I forget if we asked this already, but are documentaries about horror movies or horror stars (or producers) acceptable for this challenge? TCM did one on Val Lewton that ran with the Lewton marathon they did and I'm hoping to include it in this challenge.

^Yes.

Oh, forget to mention this earlier:

I plan on posting the final(?) draft of the checklist and the Theme Nights list right after Labor Day. And once the latter is up that means we can start the group process of picking films for the Subset list.

Procrastination is not my middle name this year.

That's very cool man. I chose the date of my wedding because it was the same date that my grandparents had gotten married. It's nice to do things to link us to the past.

Back on topic, I suppose my goal for this year will be to top last year's total of 102. I don't think I'll ever be able to reach the numbers I had in the past but it will be fun to try.

I'm so excited for this even though I fizzled out last year. It's going to be hard to make an impact in horror while trying to get things together for the comedy challenge in November. I can't wait to see the draft for the checklist, I may actually try to complete it for once.

This is going to be the first challenge that I'm officially going to participate in. October is usually a busy month for me so I don't plan to get anywhere near the numbers that some of you rack up. Last year, I did manage to make it thru my complete Nightmare on Elmstreet collection along with the newly made documentary that came out about it. That is probably the extent of the Horror that I own on DVD, but between renting things from Netflix and Instant Streaming, I plan to expose myself to movies that I probably normally wouldn't have watched. I think this is a great way to get into the season and I can't wait for October 1st!

Welcome, MikeWP78 and all other new participants! Remember the goal is to have fun and not to compete. It took me a while to learn that.

Not going to be able to do the 100+ I did last year (was unemployed at the time) but can hopefully hit 50 and planning on them all being FTVs.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I've only hit around 40 the last few challenges but since it's horror, I might step it up some and try to go for 60.

I'm just glad it starts on a Friday night. Otherwise I feel like I'm losing time when it starts on a weekday and I have to work. The last week of September is also one of the busiest weeks where I work, in terms of people coming in(It's the first week of school).

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

i had to alter my plans bc my niece wants to participate in this with me this year. shes been watching horror with me for he past year with some of my favorite *safer* titles..Trick 'r Treat, Noes, F13th, scream, but were gonna kick it up a notch and this weekend went thru my collection and picked out 50 titles she wants to watch.

sadly the first weekend me and some friends will be heading down to philly for our annual weekend of horror and will be hitting up eastern state, mutters museum, pennhurst, and Bates Motel so itll be worth having to play catch up...anyone from the area recommend me some other sites or attraction in the general area?

I'm in, but with school and work my total this year is going to be very low. But i'll do what I can. Not looking forward to a good showing this year because of other commitments.

I have come to that conclusion. I participated in the early years but dropped out when I took the title of horror "movie" too seriously.

I still did my personal horror movie watching for the month of October but didn't list my films or participate in the discussions which I admit I missed. I'm not taking it serious anymore and plan to join in this year after a long absence.

I missed the fun for several years. What can I say? I'm hard-headed.

Agreed, these challenges are much better without the nit picking or competition. It's all about having fun and discussing a genre we love. The competition aspect should always be an afterthought and not the primary focus.

My grandson is itching to watch The Wolfman (Universal w/Lon Chaney) as well as many of the other classic Uni Horror titles. He's just now old enough for most of those titles. It looks like several Saturday afternoons will be classic Universal horror time at my house!

good times ahead. I tried showing my little cousin who was 9 Abbot And Costello meet Frankenstein and he was terrified and screaming... Disappointing

I believe I was six or seven when I first watched FRANKENSTEIN (1931) when it played on TV and I loved it then. Then the other Universal horrors followed and I loved every one of them as a kid.

I'll give it a shot, what the hell. I don't have a lot of horror titles but Netflix is my friend.

I'm IN! And at the risk of my sanity I'm going for the full 100 this year.
During the animation challenge I watched mostly stuff from my own DVD collection with only a couple of rentals, I'll try to do the same with the Horror Challenge and see discs I haven't seen in years! I've been using all my willpower NOT to crack open my new The Omen 2 disc edition DVD until October!

My sentiments exactly. I'd love to see these all come out on bluray. Another good feature about these older films is that most of them are very short. You can get in a few of them very easily during the challenge and increase your score.

Definitely excited for this year! Though I don't know if I'll be able to get anywhere past 30. Even still, looking forward to trying.

Totally different generation but I remember being haunted after seeing a part of Freddy's Nightmares TV show at my uncle's house. Plus that creepy Freddy Nightmare on Elm Street 5 cardboard standup at the local video store scared me senseless around that same age.

Shooting for 100 this year. Hope to do it, as even though I am retired, there are always family obligations.
