Man, I haven't watched that in years, back when I was early in my Fred and Ginger-watching period. I think it was mostly of interest to see her in a very different role. I still have fond memories of getting her autograph when she was on her book tour.

If anyone wants some cheap counting numbers, Amazon digital has the Pixar Shorts vol. 1 and Walt Disney Studio Shorts collections for $2.99 each.

Got to the Animated Shorts last night.

While "Piper" is not included, the other 4 are...and they are all quite good! Watched "Piper" off of the "Finding Dory" Blu...

Such different animation styles and engaging stories. Then, of course, they had to fill the program with 35 mins of other animation, 5 other unrelated shorts, to round out the program.

Looking forward to the Live Action shorts!

This year marks the most I've ever seen from one year! After this challenge, I will have seen 44 of the 47 nominated features and all but one of the documentary shorts...not bad!

I'm not at 100 yet but I have my finger's crossed that I'll get there.

So I'm watching The Rock for the first time in a few years. I just noticed how similar the score of this film is to Pirates of the Caribbean. Hans Zimmer ripped himself off!

I wonder where the line lies... University Challenge (and music lessons) taught me rhat you can recognise which composer wrote a piece of classical music just by listening to it. Logically, there must be a thematic resonance/repeated sequences/something for that to be true - and film composers seem to be favoured for certain types of film, so surely it's curious if scores DON'T sound similar...!

That said, never seen The Rock so it may be more blatant. But I do get sections of Star Wars and Superman confused because there's a seque that seems identical in both.

Re: The 11th Annual Academy Award Challenge (January 24, 2017 - February 26, 2017)

I expect films within a franchise to have similar music but it was jarring to hear a musical cue that I associate with Pirates show up, for lack of a better phrase, in Bay's film. Neither film was nominated for their Score so I'm not accusing Zimmer of any malfeasance, maybe that's simply his musical calling card. Maybe I'll watch one of his other films tomorrow and see if it shows up again. Actually, now that I think about it, I wonder if that music cue is something Zimmer uses on all the Bruckheimer films (since that is what the two films have in common).

Re: The 11th Annual Academy Award Challenge (January 24, 2017 - February 26, 2017)

I may watch one or two more titles tomorrow, but I think I finished tonight, with a great movie on my DVR, I recorded off of TCM, Summer Of '42. I had never seen it before, so it was also a first time view. I finished with 82 titles watched, and about 29 of which were first time views. Would have liked to have hit 100, but it just wasn't in the cards. I'm happy with my total though, and I had a lot of fun.

And lisa, congrats on hitting 100. , and thanks for running a great Challenge.

It's Awards Show time and the last day of our challenge.

Anyone want to post their predictions for tonight's winners?

I meant to get to a few more things this past week, but between spending the past 2 Saturdays in a movie theater for the best picture showcase and watching the 7 1/2 hour OJ documentary (which was completely worth it) didn't have the time.

Re: The 11th Annual Academy Award Challenge (January 24, 2017 - February 26, 2017)

Life was busy this month so for the first time in awhile, I didn't participate in this challenge much at all. I did watch the Oscars tonight and was fairly bored for most of it. I'm not sure what it is, but the hosts lately have been fairly blah.

Then the mix-up at the end. You could tell that Beatty was having trouble with something. At least La La Land people were gracious in handing over the Oscars-I'm not so sure I would have been able to be that nice. I'm thinking someone is really going to be chewed out/fired over that mistake!

For once, I had no interest in watching the Oscars. Maybe it was just because of the host, so I took a nap this evening. I was right in what I said last night, in that I didn't have much time for movie watching today, so I did finish my Challenge last night. At least I ended on a high note with a great movie.

Well I woke up this morning to quite the stir regarding the end of the Oscar ceremony. Congrats to all the winners and apologies to whoever's head is going to role after that Best Picture mishap.

Thanks to everyone that participated in this challenge. I hope everyone enjoyed the films they watched. Now I'm kicking myself for not re-watching the Oscar-winning film Suicide Squad!

I really enjoyed the entirety of the show last night. The bizarre ending was just the capper to make sure I'll always remember it.

I'm with Trevor, I really enjoyed the show last night. Kimmel wasn't Steve Martin or Jon Stewart, who are my favorite hosts, but I thought he did a very good job. And that twist ending...

Big thanks to lisadoris for running a fun challenge this year.

Re: The 11th Annual Academy Award Challenge (January 24, 2017 - February 26, 2017)

Before the snafu that ended the ceremony I was perfect on my prediction of the top eight categories. Moonlight was my "What Should Win" for Best Picture.

With that, another year of my favorite challenge ends. Thanks as always to the organizers. Salute to lisadoris for that landmark. Wow. Looking forward to the next one. Time to catch up on movies I've missed like John Wick: Chapter 2, Get Out, The LEGO Batman Movie, and Logan.

Re: The 11th Annual Academy Award Challenge (January 24, 2017 - February 26, 2017)

A very enjoyable month... filmwise. And a welcome distraction from miserable reality.

Lots of great films - many new (to me), most old (thanks, TCM). The Big Short was much more enjoyable than it should have been; The Lobster lived up to my expectations; next up: Q-Z and Suicide Squad for March!

Re: The 11th Annual Academy Award Challenge (January 24, 2017 - February 26, 2017)

I had a great time this month too, and this is definitely now in my top 3 for challenges, so thanks to lisadoris for hosting!

I concentrated on this year's nominees and ended up only not seeing 3 winners... the documentary short, the foreign language film and Fantastic Beasts. I saw 39 nominees for 2017, 26 of them during the challenge.

I too now have a backlog of stuff I want to watch... the previously mentioned Lego Batman, Get Out, A Cure For Wellness at the theatres, and a BUNCH of stuff I bought this month as Canada's great music/movie retailer, HMV, is going out of business.

See you all back here next year!
