Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 10th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt
Was only able to work out one movie on Halloween night, Trick 'r Treat, which was a great movie to end the challenge. Wish I could have made it work out to watch more, and also wish I had more time to post on here, but there's always next year. In the meantime, it was great to spend the month with you guys. It's always a highlight and I'm excited to do it again with you next year!
Thanks Chad for putting on another great time!
Now, to finish my list and catch up on this thread...

I had Halloween 1, 2 & 3 all ready to watch on Halloween, but after watching the first one I put the second one in and I could not keep my eyes open - 2 is relentlessly boring. I rewound back to the last thing I remembered a couple of times but eventually woke up with it over and gave up on it so I didn't count it.

You probably mentioned it multiple times already Chad, but what stats do you want us to have done in our lists this year?

What we need is a big red stamp that says LIST COMPLETE to go across the middle of our list.

Hit the quarter-hundred mark for the first time so I'm pleased.
Watched a lot of the Friday the 13th, Scream, Texas Chainsaw, and Wrong Turn franchises, got in some goof first-time views like Zombieland, The Purge, and The Haunting, and am caught up with The Walking Dead. Successful challenge for me.

Okay, back after taking my usual day off to clear my head before the tabulation tackling...
So I'll be posting all the deadlines and whatever else needs taking care of along with the trivia question winnerlater tonight Monday. In the meantime, please cast your vote for BEST LIST if you haven't already because there's not many of those at the moment.
And yes, there's still time for trivia question 4 entries; I'll take 'em right up until the winner's announced.
Just the usual: first time views, formats viewed, decades watched, and your personal goal. And putting how many challenges you participated in or if you're a first timer helps to speed things along.
And also doing that for any completed optional lists would really help since I have a tighter deadline to meet this year.

Hmmm. For whatever reason, no blus this year.

This is the first time I've ever waited this long to do a recap for a horror challenge. My memory's actually a little hazy on how to do this!
My Halloween night was better than last year's, but it could've been a LOT better if there wasn't any rain. Maybe next year we'll get it right, but I'm still cool with what went down.
Alright, onto the movies! Let's start with some random observances I encountered:
Other holidays I encounted:
Xmas-Stalled,Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale
April Fools-Killer Party
-Did anybody else run into a lot of those recent movies that are shot in the likes of Bulgaria or Romania (But take place in America) with U.K. actors who speak with American accents? Sometimes I just wish the natural enviroments & natural accents could always be allowed.
-Ashley Bell (Last Exorcism 2,The Day) looks a lot older than she actually is.
-Oh, hey! I just saw these people on Gotham:
Robin Lord Taylor-Would You Rather
Erin Andrews-Open Grave
-Cruel Oz (Again!) No dogs got killed in any Australian movies I saw this year. But one of them got kicked hard in 100 Bloody Acres
-I didn't mind the movie, but I kept on thinking that Stake Land was gonna be the vampire version of Zombieland
-Even though I didn't care for the Carrie remake at all. I'm still becoming a pretty big fan of Chloë Grace Moretz. By chance, I ran into a movie in this challenge called Room 6 and, since I had already seen my share of little actor kids in movies, I blurted out, "Okay, that's the best kid actor I've seen so far". It shouldn't have come as a surprise to find out it was her....Looking about 5 years old.
-Surprisingly, I went 2 for 2 with "WWE Films". And despite The Day having the WORST color palette I've ever seen in a movie, it contained my most favorite ending of the month.
Goriest slasher-Blood Night
Scariest ghost-Fragile
Coolest looking killer-Hell's Trap
Favorite death scene (See video)
Bleakest movie-The Depraved
Best score-Under The Skin
Best opening credits & song-Strippers Vs Werewolves
Awards time!
Best Movie(s) (First time viewing)
Under The Skin-Pretty much delivered what I had expected.
You're Next-Once I started looking at this as a dark comedy, I started to have a blast with it.
The Monster Club-Silly song interludes. Price & Carradine hamming it up nicely. And the anthology tales weren't too shabby either.
Here Comes The Devil-Wasn't sure that I was watching the same movie that everyone else was praising within the first 15 minutes, but then I got absorbed in it and saw the acclaim.
Open Grave-I forget who it was here that recommended this, but thanks, whoever you are!
Angst-Best camerawork I saw all month....Coolest dog I saw too.
Vampire in Venice-A strangely hypnotic movie for me.
Honorable Mentions
The Bay-Can't say I greatly enjoyed this, but it most certainly was the most ambitious horror movie of this challenge.
Stalled-Might have been better as a short, but I still loved enough of the ideas that stretched this into a feature.
Inhuman Resources-Couldn't get this one out of my head weeks after seeing it. Even though I initially just thought it was decent.
Worst Movie(s)
Dracula 3000-I know I sound like a Netflix reviewer, but "Worst Movie Ever Made".
Half Moon-This was the werewolf version of My Dinner With Andre
Killer Pad-It just annoyed the hell out of me.
The Old Dark House (1963)-I liked the original greatly, but I could just not get into this one at all.
Texas Chainsaw 3D-As a slasher by itself, it might've been ok. But the mythology tied to it was plain @$$ dumb.
So bad they were almost good
Skeleton Man
Project: Metalbeast
Deathbed
Mark of the Witch
Mountaintop Motel Massacre
Imagine My Surprise! (aka "holy shit, I actually enjoyed that!")
247°F-As with Open Water 2 (Which was a previous winner in this category) these survival movies just seem to do it for me if done right.
Honorable Mentions
I was a Teenage Zombie-Thought it would've been an unbearable Troma clone, but ended up having a good time with it.
Biggest Disappointment(s)
Dentist 2-I've had a good streak with Yuzna films. But there just didn't seem to be any life in this one.
Best "Better on a 2nd viewing" movie
Salem's Lot
Even though I've always liked it, this was the first time that I saw it in it's original full-length version. Even more better than I always thought.
"WTF did I just watch?"
The Mummy Theme Park
Curse of the Stone Hand
Death Falls Lightly
The Night of a Thousand Cats
Splatter Disco
Butcher Boys-Really not that bad in the early going. That WTF? ending completely ruined it.
Favorite Horror Babes (Breaking it down in categories this year!)
Asskickers/Final Girls:
Sharni Vinson-You're Next
Alexa Nikolas-Detention of the Dead
Kelly Paterniti-Inhuman Resources
Gloria Lynne Henry-Phantasm III
Ruta Gedmintas-Prowl
Bad Girls/She-Beasts
Scarlet Johansson-Under the Skin (I know, duh)
Nicole LaLiberte-Girls Against Boys
Jenna Dewan Tatum-Tamara
Sasha Grey-Would You Rather
Rita Calderoni-The Reincarnation of Isabel
Victims
And the man-crush:
Evan Peters in AHS:Freakshow
Lastly, here's the compilation video I promised. Last I checked, 109 of 150 movies made the vid. I accidentally deleted several files which caused me to use a movie more than once. But I'm still fine with the results.
Now to work on finalizing my list. Thank you Chad for keeping the train rolling as usual. And thank....Well, I already said it at the end of the vid.

Looking through the lists there are a good assortment of them. My vote for best list goes to SterlingBen with his table format combining posters and mini-reviews along with beer comments and opinions from his wife. Runner up is SurfinHawk, nice to see an all picture list between walls of text.
There are a lot of good lists, especially the ones with mini-reviews. I especially enjoyed lists from Walletboyniac, MrStayPuft, IndiePhantom, J. Farley, and Beebs. I'm sure I'm missing some others.

List is finalized. I've managed to really enjoy myself this year at my first official attempt at the challenge. I'm also very impressed by the work going into the lists. I've got a list of about 25 titles to investigate and I'm definitely looking forward to that. Thanks to Chad for the Herculean effort put forth every year to moderate this challenge, and I'm looking forward to shooting for higher numbers next year. Thanks!

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 10th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt
I only watched 16 movies (total w/TV, 23.25), a new low! Pathetic. All movies were FTVs. I wish the challenge was 2 months. I'm always just warming up at the end.
Trope Final Stats (out of 16 movies)
No cell service: 7 (44%)
Wait, the killer isn't dead?: 4 (25%)
Pet death: 6 (38%)
Someone catches fire: 4 (25%)
A guy named Josh: 3 (19%)
Anybody see the ad for Catch Phrase Decade? It's a portable electronic game. The chick in the video yells "I'M IN YOUR DREAMS!!" I'm assuming the answer is Freddy Krueger.

I still need to finalize some of my stats, but the total will remain. I wound up with 110, which I believe is a slight increase over last year. I'm happy with that. I was shooting for at least 100, so mission accomplished.
Another mission accomplished? Getting to see a Stza-led band in concert. Some might remember a couple of years ago that I traveled to see a concert (the Star Fucking Hipsters), only to discover that the band apparently didn't know it was supposed to play there. So, it was pretty much a waste of trip. No concert. This year, I was able to go to see Leftover Crack (both bands are led by singer Stza) on Nov. 1 at the same venue I was supposed to see his other band. And yes, it was worth the wait.
And by the way, here I am as the Headless Horseman. It was actually a big hit at the event I had to work, many requests for photos.
