Re: Battlestar Galactica: Complete Series Blu-ray Collection -- July 28th

I first put this in the thread in the regular DVD foum, before seeing there was one here about this news too, anyway, I want to know:

I am going to assume this complete series release will also include "Razor", since the DVD release of Season 4.0 included it....but I am wondering if this will include "The Plan" which is set to air a month or so before this is released....if not, then it won't truly be THE COMPLETE SERIES, and there better be a standalone release on Blu-ray of this last film!

Anyway, while I hope this isn't too expensive, who am I kidding, I'm buying it no matter what the frakin' price tag is!! This is one of the best shows of all time!!!

Re: Battlestar Galactica: Complete Series Blu-ray Collection -- July 28th

i will most likely not upgrade the entire series - i have been watching the SD releases upconverted, and to be honest, it is ok for me. at this point, i will only need season 4.5 and the caprica pilot.

I thought the same at first, but comparing my Season 1 HD DVD set to my Season one DVD's -- the difference is HUGE. It is actually a big improvement.

Totally agree with you man. The HD versions were a huge upgrade compared to the dvds.

Definetly give it a shot.

Hmmmm... own all the seasons on Standard Def DVD, and Season One on HD-DVD.... Not sure if I want to spend more money on this. May just wait until there's an incredible sale for this down the road... I'll want to revisit the series in a couple of years anyways...

Re: Battlestar Galactica: Complete Series Blu-ray Collection -- July 28th

I just bought 4.0 the other day, after still finding the BB exclusive. But now I'll return it, and try to sell my unopened 2.0, 2.5, and 3 (s1 is HD-DVD, which I guess I'll keep). I'd much rather have the HD versions... I never expected them to release all of the seasons on BD at once. This is awesome news!

I need to sell my set in the trade thread, but never get around to it.
If you enjoyed those series, as I did, I see no reason why you would not enjoy BSG, as I do.

Re: Battlestar Galactica: Complete Series Blu-ray Collection -- July 28th

I recieved the seasons 1, 2.0,2.5 a couple of years ago and watched them them the first time last january. Awesome stuff. I bought season three watched that and kind of petered out half way thru. The story quality just wasn't the same as previous seasons. Don't get me wrong it had some good episodes, it just didn't hold my attention. I heard season four is a return to good stories so I am willing to wait till this complete series is released to finish the saga.

I'm going to spoiler tag this, because it is a bit off topic and does include spoilers:
Spoiler:
As I suggested before, I found the first season unrelentingly grim and humorless, with characters I mostly disliked.

I was under the impression that Baltar was intended to be a complex character who was supposed to be somewhat sympathetic, despite his villainy. I ended up hoping that Baltar and Six would get offed because I utterly despised them and their whole subplot. But, of course, that would never happen and there are "many copies" of Six anyway. I intensely disliked the whole business of Baltar being caught in embarrassing situations while engaging in his Six fantasy encounters. Same sort of puerile stuff that makes many modern comedies and sit-coms so un-funny.

I was offended by the commentary for Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down which suggested that the episode was supposed to be funny. Alchoholism and drunks are supposed to be funny?

I disliked the whole "God" versus "Gods" theme, although it was apparently a clumsy attempt at foreshadowing events in future seasons.

In general, episodes I liked were few and episodes I disliked were many. I could go on, but I think I have made my point. Not everyone likes the same things and I don't get the almost universal, fawning, praise that BSG gets here at DVD Talk. So I presented a minority viewpoint. I understand that almost everyone else disagrees with me, including you.

Spoiler:
To each his own, but not every movie or TV show needs to be leavened with comedy. "Galactica" begins with the annihilation of human civilization, and one of the central themes of the show is humanity's struggle to survive an apocalypse. It's bound to be a bit "grim."

Re: Battlestar Galactica: Complete Series Blu-ray Collection -- July 28th

Despite owning all of the BSG releases on DVD (including the standalone DVDs of the Miniseries and Razor), I am definitely planning to double-dip and pick up the Complete Series on Blu-ray!!! I have enjoyed the last two seasons in HD on the Sci-Fi channel and I would love to own them all in HD... Please, Universal, include The Miniseries, Razor, and The Plan in this set

Already sold my discs. Surprisingly they've held their value fairly well. I guess they've never had some of those blowout sales other series have had.

I sold my DVD sets a few months ago, in anticipation for a complete set this year. This is even better.

I just saw his signature. It better not be true because I still have to see season four. I'll be so disappointed if I just had this ruined for me due to someone's signature!

That quote does exist in the first episode of season 4.5. However, it is just a vision.

Agreed and totally not cool. I'm just trying to diffuse the situation in this thread. I've reported the post to mods to get attention to the sig.

I've also heard the universal praise for BSG, and was sent the 1st season on HD DVD. I watched a few episodes and was not engaged at all. Also, I hate their season numbering system. Just number it like every other show, for god's sake.
