Just some HD questions from a HD newbie
Finally got my HDTV today, love the way it looks.. and after playing with the settings for a while i'm very impressed with the picture from my dvd player and cable via scart's and av.
Ive just purchased a DVD player that up scales dvd's and uses the HDMI cable. I'm kinda dissapointed as the description of the TV said it had HDMI ports, but it has DVI. I've found a HDMI to DVI converter cable on ebay, its not to expensive and looks the part. Just wondering if there will be much, if any quality loss? Also I was very unhappy with the PS2 hooked up, the picture seemed real slow to update, and had huge black borders down the right side of the screen (had slight ones on my old tv) But quality wise it looked better on my old standard tv. Any help is much appreciated.. thanks alot! |

The PS2 is not made to be played on HDTV's hence the ugly picture quality. You'll have to upgrade to a PS3 or 360 if you want to enjoy video games in HD.
Either system would also give you a cheaper out to entering the world of BluRay and HDDVD. |

Someone more knowledgeable than me about it can explain this, but I believe there's an issue with using HDMI-DVI conversion. It has to do with the colorspaces being different, or they can be different. It may depend on the player and display though.

There can be issues with hooking up an HD-DVD player via HDMI-DVI converter but I didnt have them, and the quality is great on mine. You could always look for last years Oppo upconverting player which has DVI, but I honestly dont think there will be a difference. Remember the PS2 is old tech using basically composite so it wont look that great as regular digital cable wont either. You have to live with it or just go HD like some of us ..
