DVDTalk no longer works with Netscape Browsers

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this. Move the post if necessary.

Just thought I'd check to see if it was me or not. For the last week or two, I have been unable to use the Netscape browser to look at the site. Apparently there has been some sort of a formatting change that hangs the browser. I have tried this with from multiple machines so I know it's not just an isolated problem.

It might have been nice for someone to say "hey, we're about to make a change that will screw all of you on Netscape" instead of letting us find out the hard way.

Still like the site but now have to open IE just to look at it. Not smart thinking from a coding perspective.

I posted this by mistake in the DVDTalk forum first. My apologies.

Which version(s) of Netscape? Have you tried Mozilla?

Netscape's coders making Netscape was not smart thinking. That program has been over-bloated for the past 5 years.

All-together, a little less than 4% of users use some version of Netscape or Mozilla.

Roughly 95% use Internet Explorer 5 or 6.

Which one should web designers worry about again? The aging Netscape 4.x which has a hell of a lot of rendering problems, or Internet Explorer? Netscape 6 and 7 generally displays pages the same as IE does.

I use Phoenix as my web browser, which is based off of Mozilla code, from which Netscape is based off of, and the site loads fine.

</small>I have no inside knowledge but I suspect that this is the first anyone connected with the site will have heard about the possible incompatability: I can't really see Geoff <i>deliberately</i> making the place inaccessible.... why would he?

Back a few weeks my IE was messed up and had to use Netscape. The site was a little quirky (like edit and quote were missing on some posts) but it did load up.

Yeah and we're working to exclude all macs while we're at it...

Come on. If there's a browser issue post the specs, what your os, your browser version and what the exact problem is and we'll look in to it.

I know we added a new javascript search box on the site and there may be issue with that and netscape that we aren't aware of.

complaining about Netscape 4.7 not working is like complaining that DVD's won't play in your 8-track player

Time to upgrade

It's probably just a netscape glitch, given how crappy their browser is now.

Where does he say he uses an old version of Netscape?

Anyway, I use Mozilla and it works fine.

Actually, it seems to be running better than the last time I used Netscape here.

Pages used to take forever to load and my CPU would be pegged at 100%. It still pegs for a moment, but the response is pretty snappy!

I never wanted too, but I finally gave up on Netscape. Using Netscape was slow on most sites (including this one) and this one board I liked to surf couldn't handle Netscape at all. Too bad really.

Same here, though it's been a couple years for me. I hate MS and used Netscape to spite them, but it just got too far behind IE.

Working great with Mozilla.

And, while IE may have surpassed the original Netscape browser, Mozilla has leapfrogged IE. You should give it a try, you may be very surprised. Tabbed browsing rocks!

I usually use IE, but this post is coming from Netscape 6.1 running on XP...

dough333, you need to post specifics if you have a problem...

I used netscape for a long time, then I did a windows update
after that netscape became very crash prone at random times
coincidence? I doubt it considering the only software change for over a month was the windows update
I still use it for my email and news groups though, and for some sites that always make IE go not responding
haven't tried dvdtalk with netscape in a while

I'm using Netscape communicator 4.75 since the "new and improved" look of version 6 is a bunch of crap.
