Try buying one and let us know if it does.

PS3 is a VIDEO GAME CONSOLE. Just because it can play Blu-rays does not classify it as a BLU-RAY player.

It excludes the 360 AO because the only purpose of it is as an HD DVD PLAYER, otherwise you would not be buying it (and like consoles the markup is very low on these, they can't take a $30 hit on these).

Xbox 360 is a VIDEO GAME CONSOLE. It can play DVDs. Would you ever try using a coupon that says "20% off DVD Players" on an Xbox 360? No. How about a PS2?

Keep in mind the markup on game consoles is incredibly low. A retail store may make $15-$20 tops on the systems, the real profit is in software and accessories, hence why stores force you to buy bundles when a console comes out (or its popular like the Wii).

Best Buy simply will NOT give someone $100 off a $500 PS3 and eat $80. Not going to happen unless you get hit with a stupid CSR and a stupid Manager who overrides it.

I'll give it a shot this week on the PS3.

When my HD-A1 busted and they couldn't fix it, BB let me use the replacement plan to pick up a PS3 since they did consider it an "HD Player" along the lines of the HD-DVD player. Obviously it's a bit different since that was basically an exchange, but they had no issues with me saying it was a Blu-Ray player.

Tell that to the Sony marketing department.

Getting it to work on a PS3 is one of the YMMV deals - sometimes you get an idiot customer service person / cashier.

It won't work for the same reason you can't use a 20% off DVD player coupon on a $1000 PC with a DVD-ROM drive or on a HTIB with a DVD drive or whatever. It isn't a BD player, it's a PS3.

Fortunately for us, Best Buy has plenty of these to go around.

I think this will see a very large fail rate for PS3 buyers, but I'd be interested to hear some success stories provided they are legit ones!

I'd be shocked if more then 1 person gets away with it, as it would take a stupid CSR and a stupid manager to override the stupid CSR for this to work. If it does, I'll gladly go down and pick up a 40GB PS3, but I don't see this happening.

I got the coupon as well but I doubt it would work on the Samsung 5000, and even then, its still getting bad reviews after the latest firmware update.

I just bought an A35 last week, and I used 12% off. Didn't get these coupons for my RZ account. Second straight set they didn't send me. I would really appreciate it if somone who is not using one of these could please send one my way. I imagine I can get them to PM, or else I can do a return re-buy. . .

PM me if you can help.
Thanks!!!!
Dave

You never know...

It kinda depends on who is manning (womanning?) the checkout lines and which manager is on duty. I had a 10% off Best Buy electronics coupon last weekend that specifically mentioned blu-ray players but also specifically excluded video game hardware. I tried it with the 40GB PS3 I was buying anyway and offered the rationale that it was a blu-ray player. The clerk was skeptical but called the manager, who let me have the 10% discount. They might be a little more reluctant with a 20% off coupon, but I would give it a try...

I donno...at least at my local store, I think you would have a pretty good arguement that the PS3 is in fact a Blu-Ray player as they actually display and stock them in the DVD player aisle next to the other Blu-Ray players. Of course, they are also in the VG department, but still. I think it's an arguement you could win if the coupon doesn't specifically exclude it.

At my BB the PS3 display kiosk(system, monitor, etc) houses BD movies instead of games.

This is very nice... i don't have this coupon but i'll pass the info to a friend. 20% on the PS3 is YMMV, but the fact that the coupon didn't mention anything about the PS3, chances are it might just work. If i have the coupon i will try it immediately.

So, can I print out the coupon on Page 1 of this thread, or does it have to be the mailed version (possibly with some code that identifies me)?

No, it has to be some hard copy mailed to you or something... the scan got no bar codes... if there's an overriding code, it's probably all over the net by now. I'll check my mail tonight.

That doesn't necessarily mean anything.

The CEO of Sony was still flat-out denying the last sony price drop when there were circuit city scans all over the internet and it did ended up dropping withen 48 hours of his denial.

I've been waiting for some kind of deal or price drop on the ps3 since the Warner fiasco. $300 and I might just buy 2 (basement and bedroom - I hate moving equipment around).

Well, I hope you're right. At $300, I'm in.

This would have been awesome for the A3 I picked up a few days ago, but it was open-box, and I got it for 25 bucks

I'd be pissed if the price dropped since I just bought one from BB last week.
