I couldn't disagree more with all the people who find the movie to be too long, I love every minute of this movie. Which is saying a lot coming from me considering it is a Jack Black flick.

but Jamie Bell's character could have easily been sacrificed to the cutting room floor.

All together, his scenes added up to about 10 minutes. For a 180-minute movie, do ten minutes really matter?

First off, the original King Kong was one of the first movies I ever saw. My uncle always put that one (and Planet of the Apes) on for me as a kid. It is truly one of the greatest films ever made.

Second, Jackson's version is incredible. I saw it opening night and I was that little kid all over again. Too long my ass, those few hours flew by.

But alas, I will not be getting this. I have the two disc, the three disc delxue and the production diaries, that is what I want on this Blu. If they double dip and include all that, then I will get it.

I like alot of the extended editions, special editions, directors cut for many other films.. this is one of the few times where the theatre version was just fine as is.

I agree, but that's the beauty of seamless branching!

how the hell does branching NOT mess up the music/sound effect cues?

The versions diverge when changes occur even if there's some duplication and overlap of the scenes stored. So, you can't think of it just changing with different shots. It changes for entire sections so the music and everything else is.... well seamless.

Cover art added to OP. I was hoping they'd use the theatrical sheet with only his face showing, but it's the recycled HD DVD cover.

Damn, how is it that we can have two hi-def releases of this title and still not include the extras?

+1

Seriously, they could have easily done us all a favor, put all of the DVD extras from the three previous releases (production diaries, theatrical cut, extended edition) on one extra BD disc by keeping them in standard def, and sold a bunch more copies....instead people who want extras are forced to hold onto the prior releases, thanks but no thanks Universal....

Very true, but I think that USED to be a Fox problem, but instead they have woken up and gotten the message...look at a bunch of their recent catalog releases: The Omen, Daredevil, Planet Of The Apes, Young Frankenstein, Firefly....all of these have their previous extras plus some new ones as well...

The only recent release I can remember they have sucked on was "Dude Where's My Car", but that was one of their old holdovers from their crappy early days that they just didn't bother to change when they delayed it....I doubt we will see anymore MPEG2 transfers with extra features missing on a BD-25 from Fox, if their recent announcements are any indication...

I agree. I didn't care for the even longer cut at all. I'm sticking with my 79 cent HD DVD.

I have watched this in the theater and was wondering what did they add to the extended cut.

There were a couple extra monster attacks. These were mostly versions of scenes that were in the 1933 original that didn't make the 2005 theatrical version.

I really do plan on picking this up. I guess I better sell my HD-DVD copy of King Kong soon (if anyone even wants it still).
