Sony and MPEG 2 ....

News is out now that Sony will be moving to use H.264 after they put out some MPEG 2 titles. Good news for those of us, myself included, worried about them sticking with the older tech forever.

Sony also looks like they are pushing hard towards phasing out MS's VC-1 use altogether. (Gee, I wonder what would prompt them to do that!)

I think that should be, "Apple suggested making VC-1 optional." As opposed to "required support" for the codec.

FWIW, the BDA allegedly accepted VC-1 as mandatory on the condition that Microsoft stay neutral. As they reneged on their promise, Apple had every right to request a reversal. But this late in the game, I don't think it's not going to happen.
