I've read that the picture quality on Verizon FiOS is, for all intents and purposes, identical to over-the-air TV broadcasts. In other words, the don't re-compress anything. I guess this is because fiber-to-the-home allows for gobs of extra bandwidth.

At any rate, is this true? Does anyone here have FiOS? How do you find it compares to cable or satellite?

My neighbors all have FiOS and the local HD broadcasts are just like OTA. Of course, my locals via Directv Mpeg4 are identical to OTA as well.

18 months ago, FiOS PQ was superior to D* (SD and HD). Now that Directv has gone to Mpeg4 almost exclusively, the PQ is about the same (depending on station and particular show).

OTA is better. I found Fios to be about the same PQ as the other cable companies I've used (Comcast, Bresnan).

FiOS is WORLDS better than Comcast, a little better than DirecTV and about the same as OTA. Wow, spellchecker had a field day with that sentence.

Better as long as you can tune it in! I have never been able to get CBS' HD signal well without resorting to tinfoil on rabbit ears.

Anyone have experience comparing Fios and Directtv hd on a 108" screen with front dlp projectors?

I'm in Yonkers and we were pretty much the last of the suburbs to get it, even though we're right adjacent to the city.

I have had FIOS for a year and a half here....I previously had Comcrap....it is no contest, FIOS looks about 137% better, but that is just a rough estimation....
Also of note, the standard def channels looked about 1284% better than Comcrap...

Exactly the situation I cannot get Verizon to help me with.

At first they told me I could get setup so that I could compare with my DirectTV service in my theater. I wanted to A/B in my theater for a while.

Then they told me that when they set me up, they will cut my copper wire. So much for going back if I did not like it.

I have tried repeatedly to speak to people at Verizon and cannot find a one who is intelligent enough and knows enough to help me. I am not going to just redo my theater on a whim.
