Re: KINO goes Blu
Yeah, I've actually have never seen the film. I've held out hoping that one day it'd be found. And here we are now. I'm a 23 yr. old guy who didn't have to wait tooo long for a masterpiece to finally be pieced together again.

It's the fully restored version. It just premiered in Berlin a couple days ago. It will premiere in North America at the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Classic Film Festival April 22-25 in Hollywood . Not sure when it hits Blu-ray/DVD.

From Classic Flix:
A somewhat odd choice for Blu-ray, considering the many more commercially viable titles in Kino's catalog, but with the remastering already done elsewhere, I suppose it was a relatively easy production process.
Kino has scheduled an August 3rd release date for special editions of Pandora and The Flying Dutchman in separate standard and Blu-Ray DVDs.
Each is expected to be a single disc release. Details below.
SYNOPSIS:
In this timeless romantic fantasy from director Albert Lewin, Ava Gardner stars as a nightclub singer vacationing in Spain, with whom all men fall hopelessly in love. But Pandora, never having known true love, is indifferent to her suitors' affections. Until, one evening, she swims out to a mysterious yacht and meets its captain (James Mason).
Mastered in HD from the 35mm negative of the 2009 restoration, this Kino edition preserves Jack Cardiff's (The Red Shoes) vivid Technicolor cinematography with breathtaking clarity.
BONUS FEATURES:
* Comparison of original vs. restored Technicolor footage
* Alternate opening title sequence
* Three theatrical trailers
* Two galleries of documents, stills, and behind-the-scenes photos
* El Torero de Cordoba, an eighteen-minute documentary about the legendary Spanish bullfighter
Each is expected to be a single disc release. Details below.

Re: KINO goes Blu
Just got the Happy Together and Fallen Angels discs and wanted to say how much I love the slip covers. Normally I don't care and I've thrown a lot of covers away, but these are really nice!

Here's a review of Steamboat Bill Jr., and the transfer apparently is pretty lousy:
The amount of edge enhancement at work here is as times overbearing..... Still, a bit of edge enhancement would be acceptable. The issue here is one of contrast, which is so blown out, it can be nearly blinding.

Re: KINO goes Blu
I never thought I'd say this but, F**K! It's getting to the point where I'm going to need to be selective with what I buy on my Birthday. The choices being Night of the Hunter, Modern Times, Metropolis, Twilight Zone Season 2, and this (not to mention the BBS box the next week). Please, let me suddenly become rich before the end of the year.
