I would pick it up if I didn't have the HD-DVD, but I refuse to double dip on anything I already have in 1080p. I liked the movie but not so much I have to have it in the best presentation available.

I had the 2- and 3-disc DVDs of this so the Blu was the third time I bought it. At least I can say I have all the extras I need for it.

Is this just the Production Diaries and the extras from the previous releases? Either way I probably won't pick it up. Never really dug it to begin with. I find it hard to believe Universal would add new content for this one.

I don't think so. If from what I'm reading online about the DVD Production Diaries... that was only like 4 hours. And even w/ all that shit from the BD/DVD stuff put on... I don't think it'll add up to 13. Unless I'm way off.

Obviously a tie-in for Skull Island. I might pick it up if there's a movie ticket included (which I'm sure there is).

Re: King Kong (2005) - 1/20/09

If it has all of the extras so that I can get rid of my EE DVD and and production diaries for them, I'll think about it. I already put the extras disc from the two-disc DVD in with my BD, and I seriously doubt this will have anything new.

Glad I held off buying KK till now. Would be nice to get rid of the 3 DVD sets I have to collect all the extras.

I've got the Universal steel book already but I am probably going to pick this up if the price is right.

Hrm. That's every feature, yes? Unless those Production Diaries are the small bits we got before and not the whole set thing we got on DVD. Really wish we'd stop getting DVDs in sets like this and the such.

My Ultimate edition would include a version under 2 hours.

Re: King Kong (2005) - 1/20/09

Doesn't go into any detail but I would expect both the Production Diaries and Post Production Diaries to be the full content from the special Production Diaries DVD box set and the second disc of the first 2 disc DVD release. All would easily fit on the bonus BD.

I'll be glad to be able to dump all three DVD sets in favor of this new one set and the (likely) ticket to Skull Island.

Kong: Skull Island is Warner Bros while PJ's King Kong is Universal, so likely no movie cash.

I had missed the deal to move it to WB. Bummer.

I think I'll hold out for the 4K release that will never be released.

How did that move work out btw? I'm still... confused. At it's simplest... it reads like Universal just let it go to WB cuz of their deal w/ Legendary. It can't be that simple, right?

Spoiler:

I thought the movie was bloated. Some of the extra stuff in the extended edition was cool, but I just don't have the time anymore to sit down and watch a movie that is over 3hrs long and feels ever bit of it. And 13 hours of content is cool but kinda crazy and overkill.

Yeah, I won't go through all of those extras, as much as I like extras and Jackson. But the movie kind of killed any want to go to it any deeper.

If this has all of the extras from the three-disc set DVD and the second disc of the two-disc DVD, then I can finally get rid of those and save space. But I guess I'd still have to hang onto the production diaries.

If you've forgotten what a colossal disappointment Peter Jackson's KING KONG was - here's an ultimate edition to remind you!

Based on what I have seen in the posts above yours it appears to have the Production Diaries as well. Between the two blu-ray discs on the set it has everything released before.

I'm in the "dump my shelf-hogging DVDs and BDs" camp so I can get this slimmer package with ALL features for likely around $15 once it hits shelves. I'm sold.

Everything? I haven't gone through and done a comparison, but it sounds too good to be true . If it does, I'll get ride of my 3-disc DVD, my Production Diaries, the BD and the Post-production diaries disc extra from two-disc DVD, and save a ton of space, please God, be right .

Of course, then I have to find out what the UPC was on the Production Diaries since that was on the big box that I threw away if I want to sell them....

Seriously doubt that they'll polish up the transfer any, but apparently it was stunning to begin with.
