I watched the local NBC affiliate's annual show on Christmas celebrations at on Embassy Row, like the Danish ambassador's family making Danish butter cookies and the Italian embassy's ornate Nativity scene.

I also fired up Trading Places--the theme of economic disparity is even more relevant today than 30 years ago.

Just watched Die Hard and am pretty close to done. If I can take one classic off the unwatched pile, I'll be very satisfied.

Yep, your comments were definitely one of the reasons I decided to shed my biases and watch it. I'm not a fan of worshipping original material at the altar, but at the same time I don't see a need for redoing something just to redo it. The music changes threw me off a bit, but ultimately they worked and I enjoyed them, though I'm not buying the recording to listen to them.

When I realized I was rewatching much of the material from last year's challenge, I watched this for the first time in years. Some of it is dated, but I still enjoyed it.

Its the last few days of the challenge, is everyone done watching? I added a New Years Boy Meets World episode and The Hateful Eight to my list. Can the results just be posted here in a week instead of a results thread next fall?

I plan to watch the Rose Parade, and I might watch a couple Christmas episodes I forgot I had on my DVR. Just finished the Christmas episode of Make Room for Daddy.

I've continued strong all month with lots of Christmas shows and Hallmark Channel smaltz. Being sick and in bed a lot helped. I stopped counting halfway through though. Saw I was a bit ahead of Dave and didn't want another 'win' on my resume.

Yesterday was my near annual viewing of Rudolph's Shiny New Year, love the mythos Rankin and Bass created around Christmas with all the ancillary players. Maybe my memory is just bad (well, it definitely is), but I can never remember which special has which characters until I actually watch it.

Jen and I watched a new-to-us film last night, leading up to the ball drop, the ensemble romantic comedy New Year's Eve. We were pleasantly surprised by it, and I can see us watching it every other year or so.

I watched up to the 30th. I was invited to a NYE bash/weekend and just got home this evening so ended the challenge with 77 watches. I think it was one of my more prolific challenges, so I'm pretty pleased with my list! Thanks for hosting, The Monkees!

I enjoyed it a lot as well - took a much more relaxed approach than last year, and wound up watching a LOT of TCM; much of which counted! Which was nice.

And now, thoroughly enjoying BOSCH on Amazon, and wouldn't you know it: set during Christmastime and New Year. Something to remember for next year, maybe...

Also, I completely forgot to watch the Star Wars Special and Naughty or Nice... but as both are TV fare, may yet get to them.

Is there a due date for our lists?

As usual, I have entered nothing. I took pictures on my phone of the info screen or the DVD/Blu-ray case when I DID watch something challenge related. Its just a matter typing it all in, which I never seem to have time to do.

I'm not the host and don't want to step on their toes, but I'd say there isn't a due date as there doesn't seem to be prizes. There does seem to be a listing from year to year on who had the most watches though, so if you'd want to be included in that, I'd fill in your list. Hope that helps.

If people don't mind Used DVDs, I can probably put together some prizes. I've been clearing out my DVDs since I've transferred most of my collection to Vudu. Let me know if you guys are interested, and I'll try to round up some Christmas DVDs.

I for one don't have a problem with used DVD's.

I don't mind either, but maybe for next year? Seems like this thread has pretty much died down now...

Yay! I finally completed my list. I was tempted to abandon it like in years past, but I got a second wind. I also like looking at my past lists to figure out future viewing... and if I don't have a list...

With Halloween on Monday, I have started thinking of the holiday challenge with this thread bump. I don't even think last year's winner was annouced, but wondering when this year's thread will get started.

Once again, requesting that we start the Friday before Thanksgiving (as opposed to the Monday before), so we have time to get some Thanksgiving fare in.

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 11th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/21 - 1/1)

I'm starting my holiday challenge this weekend. The two Hallmark Channel marathons start tonight at 10pm. And this year's first new Hallmark movie is tomorrow night at 8pm.

I don't want to fill-up my DVR waiting for the challenge to officially start. So I'm just gonna start early.

I've already seen ads on TV last weekend for Christmas. Few more years and maybe we can start seeing them in September.

Is there a thread yet for this year's Challenge?

No not yet, I messaged The Monkees to see if he was still going to start the thread since he always runs the challenge.

I keep waiting for that "back corner of Christmas merchandise" at stores that stays up year 'round. I know it's coming - it's just a matter of when. The WM stores here converted their indoor garden center areas to Christmas merchandise in Mid-September.

If I don't here from The Monkees in the next few days I'll message one of the moderators here, I don't think he would have dissappeared.
