Ryder was a pretty hot young star at the time, wasn't she? She'd just done Heathers, if my memory serves.

She had just come off a string of movies in quick succession: Beetlejuice, Heathers, Great Balls of Fire!, 1969, Edward Scissorhands, Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael, and Mermaids. The story goes that she was suffering exhaustion and had a breakdown just before shooting on Godfather III was supposed to start.

She felt bad about bailing out of GFIII so she presented Coppola with the Dracula story.

Coppola has said he would never allow it. You're better off recording it if/when it comes on HBO again.

It'll look good on your refrigerator next to the "Taxi driver" haikus.

This limited release, like Luca Brasi, will "sleep with the fishes".

Really unnecessary.

I'll never understand why people want the chronological edit released. It absolutely ruins the brilliance of Part II.

I do like the extra scenes, but yeah, chronological edit ruins part 2.

You mean the version the filmmaker was intimately involved in putting together?

True, but it's an interesting variant and a part of the film's history.

I'm sure that most people who would be inclined to own these movies on Blu-ray already have the theatrical versions. If Paramount expects anyone to double-dip, they'll have to offer something more compelling than a simple repackage of old discs.

exactly. i'm merely curious how it all plays out, but it will never take away from the brilliance of the first 2 theatrical cuts...

Instead of the chronological order version, I wouldn't mind extended cuts of GF I & II with the deleted scenes back in.

Spoiler:
I think it was FF Coppola's intention to show the aged Michael Corleone as dying alone with a broken spirit, having lost his daughter. His children has been treasure, which he mentions several times throughout the film.

I always think Godfather III was very much maligned mainly because of Sophia Coppola's perfomance, but the theme of "karma" is confidently depicted all throughout the film.
My thoughts exactly.

While THE GODFATHER III has its faults, I think that it's a worthy successor to the first two films. The final moments played against Cavalleria Rusticana's "Intermezzo" were as poetic as cinema gets.
