Are DVD reviewers using Blu Ray players or DVD players to review DVDs nowadays?

I'm assuming that a DVD will look better on a Blu Ray player, but are most DVD critics reviewing DVDs on their Blu Ray players now? If a DVD gets a Video score of 4 out of 5 stars on a Blu Ray player, does this technically mean it's like a 3.5 out of 5 stars on a DVD player?

Since the word on the street is that most DVDs will look better played on a Blu Ray player than on a DVD player, then how am I supposed to interpret DVD reviews nowadays? Is this even something to be concerned about?

I ask because I do plan to buy a multi-region Blu Ray player just to update my old multi-region DVD player, but I'm hoping to get satisfaction from watching my current collection of DVDs on a Blu Ray player so that I don't have to replace all my current favorite DVDs with Blu Ray.

For the people that have bought a Blu Ray player, has anyone been impressed with the video quality just from watching one of your DVDs on that in which you don't feel the need to upgrade to the Blu Ray version instantly?

For example, let's look at THE FALL. Is this an accurate reaction of the different video qualities?
THE FALL DVD: DVD player: video quality is very good.

I just found out I will be teaching a History vs. Hollywood class and wanted to see what you thought are some good movies that are mostly based on historical truth. They can also be fictionalized, but have groundings in some accuracy.

These movies need to cater to HS kids 10th - 12th grade. 'R' rated is ok, but not ultra-hard.

Also, want groups of similar themed movies (WW II, Government, WW I, Terrorism, etc.)

Some movies that I know have been shown or will be shown:
*Mississippi Burning
We Were Soldiers
The Last King of Scotland

Wow was this movie ever a piece of shit. I can see now why it wasn't released nationally. Brian's review nailed it. It truly is an Ashton Kutcher vanity project. But like the film, he is terrible in it. First, what's with the voice? Low and gravelly. Very irritating. Next, did he have to channel Richard Gere's every move and swagger from "American Gigolo"? Just made this even more laughable. If Kutcher had a career, this would have killed it. As is, it just make it and him more pathetic.

Tyler Foster's recent review of my film CREATING KARMA with its obvious nod to the hippies sixties farces of Peter sellers and the New York City angst of Mel Brooks and Woody Allen was seriously and inappropriately compared to the early amateur works of Troma in this review which Foster compares it to when its obvious these films bordered on soft porn as well and knowing the Troma works of that time (and all time) are often performed endearlingly but amateurishly by many who are non actors in his stable.

My film which features and stars veteran broadway and film actors with a real script and story was reviewed by Foster with a complete disregard for the story line bordering on the homophobic (Karma's father who turns gay leaves Karma with an issue accepting his partner) which Foster insisted on referring to as his "bandmate" rather than his partner or lover, as well his complete confusion over Borscht belt jewish humor in a comedy with the films of Mel Brooks out there down to the comedies of Ben Stiller etc. today is mind boggling and that the only films he can RELATE my film to are early Troma films is just a continuing indication of this reviewers complete ignorance in regard to comedy film, stating he sat through nine hours (my film is a very quick watch at 90 minutes) one has to wonder what other things he does in nine hours...we are the winner of two comedy feature film festivals including the only woman's comedy film festival in the world, spent two...

You are continuing to spew ignorance if you think Troma in the 80s invented putting on funny glasses for a celluloid comedy shtick. For those interested read the LA Splash rave review which is an accurate portrayal and understanding of the film and farce and we are opening theatrically on the east coast Nov 13-19 at the arthouse Bethel Cinema. Furthermore, it's pathetic this reviewer feels he needs to knock an indie film made without the studio system at a scary investment and cost in finances and years by one person, me...obviously he feels something about my film is important enough to now be putting me in reviews comparing my film to a troma collection...how silly, inappropriate and uneducated. Funny glasses were there when Groucho was on the screen Mr. Foster if I have to tell you what glasses those were as I pick up after two reviews you didn't even get THAT connection.

Brian Orndorf's "Stan Helsing" review.

Here (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/38716/stan-helsing/) is the review.

No Brian, I'm not starting this to argue with you. Someone would have to be a complete fool to go there. Instead I actually just wanted to say that I agree with this review 100%. If anything I'd say you weren't rough enough on this pile of manure and put way too much thought into being professional with what you wrote.

This is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my entire life. It is truly an abomination in film form. For those of you who haven't seen this one, don't, save yourself from going through with it. Just take a second and imagine the worst of the Friedberg/Seltzer pairing that Brian mentions at the end of the review, just think about any of those if you have seen them.

This movie is way beyond the horrible that is those pitiful excuses for movies. Just sitting here, I can't think of a worst movie that I've seen anytime lately than Stan Helsing.

I laughed my tail off when I saw this from EW:

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day. You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day. Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.
