Blu-ray players, including the PS3."

It's region free, and there are no PAL extras

wouldn't be surprised if Fox uses the same specs and same disc whenever it comes out in the US

re: Heat: re-release slated for 5/9/17

They are speculating that Criterion is going to release it, which would explain the delay for Region 1.

which means def no Atmos, as they don't do that. Also the opening of the blu when you hit play, has the FBI warning and an MPAA rating screen

I think Fox took the rights. The last blu release was done by them. So who knows how it'll be released here.
