Once Upon A Time in America 2D SE...?Bootleg??
Here I go again...sorry but have to ask...does anyone have this title that can answer some questions for me? Bought one "New" off Amazon marketplace. UPC is different than those listed for sale at various internet sites.(mine is 085393190927). Front of the box on Amazon shows a quote on bottom right hand side of case...mine has no quote! DVD's shown in picture on Amazon shows black labels with photos on them. Mine are flat grey with minimal writing and 0 photos! Emailed WB home video but never got a reply! There is also what looks like a saw cut 1 inch slit through the UPC code right on through the box/case! Does anyone know if WB changed the way they packaged this title ,(no quote), or changed the color of the labels on the discs (grey)??? Any input would be greatly appreciated as this is getting real old, real fast to me in the last few months!!
thank you-
thank you-

Since it has the slash through the bar code, I'd say it's legit.
If you're worried though, listing it as New and having a slit through the UPC means you can get a refund because those aren't supposed to be listed as new. The highest they can be graded is Very Good. Doesn't even matter if they listed it like that in the description. Buyer's are required to read the description. If you did return it, you wouldn't have to pay shipping because if the seller refuses to do a refund for the wrong grading, you'd win an A to Z claim.

Mine does not have a quote on the cover. I got mine at Best Buy in America a long time ago (Ha! 'Once Upon A Time In America', if you'd like to say), 2 disc digipak, instead of a quote, it's a sticker saying "International Version", and the barcode number is slightly different from what you posted.

Sometimes there is a version made for the Canada market as well.
I too agree that there wouldn't be a saw cut on the upc code if it was a bootleg.
There are three versions listed on amazon. I think easily there could be variations in the packaging through three versions.
I don't think bootleggers bother with items without increased value.

Well a google search on the UPC code you mentioned does in fact match to "Once Upon A Time In America", maybe just a reissue. Mine is the original press.

DVD Aficionado has it listed with a release date of 6-10-2003 with no quotes on the cover.

Looks to me like you just got an older version of the release than what is out now.

If not a reissue, maybe a rental version? I remember receiving the disc through netflix in grey all those years ago.

I remember when I added this title to my DVDProfiler that there was more than one UPC for it.
I have the same UPC as you do (085393190927). I have full artwork discs, but I bought mine over 5 years ago from a Virgin Megastore.
As for having discs without art, it's become a pretty standard practice for most of the major companies to skimp on artwork, especially on DVDs. Once they run out of the original stock, they start with the basic greys.
As to why there's multiple UPCs for the same title, who knows? I know back when this came out that Paramount would have multiple UPCs for some of their titles depending on the type of security system that was inside. You'd get one UPC if you bought it at Best Buy, but Circuit City and Target would have a different UPC.
I don't know if Warner ever did this though.

There were 3 releases on DVD. The 1st hit the streets 6/10/2003 (UPC 085392002627) discontinued around 07/24/2011. This was soon replaced with a 12/16/2003 (UPC 085393190927) discontinued around 11/20/2011. The current release (UPC 883929158300) came out 1/11/2011.
