Maybe because I don't have enough posts?

Just finished streaming Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! I felt it was a bit overlong, but then I'm woefully unfamiliar with almost any of these people and films. Lots of nice clips, though!

What I liked about it was that there was so much I was unfamiliar with. American Grindhouse was good, but I was already familiar with nearly all the movies. One thing I do remember from childhood was Patrick. I remember having nightmares over that film but otherwise I had completely forgotten it until that doc.

I've spent the last several years picking up movies from that documentary, after seeing Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! at Fantastic Fest. I think I noted earlier in this thread that Alvin Purple is available again. One of the movies I despair ever getting my hands on is Dark Age (1982). Still, I've picked up a fair chunk of them (those oz-ploitation sets sure helped).

Man, second time I have been burned by an old cheapie disc (both "new") this challenge!

Maybe I'll Come Home In The Spring (With Sally Field) bit it last week
and now Lip Service with Kari Wuhrer only made it 20 mins before glitching out.

But I guess that is one of the perils of B movies.

Did they fix that bug where you can only get up to around 800 or so posts in a thread? I'm seeing threads with many more that that. Chad always starts a new thread when the Horror challenge gets up to 800 posts.

Yeah, "last DVD you watched" is at 5000, so is that bug fixed? I sent a question to the mods.

I was thinking of watching my Godzilla/Gamera/Ultraman films for this one, but then I remembered that there was a Sci-Fi challenge coming up, so I'll save those for then. When is that challenge?

I remember hearing that Synapse Films (for a little bit at least) had the rights to that film, but it never saw a release.

Makes sense, since they did release a slew of Aussie-Exploitation like Strange Behavior, Long Weekend, Dark Forces/Harlequin, Patrick and Thirst.

Yes, but they had problems getting their hands on a print, which is odd cause Tarantino has a print, at least, but anyway that's why there's no Dark Age dvd.

I bought the Blu on release day based solely on word of mouth and it's easily one of my all time fav blind buys. And just last night I caught it after the Dollars trilogy and the replay value continues to hold up well. I'm just curious as to how many of those 50(!) unofficial sequels it spawned are worth watching? Not a bad idea for a theme night.

I had to use a Wild Card for it, but watching Ninja Assassin after a slew of 80's Ninja Flicks during this Challenge was a great idea.

It was nice to see Sho Kosugi get so much screen time in this film. Also it was nice to not hear him dubbed.

Korean Pop-Star Rain was also pretty awesome in this film. I hope we see him in more Action Films in the future.

I wasn't planning on watching them all but I kinda got into a Godzilla mood...now that I've watched all the originals I kinda wish I held off too! I think I'll be sorry by the time the Sci Fi Challenge rolls around that I watched so many!

Grand Duel was pretty good. The magically transporting henchman, in the canyon massacre scene, looks exactly like Billy Mitchell, minus the American tie.

yeah i wonder if any of the rip-offs are worth it? there has to be a good one in there somewhere. it looks like Franco Nero was in an official sequel "Il Grande Retorno" that could fit into that theme night, not sure if its anygood.

i read that because of the popularity of Django in Germany after its relaease basically every movie with Franco Nero in it gets Django added to its title.

I almost created a Django category. That's what I love about Italy and Europe. Not only do they rip something off, they rip the fuck out of it off.

I've heard one of the Scandinavian countries renames every Mel Brooks movie "Springtime for..." because of the popularity of The Producers. "Springtime for the History of the World part 1." Might be apocryphal, but it's a great story.

I think Django the Bastard is supposed to be a good one.

Next year I definitely need to partake in this challenge; looks like some good lists out there this year.

It's not too late. Hitting 100 is not a requirement, or even a goal. It's a gimmick to hang a challenge on.

13 days is enough to get some movies in.
