I love that this one got the blu-ray treatment and under the Gorgon Video label. It's a full-on special edition and a pretty great package. I would like to see a fan-edit of Maximum Overdrive with some kills inserted from this. King missed the mark by not having the Dixie Diner in a strip mall with an adjacent health spa, and this film misses when it veers away from the health club setting. It's no Aerobicide, but it's still a pretty killer workout.

I honestly have no idea what I am starting out with. I've got a massive backlog of horror titles built up, so it'll probably end up being something completely random.

I'll probably start with Island of Lost Souls, since I crapped out on it being my subset pick.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I'm going to start with some appetizers, either:

Community - "Introduction to Statistics" (S1)
Community - "Epidemiology" (S2)
Community - "Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps" (S3)
Community - "Paranormal Parentage" (S4)

or

The Real Ghostbusters - "When Halloween Was Forever" (86)
The Real Ghostbusters - "Halloween II 1/2" (87)
The Real Ghostbusters - "The Halloween Door" (89)
Community - "Regional Holiday Music" (S3) - Horror episode wearing the facade of a cheerful Christmas musical

The block I don't watch will be a palate cleanser later on in the month. Then I think I'll burn my way through the six episodes of Quatermass and the Pit (1958). And on the third day a movie at last. I'm leaning toward Dead Snow, but I'll check out the day's theme and see if anything appeals.

I really haven't decided yet but i'm thinking of Brahm Stokers Dracula or some older classic like the original The Fog. But that could change as time grows near.

I don't like to blind buy anything these days after being burned by doing it so many times over the years but I think I am going to start with my first blind buy in a very long time: Curtains. I hope it is as enjoyable as I have read.

Glad the subset list is almost done! It's my favorite part of the challenge since it involves the use of the much unloved "review" section of this forum and everyone discussing their opinions on a common film. I miss the monthly horror challenge that Chad tried to do several years ago.

I've also got Death Spa on tap; looking forward to that one - it's insane that Anchor Bay released that title on blu-ray out of all the potential gems they have (or had) access too (see Phantasms).

First time viewing of Curtains here too; Curtains has such an epic reputation there's not way it could be that awesome.

That's the way to do it; even though I anticipate watching certain titles I often find myself just viewing whatever strikes me. Being too organized is a buzzkill.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

No idea what exactly will be my first movie to watch in October, but I have several lined up (1 movie per work day, double and/or triple features for the weekends).
I'm using IMDb statistics (number of votes) separating my list in three "popularity" categories. 1: ten days of movies with no more than 1,500 votes. 2: ten days of movies with 1,500 - 25,000 votes and 3: ten (+1) days of movies with more than 25,000 votes.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Stumbled on a decent deal at Wal-mart today for you completists out there. I have all the Psycho movies but have always wanted to own the failed TV Movie/Pilot Bates Motel starring Bud Cort & Lori Petty from 1987. The only way to get it has been thru Amazon or other etailers as a MOD version for around 15 to 20 bucks.

Walmart has a new 4 pack that contains Psycho II, III, IV and now Bate Motel. Unfortunately they are all crammed onto one dvd so I can't say anything about quality yet. But then again, I can't imagine the quality of the MOD version being that great either. I already have the old 3 pack that had 2, 3 & 4 spread over 2 discs and kept it since IV has been released on BD yet.

Anyway, the price is $8.88 for the four pack. Here is the kicker though...it has a sticker on the front for up to $7.50 Fandango cash to see Dracula Untold which opens 10-17-14!

By the way, they had several other 4 packs like this with the movie cash with various horror movies (though most weren't rare, were dvds and had already had BD releases) so I didn't pay much attention to those.

Not sure what I will start with yet. Probably this weekend will go through my movies and start lining them up.

Sadly my Halloween order got canceled, but they were nice enough to give me a 30% off coupon. Anything on that site worth getting?

Nope. It shot up to $149.99 a day or two ago and now directs to nothing.

Thank you, sir.

And don't let my feelings toward a film dissuade anyone from picking something. It's your pick.

That leaves us at needing 1 more volunteer and Trevor's pick, so somebody fill that last spot already and let's get it done! The checklist is still waiting.

Nothing's set in stone until I post the list table.

Yeah, that one never seems to drop in price. I personally blind bought it thanks to the infamous B&N "glitch".

The link will be included in the subset list table, FYI.

There was some talk of moving Comedy of Terrors subset day to after the Vincent Price Collection II set comes out; just want to +1 that.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Damn, I've bought Psycho II and III multiple times on DVD now and still haven't bought the blu-rays. I'll probably get that for Bates Motel, though, since the price is right and I'd love to see it again.

Another I don't think has been mentioned that would fit that theme is Eating Raoul (1982). It's available for free streaming at Hulu (free account required) and *not* free at Amazon.

Darn. I was just at Walmart looking at that movie promo display trying to justify a purchase, but didn't look closely at that package, assuming it was just the Psychos I own. I'm out now, perhaps I'll go back. Need the movie ticket and view for the checklist anyway.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 10th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

This was posted by the A.V. Club this afternoon. The song's not that great (and it has a horrible title), but the video concept falls so much in line with the challenge that I felt like it should get a mention here (spoilered for gore):

Spoiler:

I thought it was cute.
