Oh lord, not that again. Did anyone else's office have this thing spread like wildfire about 1-2 years ago? It was an attachment with an innocuous name, and when you opened it, your computer shouted 'HEY EVERYBODY! I'm LOOKING AT PORNO!" very very loudly.

The Mature forum is NOT listed on our new DVD Talk Toolbar (which is now in beta)

There are links to all the top level forum areas, so this might address the issue of mis-clicked selections.

I can remove the mature link from the drop down on the front of the site.... Would that address the issue? (as a splash screen is problematic at this point- technically)

If you took it out of that, and the top drop down on the forums, I'd be golden.

I tend to accidently have my cursor in the top drop down, and scroll to mature with the scroll wheel when trying to scroll down the page.

i still think the best solution is a warning screen that would go away with a cookie, but i guess that's not possible with the current software.

I dont think it would be that big of an issue to just remove it from the top and bottom forum jump pull down menus. People can still enter it through links in other and the main forum page

The problem is mostly in the drop down menus on the page. The one underneath the DVDTalk logo in the top left hand corner of the page and the one labeled "Forum Jump" at the bottom left of the page.

It's very easy to accidentally move your mouse a couple pixels and BAM you've got tits on your screen at work.

Or not realize that the menu is active and accidentally roll your mouse wheel trying to read a thread/forum and suddenly BAM you've got tits on your screen at work again.

I think the two best solutions are to remove it from the menus and/or put an intermediate screen before entering the Mature forum, just like Venusian said.

I've always felt that Mature shouldn't be on the dropdown lists and should be accessed via the link in Other.

That would allow Other to serve as the intermediate page.

Only a warning screen every time is going to completely eliminate the possibility of accidentally ending up in Mature. If a thread is moved from Other to Mature, it will still appear to be in Other until the thread list is refreshed.

not everytime, only one time and if you click Yes to enter then it sets a cookie. this way someone can set it at home and not at work or whatever. if there is no cookie set, then it will show up everytime.


also, not sure how hard it is, but can't a mod just delete a thread and recreate it in Mature when moving it? kinda like how yall merge threads?

Not that I know of. We usually remember to move the thread without leaving a redirect. But that doesn't help someone who took a break and didn't refresh the thread list when they came back. We could just delete threads posted in Other that should have been created in Mature, though.

Getting rid of the drop downs would be fine for me, as I don't read other.

Plus, I'd think most threads that get moved have thread titles that people would be wary of clicking on at work in the first place (with exceptions I'm sure).

Not to put too fine a point on it. But I've addressed this to the extent that I can/will.

You now have 3 solutions if you'd like to have an easy to navigate drop down for the forum without mature:

1) you can enter through the front page of the site whose drop down does not have mature listed.
2) you can download the new DVD Talk Toolbar which also has a non mature drop down
3) in any forum area you can click on the DVD Talk logo which will return you back to the front of the forum so you can select another forum area

Not to be an ass, but you're not being very receptive to member wishes regarding adult material lately. Adult material used to not be a part of the site, and when the mature area and adult ads where introduced they were done with promises from you (if I recall correctly) that they would be as unintrusive as possible for those that were offended by it/didn't want it popping up at work.

Yet you ignored requests to get rid of racy review covers in links on every forum, and now ignored requests from several to make it less easy to accidently end up with porn on your screen at work.

I was considering a premium membership, but you can forget about it if you're going to make this kind of adult stuff this prominent as I browse 99% of the time from my office.

Absolutely not the case. I'm being very receptive. It's just you're not backing off of something until you get exactly what you want.

Here's a run down of the issues and exactly how we've responded:

- In this thread the issue of accidently slippage resulted in unwanted visits to the mature forum. We provided 3 alternatives to people to accomidate this issue

- In the thread: can we keep the softcore reviews out of the regular forum? (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=342133 ) The issue was raised about 'softcore' covers making their way into the mainstream forum. We immediately pulled several titles from rotation in response

- Adult Ads - We've had a policy for several years now that our adult banners do not appear on the site durring the day (US Business Hours) and that the adut ads which do appear at night are PG or PG-13 rated with no graphic displays of sex or sexual activity. This has not changed in any way over the past few years, if anything with the growth in traffic to mature areas of our site more of the adult advertising gets served into these areas and consequently there's less visability for it in the non-adult areas

- Excesive Pops - We've addressed this issue technically on our end so that people aren't getting pop city, worked with advertisers to educate them about the distain for that ad type by our readers and launched a toolbar that enables users to block them

The ONLY time of late that we haven't directly addressed an adult related complaint was in this thread: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=337770 where someone asked us to pull a cover from rotation in the mature forum however a simular request: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=297105 was in fact honored

So you're welcome to gripe about the solution we've enacted to this particular problem but you're way off saying that we're not being receptive and that we're ignoring requests.

Well, that's hardly a solution in this case. The hassle should be on those wanting to go to the mature forum (by removing drop down links and making them click the link in other) not on those of us that don't want to go their accidentally as this isn't and adult site and you've always tried to make it family friendly.

I mean it's pretty absurd to censor cursing, and yet make it so easily to unitentionally have nudity and sexual content popping up on the screen.

But it's your site, I'm just offering suggestions and if they're not met the sites not worth my $$$.

Your claim was that 'I was not being very receptive to member wishes ' and 'you ignored requests to get rid of racy review covers ' I think I've shown that you were off base with both of those comments.

If the issue isn't addressed to your level of satisfaction and you're not interested then in becoming a future premium member of the forum, that's certainly your right. But don't think for a moment that the issue wasn't taken into full consideration.

Response to solutions 1 & 3: So everyone else who doesn't want accidental racy images on their screen at work needs to go back out to the main page, only to come back in through another link? Also, this still doesn't solve the problem of accidentally having the drop-down menu active and landing on mature when trying to scroll with your mouse.

Response to solution 2: There are a ton of us who don't want more stuff installed on our computer, especially in the form of a toolbar. Most people hate toolbars.

My question to you: Why is it necessary to have the Mature forum in the drop down menu list? If it's so the Mature forum gets more hits and the adult ads get more views and you get more money then that's fine, just say so.
