Re: The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31) ***The List Threa

October Horror Challenge
This will be my first one. I have always wanted to do it but never got around to giving it a dedicated try. I hope to watch at least 30 movies.

*Well that's it for me. I wanted to watch a least 30 and got to 34. I am extremely happy with the results considering a new job and other obligations. This challenge really kept me focused on watching more movies, which is great. Can't wait until next year.*

Brainee's 2014 DVDTalk Horror Movie Challenge List

Goal: 31
Total: 36
First Time Views: 27

= first time viewing

October 3rd
1. ☼ Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931): Could I have really not seen this before? It drew a blank ... and I think I would've remembered scenes like Ivy's striptease. Then again, if I saw this movie on tv as a kid it was probably the heavily censored version. You've gotta love pre-code Hollywood! Beside the unusually graphic (for its time) content and March's Oscar-winning performance, I was really struck by the technical style. Some movies from the early 30's are very static - almost like a play with a camera in the room. But here, there was a lot of effective framing shots, dissolves, and edits.

2. Scanners (1981): Breaking in my Criterion Blu-Ray Early "body horror" is my favorite era of Cronenberg.

3. Deadly Blessing (1981): Another one that I'm not sure how I missed. Especially given all the "names" involved on both sides of the camera. It's certainly an odd little movie. It reminded me of those rural horror early 70's made-for-tv movies ... but with some boobs and slasher-y moments. I liked that I didn't really know what was going on until right at the end. Which was for the best, since the "mystery" struck me as being pretty silly.

October 4th
4. The Sacrament (2013): Ti West's slow-burn horror isn't for everyone, but I've enjoyed all of his movies (well, at least since House of the Devil). I rate this just a notch under House and Innkeepers because there were no surprises ... this is pretty much exactly the Jonestown Massacre story.

5. Proxy (2013): Misleading in that this didn't seem at all a horror movie to me. More of a depressing melodrama. I guess I can appreciate the low-budget ambition, but I didn't care for it much. Overlong, a bit dull, and not really skilled enough to make me emotionally involved.

6. Hide and Seek (2013): No, not the Robert De Niro movie. This is a recent Korean horror/thriller. Nothing fancy or terribly original. Just a tense, exciting, well-done movie.

October 5th
7. Freaks (1932): Rewatched to get in the mood for American Horror Story: Freak Show. The circus performers have trouble reading their lines (hell, I can barely understand Hans and Frieda), but there's something captivating about this movie. With political correctness and CGI effects, we'll never see its like again.

8. The Visitor (1979): What ... the ... hell?!?! Like Ed Wood movies, this isn't just a run-of-the-mill crappy movie since the filmmakers just seem so damned earnest in what they're doing. Like they really thought they were making a great movie or something. Amazingly, unlike Wood who only got the truly desperate or clueless to appear in his movies, somehow these guys got people like Mel Ferrer, Glenn Ford, Shelley Winters, and John Huston to participate. Plus a young looking early-career Lance Henriksen (who was never one to say no to crap at any stage in his career).

October 8th
9. ☼ American Horror Story: Freak Show (2014): "Monsters Among Us"; Death Note (2006): "Rebirth"

October 10th
10. ☼ Death Note (2006): "Confrontation", "Dealings"; The Strain (2014): "The Master"

11. Alien (1979): Finally getting around to breaking in my Blu Ray Alien set. It's still surprising how long into the movie it takes before the Alien is actually on the loose. Went with the theatrical cut. The deleted scenes are cool, but I prefer the original way the movie was put together. Though I do prefer that alternative edit of the "rain room" murder, with the blood dripping down.

October 11th
12. ☼ Death Note (2006): "Pursuit", "Tactics", "Unraveling", "Overcast"

13. ☼ Death Note (2006): "Glare", "Encounter", "Doubt", "Assault"

14. Aliens (1986): And for this one, I prefer the extended director's cut. Doesn't really tinker with the stuff that was perfect the first time around. Just fleshes things out a bit. This is one of those movies that just zooms by when watching, no matter how many times I've seen it.

15. Twixt (2011): While not as terrible as I feared it would be (it was fairly short and kept my attention), still a pretty flawed work. I guess you could say at least Coppola is trying to say something about the artistic process, rather than just churn out some formula movie. But it's kind of sad that Coppola's take on the artistic process winds up with such a silly and amateurish result. Normally this kind of ending pisses me off,
Spoiler:
that it was all a dream
, but it was telegraphed pretty blatantly throughout.

16. Rigor Mortis (2013): Strange mix of gloomy Asian ghost story, hopping vampires, and kung-fu fantasy. I didn't realize it until looking it up after watching, but the star appeared in the original hopping vampire movie Mr. Vampire (and a slew of other Hong Kong horror action movies). Unlike those earlier movies, this one plays it extremely seriously (and there really isn't that much hopping by the vampire). The ending is a head-trip too.

October 12th

17. ☼ Death Note (2006): "Love", "Confession"; The Walking Dead (2014): "No Sanctuary"

18. ☼ Doctor Who (2014): "The Caretaker", "Kill the Moon" Wildcard #1

October 13th
19. Blacula (1972): I've seen this before, but forgot a lot of the details. Surprisingly low on the camp you'd expect from the blaxploitation genre (outside of the over-the-top gay couple at the start and the funky soundtrack). Some of the vampire attacks are pretty creepy. Quite a bit of stupidity on both sides of the battle. The worst of which being the cop who's chasing Blacula and his (still-alive) human hostage. And the idiot shoots the girl (followed by a very deserved ass-kicking and murder by Blacula)!

20. Scream Blacula Scream (1973): Solid sequel. Adds a new wrinkle to the story by introducing voodoo elements. And the final confrontation between the heroes and Blacula's vampire minions is very exciting (with pounding tribal drums). The police wised up this time and actually brought stakes into the battle.

October 14th
21. ☼ Death Note (2006): "Friend", "Wager", "Decision", "Execution"

22. The Dead 2: India (2013): Well-made zombie movie. Though it's pretty much the exact same movie as the Ford Brothers' earlier The Dead. Just taking place in India instead of Africa. And the use of so many non-actors results in some painfully unconvincing performances. One thing I do know ... if there's a zombie apocalypse, India seems like one of the worst places in the world to be.

23. Afflicted (2013): Good little movie. Chronicle
Spoiler:
with vampires
sums it up pretty well. I liked that the leads actors seemed like regular likeable guys. Too many other producers would've ruined it (or at least lessened it) by casting pretty boy frat-house assholes.

October 17th
24. Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970): I vaguely remember that I might have seen this before. But I remember nothing about the movie (and while watching it this time, it all seemed new), so I'm counting it as a 1st time view Woah ... that was a head-trip (albeit a very beautiful one). Having watching the much more recent Amer in a previous challenge, certain similarities between the two struck me. They both use the framework of a horror movie to symbolically explore the sexual awakening of a young woman (but where Amer riffs on giallos/slashers, Valerie is a vampire story). Retroactively (after reading more about the movie), I'm a little weirded out by the fact the actress playing Valerie (who was quite beautiful, and had a number of nude scenes) was only 13 at the time of filming Don't come after me, Chris Hansen!

25. Diabolique (1955): Criterion-rot paranoia had me want to check this Blu Ray of mine. Despite it's legendary status as a landmark horror movie, I was surprised on rewatching at how very little horror content there actually was. I'd be curious to hear how well this movie works for first-time viewers. It's one of those movies that has been ripped off so many times that the things that were new back then now may come across of cliche (even though this movie did them first).

October 18th
26. ☼ American Horror Story: Freak Show (2006): "Massacres and Matinees"; Death Note (2006): "Allies", "Matsuda"

27. Alien³ (1992): This was my first time watching the assembly cut (from the Blu Ray collection). And it might've been my first time watching this movie since its theatrical run (yeah ... I liked it that much back then ). It's easier to handle knowing the awful story setup to get Ripley alone on the prison planet. There are still too many bald, dirty, sweaty white guys running around that I absolutely can't tell apart. I suppose on its own its not a bad movie. It's just way below the level of the first two Alien movies. But to be fair, aren't most sci-fi horror movies in the same boat?

October 25th
28. ☼ Doctor Who (2014): "Mummy on the Orient Express", "Flatline" Wildcard #2

29. The Den (2013): While not the most original thing in the world, I though it was pretty good for the first two thirds or so. Then it kind of fell apart for me, when it stopped taking place during internet chats and was staged like a standard slasher (but still ludicrously clinging to the found-footage style). Much the same way the Halle Berry movie, The Call, lost its way when it stopped being about a 911 call.

30. +1 (2013): Netflix counted it as a horror so I will too (even though I would say it's a sci-fi thriller). Imagine a cross between Project X (the teen party movie, not the Matthew Broderick monkey movie) and Timecrimes, and you pretty much have this movie. It was ok, though unsurprisingly doesn't go deep into the philosophical issues that the movie's situation brings up.

31. The Conspiracy (2012): I knew it!!! This movie confirms I was right all along!

32. Banshee Chapter (2013): Refreshingly not a found footage movie. But annoyingly the director shot it as if it was (lots of shaky cam). I like the central idea (admittedly I'm a sucker for Lovecraftian stories), though I wish they delved into it a little more.

Halloween
33. ☼ The Walking Dead (2014): "Strangers", "Four Walls and a Roof"

34. Terror Train (1980): This doesn't just have the "psycho killer on a train" hook, but throws in "mayhem at a masquerade party" as well. It's fun to see a super young David Copperfield. I remember watching his tv specials as a kid. Nowadays, it seems he owns some "Fantasy Island" type retreat in the Bahamas. It sounds like a bargain at $40,000/day!

35. The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears (2013): I had seen their previous Amer (and really liked it), so I knew what to expect coming in. The visuals and sounds were captivating. I'd like to see these filmmakers extend themselves and try something with a story next time, though.

36. The Howling (1981): Fun fact that I just noticed on this rewatch ... Eddie the psycho werewolf was the screen debut of Robert Picardo (best known as The Doctor on Star Trek: Voyager). Didn't recognize him at all, but his name jumped out at me during the credits. I own the Blu Ray and have seen this a number of times so obviously I'm a fan. Though I still don't care for the ending. The plotting is good ... but what seems like it should be a powerhouse emotional climax is undercut by cheap jokes. Not to mention one of the silliest looking werewolves I've ever seen.

Re: The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31) ***The List Threa

**List complete**

OCTOBER 1
1) RESOLUTION - Well made indie has intriguing ideas but doesn't quite achieve its ambitious goals. *

OCTOBER 2
2) STAGE FRIGHT (2014) - Delightful musical slasher has a perfect blend of comedy and genuine horror. One of the best of the year. *

OCTOBER 3
3) THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974) - Probably the finest horror film of all time looks amazing in new 4K restoration. I never get tired of watching this masterpiece.

OCTOBER 4
4) THE BOOGEY MAN (1980) - Ulli Lommel's surreal slasher is one of my favorites from the era.

5) YOU'RE NEXT - Rollicking home invasion thriller from director Adam Wingard is great fun. Sharni Vinson's ass kicking heroine rules!

OCTOBER 5
6) THE AMITYVILLE HORROR (1979) - Lackluster adaptation of Jay Anson's bestselling book has its moments but should have been much better (and scarier). Watch "Amityville II" instead for better cinematic treatment of the legend.

7) HALLOWEEN II (1981) - A very well crafted "Friday the 13th" knockoff.

OCTOBER 6
8) PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES - Visually stunning sci fi horror film from Mario Bava. Genuinely creepy at times with some surprising twists. Great ending! *

9) HALLOWEEN (2007) - Rob Zombie's remake is flawed but fascinating re imagining of John Carpenter's classic. Brutal and intense.

10) HALLOWEEN II (2009) - Ambitious sequel from Rob Zombie is risible at times, but packs a surprising emotional punch and is beautifully photographed. Particularly effective as a double feature with 2007 film. Avoid the theatrical cut if possible and watch the improved director's cut.

11) FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN - Premise bringing two classic monsters together is credible, however the two don't actually tangle until about 4 minutes are left in the running time! Lon Chaney is great as cursed Lawrence Talbott.

OCTOBER 7
12) BIG ASS SPIDER! - Good-natured giant bug comedy from director Mike (The Convent) Mendez. *

OCTOBER 8
13) JUG FACE - Moody backwoods horror film is low key and disturbing. Well acted and directed. Falters a bit with exposition spouting ghost. Haunting musical score by Sean Spillane. *

OCTOBER 9
14) BLOOD FEAST - Gore for gore's sake thanks you for blazing the trail!

14.5) AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW (S4 E1)

OCTOBER 10
15.5) TRICK R TREAT - A seasonal perennial. Beautifully photographed with rich autumn atmosphere.

OCTOBER 11
16.5) THE LEOPARD MAN - Jacques Tourneur...Val Lewton...'nuff said. *

17.5) HOMICIDAL - William Castle riffs on "Psycho" with the expected wacky results. Good fun. *

18.5) SISTERS (1973) - Brian DePalma's low budget AIP horror film. Ahhhh the 70's!

OCTOBER 12
19.5) ROSEMARY'S BABY - Roman Polanski's flawless adaptation of Ira Levin's novel delivers on its lofty reputation. A horror masterpiece. Lays the groundwork for decades of supernatural thrillers to come.

20.5) JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY - Dull and ill conceived ninth chapter in slasher series. An attempt at something different fails fairly miserably. Unrated version offers a few good gore gags and little else.

21.5) JASON X - Lively entry in "Friday" series is appropriately ludicrous. After lackluster 8 & 9, this episode brings back the fun.

OCTOBER 13
22.5) FREDDY VS JASON - Completing the New Line "Friday" trilogy (Why? I have no idea). Not bad monster mash up from director Ronny Yu. Energetic, gory and better than it should be.

23) THE WALKING DEAD (S5 E1)

24) BLOOD DINER - The 80's ambiance is thick in Jackie Kong's enjoyable pseudo remake of "Blood Feast". Enthusiastic and eccentric performances give the movie a weird energy that keeps things interesting. Delirious climax is pretty awesome.

OCTOBER 14
25) BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR - Jeffrey Combs is terrific in uneven sequel from director Brian Yuzna. Gets better as it goes along and builds to a wonderfully frenetic finale. Great practical effects.

OCTOBER 15
26) DEAD SILENCE - Eerie at times, but a weak script mutes overall effectiveness. Features some striking imagery and intense scare scenes. Well directed by James Wan (who seems to be warming up here for "Insidious" and "The Conjuring"). *

OCTOBER 16
27) THE BLOB (1988) - Top notch remake of 50's classic features still impressive special effects that manage to make original's jelly monster kinda scary. Clever screenplay by Frank Darabont and director Chuck Russell.

OCTOBER 17
27.5) AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW (S4 E2)

28.5) HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH - Supremely silly but still entertaining black sheep entry in interminable series. So ridiculous at times it nearly plays like a comedy.

OCTOBER 18
29.5) EYES WITHOUT A FACE - Horror meets lyricism in director George Franju's haunting masterpiece. Edith Scob is unforgettable as disfigured young woman forced into hiding by her physician father, tormented by his culpability in her injuries and desperately trying to heal her. Scob is so sympathetic as Christiane it's easy to forget that she's an accessory to some pretty serious crimes.

30.5) PIT AND THE PENDULUM (1961) - Vincent Price goes bonkers again in Roger Corman's second Poe adaptation. Intense finale.

31.5) EXCISION - Disturbing character study with a knockout performance by AnnaLynn McCord as perhaps the most alienated teenager ever. Provocative and uncompromising.

32.5) HELLBENDERS 3D - Amusing story of sinful priests versus demonic forces. *

OCTOBER 19
33.5) HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS - I've grown kinda fond of this goofy sequel.

34.5) THE AWAKENING (2011) - Rebecca Hall is fetching as debunker of the supernatural in 1921 London. Handsome production but unexceptional. *

35.5) THE NIGHT STALKER (1972) - Superb made for TV movie with Darren McGavin as iconic character Carl Kolchak, reporter and paranormal investigator extraordinaire. Followed by an equally good sequel and short lived TV series.

OCTOBER 20
36.5) HORROR EXPRESS - Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Telly Savalas are best things in decent monster on a train story. *

37) THE WALKING DEAD (S5 E2)

OCTOBER 21
38) PATRICK (2013) - Generally effective remake of 70's Australian psychic thriller. Properly atmospheric and well acted. *

OCTOBER 22
39) HE KNOWS YOU'RE ALONE - I love this slice of prime 80's slasher goodness. Light on gore, but everything else is aces with likable characters and a sufficiently creepy (unmasked) killer. Caitlin O'Heaney's heroine could be a bit more resourceful, otherwise though she's quite appealing. Features Tom Hanks in his film debut.

OCTOBER 23
40) TERROR TRAIN - Well made and acted slasher epic with a memorable killer and Jamie Lee at the top of her scream queen game. Atmospheric and spooky if a bit improbable at times. Cinamatography by John (Barry Lyndon, The Shining) Alcott!

41) X-RAY - The cheese is strong with this one.

OCTOBER 24
42) NEW YEAR'S EVIL - A good premise is wasted in boring, poorly executed slasher from Cannon Films. Unintentional humor abounds. *

OCTOBER 25
43) THE UNINVITED (1944) - Ray Milland leads a likable cast in classic ghost story. Wonderfully atmospheric with a compelling, twisty script. *

44) ZOMBIE - Can't get enough of Fulci's spatter classic. Endlessly watchable.

OCTOBER 26
45) AMITYVILLE II: THE POSESSION - Director Damiano Damiani brings a sense of style and exploitation to best of "Amityville" films. Story essentially ends about an hour in, then movie shifts into "Exorcist" territory and becomes less interesting. Finale features some cool transformation effects. I know there are far better examples of the genre, but I honestly think this may be my favorite haunted house movie. Creepy and disturbing if a tad overwrought at times.

45.5) AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW (S4 E3)

OCTOBER 27
46.5) THE BLACK CAT (1941) - Basil Rathbone and Bela Lugosi are featured in unfunny murder mystery comedy. Annoying comedian Hugh Herbert's appearance doesn't help. *

OCTOBER 28
47.5) INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 - Overrated original spawns this OK sequel that treads familiar ground. Some creepy scenes and a sly sense of humor give this one a slight edge over previous entry. *

48) THE WALKING DEAD (S5 E3)

OCTOBER 29
49) BODY SNATCHERS - Abel Ferrara's take on Jack Finney's classic novel has some good moments but can't compete with '56 original or brilliant '78 redux. Ultimately feels pointless. Meg Tilly's creepy monologue (featured in the trailer) is a highlight. *

50) REGULAR SHOW: TERROR TALES OF THE PARK IV (WILDCARD)

OCTOBER 30
51) THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN - James Whale's bloody brilliant sequel is one of the greatest flicks of all time. Boris Karloff is heartbreaking as misunderstood "monster".

OCTOBER 31 HALLOWEEN
52) SUSPIRIA - Dario Argento's masterpiece.

53) PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE - This opened in theaters 40 years ago today. I first saw Brian DePalma's awesome horror musical during this year's Drive-In Challenge and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite flicks. A total blast!

54) FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) - Tom Holland's valentine to the genre has aged beautifully. That a vampire named Jerry could be so cool is a testament to the relish Chris Sarandon brings to his performance. Roddy McDowell is pretty awesome too! A real delight.

55) HALLOWEEN (1978) Watching today...Cliche'? Maybe. But it just feels right dammit!

THIS...IS...THE...ENDDDDD!

A busy day but not a busy day watching movies This was sorta ok but my main complaint is that it did not know what it wanted to be there were some parts that worked in the original that did not work in this IMO. Also I think the original and New Nightmare was the best while part 3 would be the third best on my list Anyway I liked the TCM and Friday the 13th remake a lot better than this remake

Re: The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31) ***The List Threa

WillieMLF's 2014 DVDTalk Horror Movie Challenge List

****LIST COMPLETE****

October 1
1) Frozen (2010) - Girlfriend walked out during Frozen, and did not return for the remainder of the movie due to the graphic nature of scene. I really love this movie and chose it as my kickoff. ****
2) Dead Girl - Girlfriend did return and watched this entire movie. Got this DVD two years ago at a Blockbuster sale and forgot about it before finding it just before this years challenge. This is one depraved movie and I'm not sure I would revisit for some time.***
October 5
3) The Gravedancers (2006) - I remember someone on this thread discussing this film last year. After watching the movie I assumed they were making fun of it. Pretty bad movie with one of my favorite actors Tcheky Karyo.**
October 6
4) Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) - This may be the only Olsen I can tolerate. I enjoyed Elizabeth Olsen in Silent House! A fragmented story about fragmented reality ***1/2
October 7
5) Infestation (2009) - Formulaic with a few good laughs. Guy who can't seem to do anything right saves the planet, or Denver. **1/2
October 8
6) Red Mist (2008) - Medical student bullies get their comeuppance. Liked this much better than Shrooms which I managed to catch at Nevermore a few years back. ***
October 10
7) The Thaw (2009) - Parasite infects mankind to make a point regarding global warming. ***
October 11
8) Come Out and Play (2012) - I have not seen the original and felt a little creeped by some of the scenes. I loved the music, but wasn't convinced the kids were particularly threatening. Cheering during the boat dock scene at the end. ***
October 12
9) Open Grave (2013) - Missed both these movies at Nevermore this year and decided to do a double feature. I really liked Open Grave! Couldn't shake thinking about Murdock on the A-Team though. ***1/2
10) Last Days on Mars (2013) - Zombies in space! ***
October 13
11) Jack's Back (1988) - I've seen this one several times over the years without paying much attention to it. James Spader in the 80s, and he has a twin! Holy Cow! **
October 14
12) Razorback (1984) - A REAL ride through the outback! What's not to like about a GIANT killer boar? Ease On Down The Roooaaaaad! ***1/2
October 15
13) The Host (2006) - Subtitle issues made watching this a chore. I started thinking too much about pouring formaldehyde down the drain, and it's practical implications. Will give this one another go tonight and disconnect the brain. Resolved the subtitle issue. Loved how this movie started but dragged on way too long. *
October 17
14) Dexter Season 4 - Episodes 4 & 5 Love me some Dexter!
October 18
15) Afflicted (2013) - Derek are you OK? Uh, probably not! Felt pretty unsettled by a few scenes, but didn't feel the 'found footage' aspect helped this film. *1/2
16) The Sacrament (2013) - I really enjoyed this movie, but didn't care for the 'found footage' aspect and felt it got in the way of telling a good story. It's amazing to me how true life can be the basis for such horrific events. ***1/2
October 19
17) Dexter Season 4 Episodes 6 & 7
October 20 Took a day off today to catch up on some horror.
18) The Possession of Michael King (2014) - Tempting fate. Hated this movie from the start. *
19) The Lift (1983) - Love this movie! Love the score! 1980s attempt at pointing out the evils of technology. ***1/2
20) ATM (2012) - Playing most of the day on IFC. I have thought about this movie quite a bit since watching it last year. My opinion has definitely improved! ***
October 21
20) Hell Baby (2013) - Had a lot of fun watching this movie. ***1/2
October 22 Double Feature at The Colony Theater
22) Nosferatu (1922) - Favorite from the German Horror Classics box. Good looking prints for both movies. ****
23) Phantom of the Opera (1925)
October 22
24) The Signal (2014) - Went into this one blind. Pretty bizarre for most of the ride. I need to watch this one again when I'm in the right frame of mind. ***
October 25
25) Oculus (2013) - This one required more attention than I expected from a WWF film. Hated it the first time I saw it because I wasn't paying close attention. Liked it better this time around but not really by much. **
26) Stalled (2013)
October 26
27) Dexter Season 4 Episodes 8 & 9
October 28
October 29 Double Feature at The Colony Theater
28) White Zombie (1932)
29) Night of the Living Dead (1968)
October 30
30) Frankenstein (1931)
October 31
31) Dexter Season 4 Episodes 10 & 11
32) Trick 'r Treat (2007)

Re: The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31) ***The List Threa

Goals:
100 Movies
31 Different Beers

Legend:

* = FTV

Wife's Thoughts In Blue
B-31.
Samuel Adams: Fat Jack (Massachusetts)
My Thoughts: Last year's winner for best pumpkin beer does not disappoint. It's a heavy pumpkin ale that really hits the flavor of the season. That and the higher alcohol content really plays just right and complements the smooth vegetable/pumpkin flavors nicely. This feels like a really craft beer, something made in a basement or by monks...
(4.5 out of 5)
110.)
Van Helsing (2004) (Blu-Ray)*
My Thoughts: I might have liked this if I was 6 or 7. But as an adult it's muddled plot and overly CG reliant visuals are a bore. Combine that with the casual safety of a PG-13 horror movie and you have a movie that is aimed at horror fans, geared for kids and almost as long as the English Patient.
(2.5 out of 5)
My Wife's Thoughts: It's like wither not for adults or not for kids but in the middle. I expected too much, a little disappointed. A movie is not for kids but not for really adult. They need make a little better. But Hugh Jackman and Kat Beckinsale are there, thats why it's ok, otherwise I doesn't like it. I give only 3 star.
(3 out of 5)
111.)
In Search Of... Salem Witches (1980) (Internet) (Wild Card #3)*
My Thoughts: I of course was not born yet when In Search Of... was on first run, but I oddly enough still have a fond place in my heart for it. Perhaps predominantly for the Nemoy narration. This episode was a bit heavy on the current day hippy witches (1980's witches are not quite as fun as they sound) and a bit light on the historical mythos. Still an entertaining view and an interesting little time capsule.
(3 out of 5)
- Oct 31st -
112.)
Popcorn (1991) (VHS)
My Thoughts:I had forgotten Dee Wallace was in this!
(x out of 5)

B-32.
The Kaiser: Imperial Oktoberfest (Colorado)*
My Thoughts: vvvv
(x out of 5)
115.)
Magic (1978) (Blu-Ray)*
My Thoughts: Us was you. Wow, I am not a fan of the Dummy sub-genre, there is only so much ventriloquist shtick out there but this was amazing.
(x out of 5)
B-33.
Widmere Brothers Brewing: Okto Festival Ale (Oregon)
My Thoughts: vvvv
(x out of 5)
B-34.
Samuel Adams: Oktoberfest (Massachusetts)

Terror Vision (1986) (Blu-Ray)*
My Thoughts: Regular folk.
(x out of 5)
B-35.
Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales: La Roja (Michigan)
My Thoughts: vvvv

The Simpsons: Treehouse Of Horror XXV (2014) (Internet) (Wild Card #4)*
My Thoughts: XXV
(x out of 5)
118.)
Halloween III: Season Of The Witch (1982) (VHS)
My Thoughts: All watch and no play makes Ben a dull boy. All watch and no play makes Ben a dull boy. All watch and no play makes Ben a dull boy. All watch and no play makes Ben a dull boy. All watch and no play makes Ben a dull boy. All watch and no play makes Ben a dull boy. All watch and no play makes Ben a dull boy. All watch and no play makes Ben a dull boy.
