I work in inventory at a common retailer. I was told this morning by our GM to pull all the HD-DVDs except for 3 or 4 that had just come in, and send them back. She said that the distributors were only allowing a very small window for them to be returned for credit and that we needed to send them back ASAP.
I wonder if the distributors are going to apply these rules to retailers going forward here, how are stores going to carry the last few months of releases, like Sweeney Todd and There Will Be Blood. I doubt many stores will carry them or even have a spot for them at all by the point. If they carry them and they don't sell, the store might have to each the cost, and end up selling it in a Not Returnable Sale for like 75% off.
In a small market like the one I work in, every penny is essential to the store's bottom line and survival.

Well I just jumped on the chance to buy a 2 month old XA2 + Transformers from someone locally for $300. It came from Best Buy so it wasn't a refurb thankfully.
First, holy shit - I had no idea how heavy it would be. It really is built well compared to my A20.
Second, it's nice to finally bitstream DD+ and DTS-HD from imports. I will say the bass seems slightly better on Transformers bitstreamed from the player to my 605. But I supposed that could a volume difference or a placebo effect.
This will of course be my primary player, with my A20 as a backup and my A1 a distant memory in the corner.
Thankfully I checked the AVS firmware thread before I updated to 2.8 - apparently that created issues with MPEG4 AVC discs (pretty much Paramount discs), so I'm sticking with 2.7.
Great player for $300. I wish I would have spent the extra to get it instead of the A20 last spring.
EDIT: Corrected to add the MPEG4 AVC issue with 2.8 is limited to people using the player in 1080p24 mode.

I found that one of the local stores had started carrying HD DVD & Blu-Ray movies after the first of the year. I called this afternoon right when I got to work, and the manager said he had just gotten the email and had pulled all of the titles for pricing ($14.99 2/$20).
I stopped by after work tonight, wasn't too much left. Some guy gave me the once over when I asked the clerk where they were, and left the section holding 12-16 cases. I did pick up The Brave One, Invasion, The Amateurs, and Stardust. I will stop by tomorrow or Sunday and see if there are some checked out (fingers crossed) really wanted American Gangster, and Zodiac.

Has anyone seen price drops at the second-hand stores (besides HV)? There are a few places around here that sell used books, DVDs, CDs, etc. They only had a few HD DVDs, but they were still the same price as before, although the guy at the register said they'd probably drop the prices soon. Either way, they currently have used versions of King Kong for $10 and Blood Diamond for $12, plus some other $10 ones that didn't interest me very much...

I went all the way through checkout to the payment confirmation page and it still shows $79.95 (plus $7.03 in tax, grrrr). I got a chuckle out of the "All sales final on HD DVDs" disclaimer in red. Oh well, no soup for me...

Those are links to the actual Discovery Channel Store. You need to go to the Discovery Channel eBay Store.

Okay, so I got my 360 add on from Gamestop today. It was brand new in the box with all the cables and remote. The player was $49.99 and labeled as used, and it had King Kong which they sold separately for $9.99, also used. I was able to apply my Edge card discount to both and got the whole thing for under $60 out the door. And it applies for the 5 free discs.

For people shopping for HD Dvd's at Hollywood Video and want to know which stores carries HD discs,go to their website and search the store locator by zip code or city. There will be a Blu-Ray logo under the listings for the store carrying HD discs(about 60% here in the greater Los Angeles area). Also call the store first as some stores will not do the sale until later on.I was at the Burbank(Alameda ave) store and they told me they received the $14.99/2 for $20 sale instructions from corporate but they were not going to do the sale at this time but maybe next week.

I recently purchased a 360 add on, but I somehow lost my receipt before I could send the rebate in for the 5 free movies. Does anyone have a scan of a receipt I could use? I'll happily send them some money via Paypal for their troubles.
Thanks,
Kyle
