Sadly, the Internet is Forever - at least until we lose all electricity. However, you should not leave the forums.

Re: I am leaving the forum permanently
One-by-one is the self-deletion option for open threads although other members:
a) may have quoted you, meaning that a version of your post remains, and
b) be annoyed if a thread you started disappears as a result (I'm not sure if that still happens)
FWIW, I don't see the point in grand (or not so grand) announcements about leaving. If someone wants to leave that is for them to do and whether or not their posts remain is usually irelevant. Some of the material here seems to be archived elsewhere anyway, which means that if one was worried about personal information (that you'd chosen to post online at some point) remaining in the public domain, options would be limited.
Using a screen-name that does not immediately lead to one's actual Real Life identity seems a worthwile measure for anyone who thinks their past may come back to haunt them. That or posting in a style so as to avoid future shame.
Mods/admins will not become involved in deleting regular members' posts wholesale. IB have concurred with this policy which apparently is the case across various of their sites.

Re: I am leaving the forum permanently
We had this guy at our forum who became a teacher and was afraid his students might google his rather embarrassing internet past. He was a facepalm-moron with retarded views and opinions.
He deleted most of his posts which must have taken some effort because of his high post count over the years.
I don't see the point of doing that but yeah, some people have their reasons.
