Bought three back in '99.
Out of Sight:CE (still have it)
Starship Troopers (don't have it, upgraded to Superbit, special edition, and now Blu-ray and have kept all of those versions)
Zero Effect (still have it and don't think I've watched it since)

Re: Do you still have the first DVD you ever purchased?
Yes, my first were gifts and one I remember from the Christmas where the family got our first DVD player was Mickey's House of Villains.
I LOVED The House of Mouse so I really wanted it. I was freaking out when I opened the player, it was a Symphonic VHS combo but I didn't care or know, really. It was the Apex we got for my bedroom that crapped out on a Spongebob DVD that introduced me to brands... and the Toshiba that replaced it is still fantastic today!

My first was Doctor Who - The Five Doctors in 2000 (about a year before I had a player). I still have it plus the upgraded two disc version from c. 2008.

I picked this DVD at Target a couple days before my first PC DVD drive arrived in the mail in May 2000. That drive served as my DVD player for a couple of years until prices on stand alone players became reasonable.
I also still have these firsts:
First VHS: Batman (1989)
Fisrt CD: Aerosmith - Get A Grip (1993)
First HD DVD: Batman Begins & 4 others (2007)
First Blu-ray: The Dark Knight (2008)

Yes, I am quite young and I didn't start collecting until 2005.My first DVD was Batman Begins Full Screen Edition (I still haven't upgraded to the Widescreen edition.) It was a gift. For purchasing, I can't even remember, because I am a teenager.

Since I just got a new TV I've been doing a "firsts" viewing, watching the first titles to come out on each video format. Watched the original jewel case release of "The Craft" last night, and 50 First Dates which was one of the first Blu-Rays- I bought that before I got a Blu-Ray player just because I wanted one of the first discs even if the format didn't make it. Will later watch one of the HD-DVD launch titles (also got one of those when they hit the market but didn't get a player til after the format war was over), Terminator 2 on D-VHS, the original Jaws DiscoVision laserdisc, and Race For Your Life Charlie Brown on CED. Will probably watch one of my Magnetic Video movies on both VHS and Beta too, though I don't think I have any of their very first 1977 releases.
