Safe Lists
The following lists are Automatic Safe lists. They are not definitive and there might be exceptions therein, especially concerning Distributors. Generally, the presence of those on the lists in an actual creative capacity (that is, more than just a cameo or bit part. For instance, Bruce Campbell appearing in Spider-Man does not make Spider-Man safe) is enough to make a film safe. Got more? Post them and I'll update the list. Obviously, films not including these participants are safe, too. Update: I added several new names to the actors list. Some of these actors appeared in actual big budget Hollywood fare, but most of their career was in B-Movies, then obviously discard the Big Hollywood movies and just watch the B's (For example, William Shatner. Ignore Star Trek movies but anything else is fair game. Or Patrick Swazye. Ghost is probably not right, but most of his other films were B-Movies).

Automatic Safe list:

Found a good Roku channel. Grindhouse Grit. There's also a subscription version for $2 a month without commercials. Might be worth it for a month.

Gah! I'm missing out on all this Roku stuff. It appears that youtube will be my main savior for this challenge!

Just saw on the Vinegar Syndrome page that Radley Metzger died. I'm not really familiar with his work beyond The Flesh Eaters and being called the highbrow Russ Meyer, so tonight sounds good to break out my unopened Blu's of Camille 2000 and The Lickerish Quartet.

I always preferred Joe Sarno over Metzger (I discovered them at the same time) RIP, nonetheless
The Image is Metzger's masterpiece, imo.

We're talking about things like a few years ago when we had 2 Lambada movies, or the Disco movies of the late 70s early 80s, or the Leif Garrett movie Skateboard, and so on. I'd even consider 50 Shades of Gray as Fadsploitation, since it was such a pop culture female wank phenomenon. Harry Potter was also a bigger than books phenomenon, too, but I don't count it since it's just a fantasy story. 50 Shades is intrinsically exploitative as a subject.
Ah... right. Hazy, but not as hazy as I was thinking.

Anything you watch at a actual drive-in counts. So... just find it playing in a drive-in somewhere and you're home free... no weeks of vitriol or rule bending needed.

Other Fadsploitation might be CB radio/trucker films of the 70s and maybe even movies based upon popular songs of the day. Convoy, Ode to Billy Joe, Harper Valley PTA, and so on. It HAS to be actually based on the song, not just named after a song, like Pretty Woman.

Don't feel too bad, lots of what I've seen on the Roku channels I watch is also on YouTube. If they weren't, I wouldn't have been able to grab a bunch of screencaps of scenes with comic books.

The biggest benefits of the streaming channels is not having to pick what I'm going to watch next, and opening myself up to watching stuff I wouldn't be likely to, or wouldn't know to, search for.

I had forgotten to change up the top of my Netflix queue to be challenge appropriate, so I ended up getting Elle in the mail yesterday. When I watched it today, not expecting to put it on my list, it did seem to fit in as a sort of exploitation. I am tentatively marking it as a wildcard, but will remove it if that is off base. What do other people who saw it think?

It's tangential enough to wild card it.

Today, I watched a Sho Kosugi double feature: Pray for Death (1985) and Rage of Honor (1987). Last year, a local media store went out of business, and I picked up a lot of cheap blind buys, including these two gems. The former features Kosugi as a secret ninja businessman who moves to the United States with his family. They are brutalized by local mobsters, and Kosugi turns into a killing machine. It's nonsensical and amazing. The later has Kosugi quitting his law enforcement job to seek revenge against the drug baron who killed his partner. It's equally nonsensical and throws in a helicopter and restless natives to boot! Both are highly recommended!

I have three Sho Kosugi movies, the Enter The Ninja trilogy. So far only seen the first one, but enjoyed it. Might watch the other two this month too.

The Ten Commandments as religious exploitation?

Challenge update: my daughter was great this morning during Big Top Pee Wee but Mr. Deathman is failing to hold her interest.

Re: 8th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation Challenge April 1-April 30, 2017

Wanted to kick off the challenge with some tributes to some recently deceased favorites, so I started with Thomas Milian in RUN,MAN,RUN (1968), which I hadn't seen before and really liked.

My second film was a tribute to Christine Kaufmann, who didn't make a lot of drive-in movies but I've always had a thing about. I found a decent widescreen print on YouTube, and watched it for the first time sine I had seen it in a theater as a kid. I didn't realize I'd be hitting "Checklist Paydirt". Sword and Sandal, Steve Reeves, Sergio Leone (who replaced the credited director on the first day of shooting), Sergio Corbucci (2nd Unit Director) and Mario Bava. The film holds up well. Christine was only 14 (!) when she played the role. And according to IMDB, this film introduced Leone and Corbucci to the Spanish plains that became the setting for many spaghetti westerns.

Re: 8th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation Challenge April 1-April 30, 2017

Wish me luck, guys! I plan on giving this set another try:

I last watched this set a couple challenges ago (Mostly to check out Blue Money--Which I did end up liking) But Noon Sunday and Yellow Hair were among the worst movies I've ever sat through. I'm thinking of doing either Night Club or Seperate Ways tonight.

Btw, Roller Blade (1986) was....Something else. As I mentioned in this list-thread, this has Doris Wishman's stamp of approval.

That's a tough one. Is any film exploitative just because it is religious or does it have to have some exploitative element? Samson and Delilah is kind of a big sex drama using the Bible as a excuse. Do we get that with 10 C? It being one of the biggest box office films of all time, we need to be a big wary. Mel Gibson's Passion was a huge box office success, but it's also the biggest torture porn film of all time. I'm not sure if I see that in 10 C.

This is the first time in four or five years without any unwatched Andy Sidaris flicks after finishing off Girls, Guns and G-Strings last challenge. Just caught Mission: Killfast from Ted V. Mikels that had a similar vibe (minus the Playboy Playmates), but it just wasn't the same.

Death Force, on the other hand, just shot straight into my top 10 Blaxploitation list. So underrated.

My year of Prime ended today, and I didn't have the $100 to renew it, so went down to the Prime Video at $8.99. At least I have access to movies still.

Night Club ended up being my pick last night. Terrible movie...But not a terrible experience! (If that makes any sense) I've got about 3 (First-time viewings) left to go in that set. I'll complete it this month.

Oh, and CaligulaGod, I'm really appreciating the subtractions you did to the checklist this year. It's really making this challenge (Already) fly by fast for me!

Glad to hear. I feel it's more inline with my vision for this challenge while still allowing the wider B-Movie aspect.
