Re: Watchmen Motion Comic ---> 3/3/09

Just posted in the DVD thread - I'm all over this. The motion comics are better than I thought they'd be and it's nice they're including the digital copy. I probably won't watch this too often but if it says "Watchmen" on it, chances are I'm buying it.

I'm not so happy with the females being voiced by the same male actor, but I got used to it. The motion comics are pretty good.

I'd buy it if it were $5. I know the motion comics were something you had to buy on iTunes, but I don't see the point in spending $20 on it. I'll wait till after the movie has come and gone in theaters and get it used.

I actually thought that WB was going to include them as extras for the Watchmen DVD/BD. I'll buy it on release day if any retailer has it for $15 or less. If not, i'll wait until the price drops to less than $10.

It's been years since I've read the graphic novel so this will be a good way to catch up before the movie.

That's why I'm willing to pick it up the first week if it's $15 or less. $15 - $7.50 = Blu-ray for $7.50. After the first month, the ticket is worthless.

Have it on itunes . . . I will skip this unless they do-over the voices.

Anyway this should have just been included on Tales Of The Black Freighter. When is that out ?

Weak - the digital copy is for WINDOWS MEDIA. Thanks for nothing Warner...and while I'm at it, Canadian buyers be aware that there is no Movie Cash included with our release of this. I really wanted the motion comic so I went ahead and bought it anyhow, but $30cdn without itunes support and no movie cash is pretty fucking terrible.

Could it be due to the fact that you can purchase it through iTunes? Maybe they have some special contract....could also help explain why the new season of South Park being released (the 12th) comes with digital copies that are WMV only....

Paramount only released 1 title (IIRC) with a DC that was iTunes compatible. All of the others have been WMV. Warner is wishy-washy with what they do. Some iTunes...some all...some WMV. Its a money issue I'm sure. Amazing how Wonder Woman, released today, is iTunes while Watchman, released today, is WMV.

I got the Blu -ray Amadeus that had a WMV only digital copy. Pretty annoying but I guess I'd never watch it anyway.

I did notice that on itunes a season pass for the HD Watchmen copy was 2.99 last night and then Free this morning. It says Regal offer next to it. Not sure what that means.

Re: Watchmen Motion Comic ---> 3/3/09

I think this is worth getting for fans - seeing the artwork on my large TV was great, plus having it read to you lets you just absorb it all while admiring the artwork... check out a clip to see if it's up your alley but I think the Motion Comic is a great compliment to the graphic novel and a fun way to revisit the material. (not sure what MBoyd saw on iTunes but the season pass is currently $19.99, so whatever promo that was is over)

Re: Watchmen Motion Comic ---> 3/3/09

Well...

Unfortunately I didn't know this was coming out on DVd so I had bought the season pass months ago when iTunes started selling the episodes.

The episodes themselves are great... once you get used to the fact that it's one guy doing all the voices, including the female ones. I just finished watching the last one on iTunes just before this was released.

I'd heartily recommend it to show anyone who might be interested in this in liught of the film coming out but wouldn't be caught dead reading a thick graphic novel. It's a great book but some people just wouldn't invest that kind of effort on reading a comic book so this is a good alternative.

Believe it or not, the pacing of the story in this format made me catch things that I'd missed, even though I've read the thing numerous times throughout the years. So yeah, I don't mind having to double dip, although as I said, had I known, I wouldn't have wasted the cash for the iTunes pass seeing as how the small size of the file makes playing it on a plasma screen horrible to look at. the Blu-Ray on the other hand, looks fantastic and clear.

So I'll probably play it for the wife to get her caught up before I see the film on Saturday.

Re: Watchmen Motion Comic ---> 3/3/09

I've watched 3 chapters (albeit, just the Digital Copy, as I can't watch the Blu-ray until I return home), and I'm really enjoying it. I finished reading the novel this week, so it's nice to have everything covered one more time before I watch the film.

This is probably a dumb question, but why is Alan Moore's name omitted from the credits of the Watchmen Motion Comic?

Probably because Alan Moore does not want anything to do with any and all adaptations of his work.

Re: Watchmen Motion Comic ---> 3/3/09

He believes that Hollywood doesn't translate the comic medium properly (especially his work). His films are (for the most part) pale comparisions to the comic (From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Plus, 20th Century Fox was sued over League and Moore was forced to take the stand to prove that he created the work himself and didn't plagerize it (from a similar screenplay). Fox ended up sweeping it under the rug and paid off the writers. Moore felt that they were admitting they (he) plagerized the script.

And finally, Joel Silver LIED to the media by saying Moore personally approved the V for Vendetta film. That was when Moore turned his back on any future adaptations of his work. He requested that his name be removed from any credits and the artists get whatever pay that was coming to him.

He's kinda moody.

Moore doesn't own the rights to Watchmen. DC Comics does. It was done work for hire (Tho DC did screw him. They said he and Gibbons would get the rights back to Watchmen whenever the book goes out of print. DC has never let that happen. Even before Graphic Novels became the rage.).
