First wave of Weinstein HD-DVD's out early at Fry's

I was at the Downers Grove IL Fry's tonight, and they had the first wave of Weinstein HD-DVD's out. They had a few copies each of the Matador, Wolf Creek, Derailed and Scary Movie 4. I picked up a copy of Matador. 22.99 each.

Also, they had them marked with a street date of 12/5, so their POS system didn't stop them from being sold like I have experienced with them in the past when stuff was out early.

Was The Matador the rated or unrated version. I'm curious about the latter since they're being released seperately.

I'm not aware of an "Unrated" version of The Matador. The two DVD editions are Widescreen and Full Screen. There is only one HD DVD.

Last I checked at Amazon, there was a rated and unrated version listed. Now an unrated version might be a crappy cash grab but on the off chance that any changes might actually make such a fun movie even better, I've held off on buying either until some reviews for the unrated version would pop up.

I just looked it up on Amazon now, and there's no Unrated listing. I think you might be confusing this with another movie.

Ive seen all four of those movies at 2 different borders. The borders in South Portland Maine has a huge selection ( well 1 of each title lol) of Hd-dvd and Blu-ray. The only problem is that they are typically $10 more than any other place.

Have you noticed Borders had a totally different cover for the SD version? One a lot closer ot the poster art if I remember correctly. I was hoping that would make it as the cover of the HD disc but no luck.

I ordered the unrated version of Matador from Amazon and got the rated version. Is there a major difference between the two versions of this movie? I'm debating whether I should return it since it's not the unrated cut.

Has this now become a running joke or something? There is no "unrated" version of The Matador. There is no listing for an unrated version of The Matador on Amazon either. There is no listing for an unrated version of The Matador on DVDEmpire, on Deep Discount DVD, or by searching other retailers on DVD Price Search. IMDb also has no information on alternate versions of the movie.

I think it's fairly safe to say that there is no "unrated" version of The Matador.

i think thats the cover of the unrated edition.

The specs were exactly the same on the disc at Borders as the other DVD release, and there was no mention of unrated. They just seem to have gotten a different cover.

Yes, I may just have a bad disc. However, there are widespread reports of this movie giving people trouble. If the majority of copies are defective, I have to address that in my rating. If Weinstein acknowledges and corrects the problem in a future pressing run, I'll amend my review accordingly.

I just checked. Yeah, they must have had it as one of those Amazon placeholders and just took it down when no such version materialized. Back when i saw both versions listed they didn't even have a picture of the coverart.

It took nearly 2 minutes to load on my HD-A1 and it wouldn't load on my 360 add on.

I've read a lot of people having problems with the Weinstein discs. However when I played it on my A1, it loaded as fast as other discs and played without a flaw. I'm running 2.0 and have only witness one disc freeze which was during King Kong.

Just wanted to add some more anecdotal evidence to the thread.

I finally got around to watching The Matador tonight. RUnning 2.0 on my A1, it took very long to load-3x as long as other discs. But it played without any glitches. I was pleasantly surprised by that and the film.
