Any yardbirds fans around? I always see them mentioned but just as a footnote to Clapton, Beck, and Page. They have been one of my favorite bands for a long time but seem to be overshadowed by their famous members and of course Led Zeppelin which has little to do with them anyway besides Page, the yardbirds name they dropped, and a couple of songs like dazed and confused and knowing I'm losing you (which became Tangerine)

Speaking of Knowing I'm Losing You it wasn't really out there until a few years ago. I had a few people tell me I was crazy it even existed.

I recently had a hankerin' to hear Mike's "Islands" again, but only have in on cassette. Silly me, I don't have a cassette player anymore.

Fast forward to now: I see it has been remastered and released on CD. Count me in! Unfortunately, I see that, due to Max Bacon's contractual agreements with Arista, it only includes the UK version of "Magic Touch" with a dude named Price on vocals. I find it weak compared to Bacon's version.

Does anyone know if the original US version was ever released via any digital format? I would love to get the rest of the album in its remastered state, but I would prefer the Bacon version of "Magic Touch".

Am I out of luck?

Thanks-

Yet another live concert release from McCartney and band documenting the legendary rocker's three-night christening of New York's Citi Field (where Shea Stadium once stood) in July 2009. There is a deluxe 4 disc edition available (which I didn't get) which includes an extra disc with footage from Macca's Letterman appearance at the Ed Sullivan Theater. I watched most of the DVD, and it is quite good. You would never know the guy is old enough to collect social security. The camera shots stay focused for the most part on the stage thankfully. The highlight for me was a live version of "Mrs. Vanderbilt" from his BotR days. There are a couple of tunes from the Firemen CD as well. The most irritating thing I noted was the video editor butchered "I'm Down" by cutting back and forth between this show's rendition and the Beatles performance at Shea in '65. Totally unnecessary, and beyond irritating! You can't really enjoy either performance. Fortunately, the CD does not suffer this indignity. The DVD comes with a DTS audio option. Amazon has this for $13.99. http://www.amazon.com/Good-Evening-York-City-Combo/dp/tracks/B002QH2NUA/ref=dp_tracks_all_1#disc_1 Highly recommended!
Can Hucknall even sing anything like Rod Stewart?

Faces eye Mick Hucknall, ex-Sex Pistol for tour
By Gary Graff Gary Graff
Tue Nov 17, 7:57 pm ET

DETROIT (Billboard) – The Faces appear ready to play live in 2010, with or without Rod Stewart.

After performing with guests at an October 25 show at London's Royal Albert Hall for the British Performing Rights Society's Music Members' Benevolent Fund, the Faces' other three surviving founder members -- guitarist Ron Wood, keyboardist Ian McLagan and drummer Kenney Jones -- are "seriously talking about touring" in the spring, McLagan tells Billboard.com.

"If we don't do it very soon, one of us is gonna check out," McLagan says. "I'm 64, for chrissakes! We've been waiting and waiting for Rod to say yes; now he's finally said no. He's busy doing other s--t. So we're gonna do it."

Stewart is planning to promote his latest album, "Soulbook," with his own touring in 2010. McLagan notes that "it would be much better to have (Stewart) with us" but says that he's "open either way. I just want to play."

The London charity show, at which former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman filled in for the late Ronnie Lane and guest vocalists included Simply Red's Mick Hucknall, Paul Carrack and Andy Fairweather-Low, provided a model for the kind of show the Faces could do.

"I think it's more exciting, actually, with different singers, different bass players, maybe some other guests, another guitarist or whatever," McLagan says. "(Saxophonist) Bobby Keys would probably sit in. It's more adventurous. It won't be the same old s--t."

Wyman, 73, who does not like to fly, is highly unlikely to be part of the tour. McLagan says his first choice on bass would be original Sex Pistols member Glenn Matlock, who the keyboardist says "started playing bass because of Ronnie Lane. He knows all his licks and really appreciates him as a bass player."

As for Wood's idea earlier in the year of using the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea -- who subsequently denied being part of a Faces reunion -- McLagan says that, "I like Flea. I don't necessarily think he's a good replacement for Ronnie, but if he wants to do it we should talk about it."

McLagan says he, Wood and Jones are also likely to ask Hucknall if he wants to be part of the project but expects to approach other singers as well. "There's plenty of things for people to sing in the set," he notes. "There's plenty of bass players. I think we can go in several different directions at once. The world's our oyster here; it will still be Ronnie, Kenney and me. We're just steaming right ahead."

I know a lot of folks here, like me, are digging Metric's latest album Fantasies. Well let me tell you, if you get a chance to go see them on their current tour, by all means do so! I just got back from seeing them on the second night of their U.S. tour, and it was one of the best shows I've seen all year. They played just about every tune I was hoping to hear off the new album, (in fact, nearly the whole thing), as well as classics from Live It Out and Old World Underground.... Just a great, great show! Opening act Band Of Skulls were pretty damn sweet, too.

Here's a link for the tour dates...

Ok, I'll admit it, I've never been to a live show.

But hey, I live in a small town, and the opportunity never really came up.

Anyway, I'm moving to minneapolis in a couple weeks and realized, I should start looking into this. I'm not sure how to go about it, though. How do you know what bands are coming, when, and to which venue? Is there some master list somewhere? Do people just have to constantly browse the ticketmaster site to see who is coming?

I'm mainly interested in metal shows, so I'm guessing those would be at smaller clubs, but what do I know?

SLAYER, MEGADETH and TESTAMENT will also take part in the rescheduled "Canadian Carnage" dates between February 16 and February 23. The trek, which was originally due to begin on November 8, was called off after SLAYER frontman Tom Araya was ordered to undergo an immediate surgical procedure for a back injury, thought to be related to his on-stage activity. SLAYER was also forced to postpone its previously announced European tour that had been set to kick off on November 18 in the U.K. Araya has been under the care of a specialist, and while he has already made substantial improvement, he is continuing on with doctor-prescribed treatment. The tour has been rescheduled to kick off on March 7 in Manchester, England.

It's good heavy gutairwork with David Chastain
but I really like this band because of the female singers that they use
first Leather Leone and on this cd, Kate French.
This is an older relelase, 1995. But it's just as good as anything in the metal world today.
I remember the debate about Kittie in another thread, although this an older release, this is just as good and even better I think because the singers actually sing.
