Safe Lists
The following lists are Automatic Safe lists. They are not definitive and there might be exceptions therein, especially concerning Distributors. Generally, the presence of those on the lists in an actual creative capacity (that is, more than just a cameo or bit part. For instance, Bruce Campbell appearing in Spider-Man does not make Spider-Man safe) is enough to make a film safe. Got more? Post them and I'll update the list. Obviously, films not including these participants are safe, too. Update: I added several new names to the actors list. Some of these actors appeared in actual big budget Hollywood fare, but most of their career was in B-Movies, then obviously discard the Big Hollywood movies and just watch the B's (For example, William Shatner. Ignore Star Trek movies but anything else is fair game. Or Patrick Swazye. Ghost is probably not right, but most of his other films were B-Movies).

Re: 8th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation Challenge April 1-April 30, 2017

I thought one of their first releases was a double feature of K. Gordon Murray kiddie movies that quickly went out of print because of some legal problem, but I might have dreamed that up and really been thinking of the Barry Mahon double feature The Wonderful Land Of Oz & Jack And The Beanstalk (which was high on my want list until I watched the Oz movie on Youtube a week or so back - I still want to see the other one, but I don't feel a need to own them). I'd have to find the old spreadsheet I have to say which I missed I'd most like to have now (because I'm sure I've forgotten some), but right now it's When Women Played Ding Dong / 50,000 B.C. (Before Clothing) (which had completely slipped my mind until a couple weeks back when I stumbled across the title and immediately remembered it as an SWV DVD). I saw it on Ebay and Amazon for ~$48. I don't need it that bad (especially since it'd be a blind buy ).

you can watch Psycho Cop on youtube, but i can't figure why Vinegar S released Psycho Cop Returns and not the original. It doesn't appear that the first film has a release.

thanks. Blu Rita is definitely more than just a "soft core" porn film. Franco creates a futuristic spy world that is fascinating to look at.

I thought about watching Grease 2 and Green Lantern but neither makes it below the RT 20% threshold.

But the Heigl-Kutcher Killers is at 11%! Which is appropriate because it's pretty terrible.

I think we were allowing a bit of a fudge for Suicide Squad and BM v S, so Green Lantern's 26% might be ok. I should raise the threshold to a hard 30%.

Grease 2 would have fallen under bad sequels to well regarded films but I just dropped that category. It might slip in under its reputation. Wikipedia says it was nominated for a Stinkers Bad Movie Awards for Worst Picture for 1982.

It's 4/20. Good day for stoner films or Nazisploitation.

I'm watching Grease 2 anyway because I rented it (I'm lucky enough to OWN Green Lantern) so I'll wildcard it. It uses the same setting as the original, and it has similar characters who break into song, but it's just all so inferior.

I was curious about Judy Garland's daughter, Lorna Luft, so I looked up her character name in advance, but the very first time I saw her, she spoke in a voice that uncannily reminded me of Garland.

I don't remember that myself, but it sounds like a bad idea for this challenge.

both the mattei zombie films are bad but so much fun. people sometimes casually throw around the term "rip off" , but Zombies: the beginning is literally a shot for shot rip off of Aliens with zombies substituted for the aliens. it really has to be seen to be believed

I own Green Lantern too, and have yet to watch it. Just never got around to it. Might get it in this month. I plan to get as many movies in as I can this last week. Might be able to make 50 at least, if I work at it.

Watching Congo right now, on Showtime On Demand. It's a first time view, with a RT rating of 23%, so it's a bad movie, but so far, I'm enjoying it. It might be because I have a soft spot for gorillas though. I've been working my way through my Toho movies too. Started on my Toho Triple Feature last night, with The H-Man. The lead detective looked very familiar to me, and I'm sure I've seen him in another Godzilla movie, but I couldn't place him off the top of my head.

I really should get separate cases for those discs, as when I looked at the disc of Mothra, there was a big scratch on it. I hope the toothpaste I used to get the scratch out worked, but if not, to be on the safe side, I bought that particular movie, on Google Play.

Monogram is on the safe list, but it's successor Allied Artists is not. Philosophically, should it be? They did make a few "A list" pictures (as did Republic), but in their 50's heyday, they made a lot of drive-in classics. Should Allied Artists pictures count as Monogram on the checklist?

No, it was just ones that were ~25% on Rotten Tomatoes or financial bomb. I'm not going to quibble over a couple points + or -, but they have to otherwise qualify for the challenge. July is the Sci Fi/Fantasy challenge, which allows in all superhero movies.

I just finished the next movie in the Icons Of Toho collection, Battle In Outer Space. All of the Toho greats were involved in it. It was directed by Ishiro Honda. The music was done by Akira Ifukube, and the special effects were done by Eiji Tsuburuya. The movie shows it too.

Vudu's free (with limited adverts) offerings include Samurai Cop 2.

Having not seen SC, I realise that some of the finer nuances may have fallen through the cracks. However... um... I'm really glad I watched it, but my goodness it made very little sense!

"Joe Marshall", the Samurai Cop was referred to as being Italian.
The credits have a note under 'Songs' that begins "co-written by Swedish..."
Several of the 'actors' can't. At all. And several don't even seem to try.
The plot is... haphazard.
At least one character seems to ad-lib most of his dialogue, but the main culprit doesn't really seem to have been given any guidance. Or English coaching... consider the randomly-punctuated "No-one can stop me! But I! Can stop myself! ...but I will not stop myself!, Joe."
At several points, the whole film pauses for scenes either from the first film, or from a completely different one. Or both.
Several characters wander in, utter a non-sequitur and then vanish. Or make a terrible joke(?) that doesn't make sense in - or out - of context.

It's brilliant. In no real sense, but... yes. Very enjoyable. (Definitely a Troll 2/MST3K kind of Great.)

Can't quite tell if Ganjasaurus Rex is the best worst movie or the just the worst movie ever. Either way, it's a captivating watch.

Off to watch Desperate Living (FTV). Happy birthday, John Waters.

When I bought that set the first thing I did was move two of the three discs to separate jewel cases so they wouldn't scratch each other on the spindle in the original case.

I repurposed a 3 disc case I picked up at BL that originally contained S10 of Three and a Half Men. Some time back they had a huge over abundance of them they clearanced at $1.50 each. During a 20% off event I purchased a few for just that reason.

Just in time for the end of the challenge, Fifty Shades Darker is now available for digital purchase, with its 9% RT rating.
