FORBIDDEN DOOR - Indonesian thriller from director Joko Anwar - DVD now available

FORBIDDEN DOOR aka PINTU TERLARANG (2009) is a new Indonesian thriller from director Joko Anwar (JANJI JONI, KALA: DEAD TIME). The English-friendly, Indonesian DVD was just released and can be purchased from U.S.-based e-tailer esindo.com.

I quite enjoyed Joko Anwar's previous film KALA: DEAD TIME (2007).

Frankly, the trailer is doing absolutely nothing for me. But, I'll probably give this movie a shot anyway.

Region Free Player? Momitsu, Oppo OR Pioneer Elite

Hi all -just curious what your feelings are towards these brands. I am in the market to replace my broken Philips (hated the remote anyway) and wouldn't mind getting a blu ray that plays everything, but it's not necessary as I already have a PS3.

I know folks swear by Oppo (I've never owned one) but I think both the styles of Oppo and Momitsu don't look very appealing...kinda on the chintzy side. I rarely hear people talk about the Pioneer multi-region capabilities tho and my system set up right now consists of all Pioneer Elite.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I noticed one of the customer reviews at Target said it played their PAL DVD, so I bit the bullet and ordered one. Then I saw the questions in the Momitsu thread about whether the Curtis Mathes 72 would be region-free like the CM 130 model, so I started thinking I may have wasted the price of shipping by ordering it. As it turns out, it's well worth the $99 I paid last week when it was on sale. I've played DVD-R, CD-R, NTSC DVD's region 0, 1, 2 and 3, PAL DVD's region 0, 2 and 4, Blu-Ray A and B. I figure if it plays all those, any region will work. I haven't upgraded the firmware or used any codes; I just put the discs in and they played. I've been attempting to find a reasonable priced copy of the following Chinese dvd:

I found it available at two Asian sites, http://www.ruten.com.tw/ which is part of Ebay in Taiwan. Also found this at http://www.amazon.cn/in China as well. The problem is, they're not English friendly.

Any other sources except Cine-Shop in France?

As far as I can tell this isn't a bootleg, but it seems a bit much to have a 24 dvd set selling for 169.00 yen. Of course I can't translate Mandarin/Chinese so what do I know!!

Can anybody please tell me about the quality of these two R2 releases (mainly video quality - I know the movies are good!) - I couldn't find any reviews. The second one is from Arrow Films, not Nouveaux Pictures (reviewed at dvdbeaver, now out of print).

The Polish PAL DVD of Wojna polsko-ruska is now available at http://www.artpopdvd.com/DVD/48920.aspx

This is the movie from Poland that I've been waiting for. Check out the cool trailers. This movie is based on a famous respectable book and a lot of the reviews are saying that it's not only a good adaptation of the book but even better than the book. I don't know anything much about the book but the movie sort of looks like a Bret Easton Ellis, Irvine Welsh, or Anthony Burgess film directed by Danny Boyle or David Fincher. I'm curious to read the book now too which is available in English...

The DVD is anamorphic, Polish Dolby Digital 5.1, and English subtitles.

I will post a DVD review to see if it's all just hype.

Hi,

does anyone know if the French blu-ray release of "Jean de florette" has English sub-titles. The info on amazon.fr is not clear.

I love this and "Manon des sources" but lent my DVDs to someone and never got them back. I'll not replace them if I can get them on Blu.
