Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Have we done foreign ripoffs (e.g. Seytan (1974) - Turkish version of The Exorcist) or unauthorized sequels (e.g. Patrick vive ancora (1980) - Italian "sequel" to Patrick) of popular films?

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Surprisingly we have never had a theme night for that most beloved trope - gore. People have suggested 'killed by XYZ' for the checklist; what about a theme night devoted to inventive kills and/or spectacularly bloody movies? Not sure if unique kills could cause spoiler problems by giving it away, but just gore would seem safe.

Some Lists of Inventive Kills [Possible Spoilers]:

Jawsploitation is the closest we've gotten.

Added the gore theme.

And yeah, the other's probably a bit too spoilery.

We already covered CL and HGL the year they died, and Hammer/Amicus alongside Ealing and Black & Blue.

Theme Voting starts tomorrow night (8/10).

Now's the time to share if you have any remaining theme suggestions.

Let me know if any were overlooked.
Reminder this kicks off tonight.

Also, 10 volunteering spots left.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Theme Nights Voting has started!

  • This is for both new and returning themes.

  • If you've already voted, no problem. Just remember there's been quite a few additions added recently, so please recheck the suggestions list on post 5 periodically. Occasionally new theme suggestions are added after voting starts.

  • There's no limit to how many times you can vote, or how many themes you can vote for. The only "rule" is one vote per theme. You can do it in this thread, or if you prefer privately - PM or via email. Makes no difference to me.

  • Also, keep in mind that some themes have unfinished or better lists/links coming such as the 15th Anniversary of The Rondo Hatton Awards, and will be cleaned up with hyperlinks later if chosen.

  • Certain themes will have to be combined with another theme or two if they don't provide enough titles.

  • And finally, don't hesitate to keep the theme suggestions coming if you have them, which brings me back to what was said earlier -- recheck the list periodically.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

New Themes I Vote For:
  • One-Word Titles
  • Fire Bad!
  • Small Town Horrors
  • Horror Parties
  • I Spit on Your Garage
  • Death By Drowning
  • Skulls / No Bones About It (I think these would go well together, another possible name even though I love No Bones About It is maybe Skulls & Bones? Some bonus history on the secret society here that has be accused of possessing stolen skulls ooh spooky lol : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skull_and_Bones)
  • Writers
  • Prison Horrors
  • Sick Games + Takes Place In One Room (these have quite a few crossovers maybe put them on same night?)
  • R.I.P. Fangoria, 2 (1979 - 2016) / Video Watchdog (1990 - 2016)
  • IMDB Lowest Rated Horrors
  • IMDB Highest Rated Horrors
  • The 1950's
  • Pregnancy Horror

Return Themes I Vote For (Aside From The Main Stays):
  • Home Invasion - used once in 2013
  • Meta - used once in 2012

Which One Returns?
C) Both (Doesn't matter to me which one is chosen. I also definitely support the Hispanic Suggestion.)

1980's Video Companies Spotlight Choice?
A) Media Home Entertainment

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Man, the password reset function sucks the biggest d*&k. Been trying for months to reset the password, but I never get the second email with the new password. Had to register for a new account to try and get this resolved. I have a few suggestions for themes that I was trying to get out last night....

Food Horrors like Grapes of Death, etc
Nuns! Who hasn't seen a good nun horror flick?

Cant remember the rest...

I see that Goblin is doing another tour this year. How about the band's music as a theme?

I also had Darkness on my list, but I'm pretty sure we've done that one.

There's no contact me link unless you're signed in, and I wasn't able to login, so I'm not entirely sure how I ever would have contacted anyone to let them know there was a problem....

I'm not getting a second account for nefarious reasons, as this is my third post, and the other 2 are just above.

Just trying to help. In the past people have been banned for less. You can contact admins now at least; I'd try to get it sorted out to be safe.

Sorry Trevor, Didn't mean to come across in that way. I'm a little frustrated with the password reset function. Didn't mean to sound too whiny. I sent a request via the contact me button at the bottom of the page, and also PM'd a mod directly. We'll see.

No worries Willie! I know how frustrating this site can be. Some of us have days of constant ad re-redirects making the forum completely unusable.

I think I remember you from past challenges, MLF was it?

And yes, I agree and trust that an admin will help you out getting things sorted out. Should be a completely understandable new account, I just don't fully trust IB anymore.

Oh, forgot to mention to let me know if any suggestions were overlooked. Everything was a bit rushed at the last-minute there. I looked at the 2016 thread and realized we were only one day ahead of last year's pace, and didn't wanna defeat the point of starting this one early.

I need to watch more horror and stop reserving everything for the challenge.

I don't know how much support they have, but I suggested a gun theme, and there was also a 1950s suggestion.
