Don't forget the Angela Mao box set with six films including BROKEN OATH (pictured here) and WHEN TAEKWONDO STRIKES.

And with Sammo Hung from a different film (I forget which one, I think THE TOURNAMENT, also in that set):

And here's a pic I took of her and Sammo at an event in New York almost five years go:

Thanks for sharing the picture Ash! She looks better now than she did when she was younger.

None of the movies on the set are OAR and the only audio option is the risible English dub.

You'd be better off with the set Ash mentions above, The Angela Mao Ying Collection (WHEN TAEKWONDO STRIKES (1973) THE TOURNAMENT (1974) STONER (1974) THE HIMALAYAN (1976) A QUEEN S RANSOM (1976) BROKEN OATH (1977) ) or Lady Whirlwind / Hapkido (also Angela Mao) or Martial Arts Movie Marathon (The Skyhawk, The Manchu Boxer, The Dragon Tamers & The Association) or Martial Arts Movie Marathon, Vol. 2 (The Fate Of Lee Khan, Shaolin Boxers, The Young Dragons, The Shaolin Plot), all from Shout! Factory and available from various online retailers.

All the movies are OAR and give you sub/dub options. Any of these sets is the way to go. Be nice if Shout! Factory would release a wu xia set.

To whet my appetite for the challenge, I've began watching Dogfights. I just finished the first episode about MiG Alley.

Wow, I didn't know about those Marathon sets. The big news here is THE FATE OF LEE KHAN, by King Hu (A TOUCH OF ZEN). It's a good film, but I've only seen it on a full-screen VHS copy with the subs. cut off on the sides. Not familiar with the other titles in that set, although I probably have them under other names. On the first Marathon set, I don't think I've seen any of those. THE ASSOCIATION is a Mao title missing from my collection. I hope those are on Amazon.

P.S. And Angela Mao is in FATE OF LEE KHAN also, as one of a quartet of battling waitresses at a desert inn.

Since I'm not much a fan of many Oscar Winning films I've started bypassing that one and watch what I want for the entire month of February. I still read the thread, watch the occasional winner (usually by accident), and throw my $0.02 out on occasion but don't maintain a list. It's a *very* nice break.

It pretty much mirrors the dead period in sports.

I don't have anything in particular to start with tonight. Probably just browse the Dish guide, as Roku will be out, due to my downloading a game on Steam.

Re: 4th Annual DVDTalk Action/Adventure/Crime/Mystery Discussion Thread

With the death of Leonad Nimoy I started S1 of Star Trek: TOS last night. It's been several years since I watched any of that series and I'd forgotten just how much I like it. It's interesting to see, again, how the earlier episodes still have the actors finding their way with their characters, especially Nimoy. Over the first half-dozen or so episodes the character of Mr. Spock changes slightly in mannerism and speach patterns.

I enjoyed seeing, again, those first 4 episodes so much I plan to complete S1 and then decide if I want to continue with the other 2 seasons. I'm guessing I will as it's one of my Top 10 Favorite Shows (perennially in the #1 spot). With those it's hard for me to stop once I start.

What about shows on tv that start before sunset, but end after? I ask because when I checked my phone today, I saw sunset for me is an odd time, 6:07.

You can start a 4 hour movie at 1407 then. As long as it ends at least one second after sunset, it counts.

That's a interesting ruling. I've always interpreted it as you can't *start* until sunset - this presents a new wrinkle...

Sunset in these parts start at 6:29. So my evening will begin with an aperitif, Danger 5 series 2, Merry Christmas Colonel (2015), followed by an entree, Queen of Fist (Kung Fu Ma Ma) (1973), and a second helping, Fun and Fury (1992). If I've got room left, dessert will be a Bravest Warrior episode.

One of the reasons it was suggested not to start the Oscar challenge a week early, and actually have it run a week after the oscars.

Yeah, even without this gap, I think it'd be a good idea to have that Challenge last at least a few days after the Oscars.

Back on topic, I probably won't start my viewings tonight, as I'm in the middle of a couple comics I'd rather finish, but I will fit in a bunch of Nimoy next month. llap

Those who are so inclined may want to include the serial Zombies of the Stratosphere (1952) in which Nimoy made his film debut.

I've spent the challenge break having conversations with family members. They're nice people.
