Sorry--I did see Fantastic Beasts and thought it was fine, but underwhelming overall. The effects were better than the story. Disclaimer that I'm much more familiar with the Potter films than books.

I didn't read the comics, and I thought the movie was just OK. I liked Margot Robbie and Will Smith--and I guess the cast overall was good.

I actually watched two comic book movies in a row this morning. I followed up Suicide Squad with a true classic of the genre, Superman: The Movie. While George Reeves is the best Superman in my mind all around, when it comes to the movies, no one can beat the late, great Christopher Reeve. Even after his riding accident, he never stopped fighting. Now that is a real superhero.

I'm with you. I liked it too. And the villain was cool.

watched the five nominees for Best Documentary Shorts and I have to say I liked 'The White Helmets' the most, but I'm thinking 'Joe's Violin' will take the award.

Cute, witty, poignant and a really, really well-done Message Film. I do not like Will Ferrell. Will Ferrell was excellent in the LEGO Movie. And the little asides - Taco Tuesday, Where Are My Pants? and Everything is Awesome - were satirical, realistic, silly and great. Fantastic film.

Finally slogged through "Toni Erdmann" last night, it's quite good, but goes on forever....2 hours and 42 mins for a "comedy"!

Looks like "Fences" will be available for purchase on iTunes on 2/24 before the ceremony.

And, I pre-ordered the Live Action and Animated Shorts on iTunes. The Animated program won't contain "Piper", but the Live Action program is complete. Might be a pricing error, so you might want to jump on the Live Action program. It was $14.99 pre-order for Animated, but only $2.99 for the Live Action!

That gave me the inspiration to check to see what was available on Amazon, and I found the 2016 Live Action Short Collection available to watch on their Starz channel. That leads me to believe that if anyone has access to the Starz Roku channel , either through subscribing, or through a participating provider, I would think that the collection would be on there as well.

Completed the checklist yesterday after my re-watch of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. We're getting to the final leg of the challenge!

Come talk to me once you've slogged your way through the 7hr 47min of OJ: Made in America! LOL It's not a comedy, but there are some clips of Naked Gun

Fortunately Piper is included on my copy of Finding Dory (maybe in 3D?).

Re: The 11th Annual Academy Award Challenge (January 24, 2017 - February 26, 2017)

Over the last two nights I've watched Hell or High Water which was very good, but then I'd watch Jeff Bridges paint a fence, and 13th. The latter probably is more interesting for Americans but there's definitely some enlightening information about the big business of the US penal system and some background on how the American view that black people are inherently criminal developed (certainly not a view held by all, but seems pretty prominent in this film).

I took advantage of Dish Network's Cinemax free preview to watch a very good first time view this morning, American Gangster. Denzel Washington was a very good choice for Harlem crime lord, Frank Lucas, plus Ruby Dee is wonderful in anything she does.

Recently, I watched The Lobster which would be the weirdest thing I've watched for the upcoming if it weren't for Elle. It was compelling and disturbing, definitely worth a watch. The film sets up a dystonia in which people must be paired with a compatible spouse.

I also watched Allied. It was a movie. I watched it.

Can't find it... anyone have a direct link, or has it been taken down?

https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/20...n/id1203919636 or search for "Oscar Nominated" in the store.

The listing for the Live Action Shorts is gone...hope they honor their mistake!

Re: The 11th Annual Academy Award Challenge (January 24, 2017 - February 26, 2017)

I woke up early this morning, and felt like starting right in on the Challenge, so I started with a good documentary, called Journey Into Medicine, on YouTube. It chronicled one man's journey through medical school and his path to becoming a full fledged doctor.

I thought the 'animated' nominees showcase this year was rather weak - outside of course 'Piper'.

It's still listed at $2.99 in Canada, but gone in USA store. It's still in my preorder list, but that doesn't mean much since it's still listed here. If you've ordered it in the USA, see if it is still on your preorder list.

Wow, there's a mind-bending doubleheader for you!

I felt very similar about Allied. It was beautiful to watch, and the Tarantino-esque beginning was okay but not a lot of substance there. Predictable and uneventful.

I always thought that the Canadian Netflix was just a heavily filtered version of the US list. I never imagined we would have content (especially new releases) that you didn't.

After taking a few days off, I have a "playlist" of movies to watch:
Life Animated, Trolls, Star Trek Beyond, Born Yesterday,
The Lobster, American Beauty, 8 Mile
(re-watches)

Where should I start?
