Tekkon Kinkreet (dir. by michael arias, from studio 4C);
USA and UK both get Blu-rays on September 25th 2007

Infernal Affairs - HK Blu-ray is out there, as is 'Warriors of Heaven and Earth'.
Amazon lists pre-orders on 'The Messengers' (Pang Brothers), 'Final Fantasy : Spirits Within', 'Memoirs of a Geisha', as well as having listings for ''Curse of the Golden Flower', 'Banleiu 13', if any of those count other than the last couple.

Great idea for a thread.

R1 really needs some more foreign films, the list is quite small.

Logboy, I don't think The Messengers, Final Fantasy or Memoirs of a Geisha are considered foreign films. They have foreign directors, but are US made films in the English language.

List updated guys!

Pro-B

ps. Memories of a Geisha and the likes above I believe fit the same criterion as Babel...and I did not include it.

Did you mean to omit Japanese releases?

Currently available on BD in Japan: Innocence, Wings of Honneamise, Patlabor 1 (all with English subtitles). Wings of Honneamise will be released by Bandai Visual in the US in September.

Coming soon: Akira, Avalon, Jin-roh, Patlabor 2, Ghost in the Shell

I think he's counting that because it's not an American production.

Then the list should also include other British films such as The Queen.

Well, PE isn't "cinema" since it wasn't shown theatrically (AFAIK), but yeah I guess The Queen should be there too.

I think the Academy Awards follow this rule also, as I don't think I've ever seen a movie from England or Australia get nominated, and the only Canadian films that get nominated are French-speaking films.

But I do find this list useful, although I'd recommend splitting out imports into a separate list. I assume that the imports are all playable in the U.S.?

Officially, the Oscar category is called "Best Foreign-Language Film", so English-language productions from foreign countries are not eligible.

I'm unsure whether foreign-language productions from the United States (such as Apocalypto or Letters from Iwo Jima) would be eligible. If they are, I can't think of any that were actually nominated.

Haha, Ralph, you caught this before I did! Oneasmith still doesn't beat my favorite bastardization of the name...Wings of Honeymaise! Sounds like an order of buffalo wings! XD

I really hope Wings of Honneamise gets the treatment it deserves, especially in the video department.
