Re: The 5th Annual Academy Award Challenge ***LISTS THREAD***

GOALS:
  1. Beat previous years' totals:
  2. Watch more of the "classics" that I still haven't gotten around to. I finally watched Gone With The Wind and Casblanca last year... Why not keep going, right?
  3. Go through my unwatched movies and watch as many of those as possible that count... starting with my Blu-ray Discs.
  4. Watch as many Best Picture winners as possible. There SO many that I have never seen. I watched Wings, the very first Best Picture winner, last year/ I hope to watch The Broadway Melody (the second Best Picture winner) this year.
  5. Watch as many movies as I can. This is obviously a given, but I felt I should include it.

Re: The 5th Annual Academy Award Challenge ***LISTS THREAD***

Indy24LA's 2nd Annual Academy Award Challenge

2010

Goal= 25 (Finished last year with 14)
* indicates first time viewing

January 28th
1. Gladiator- Started off strong with an all time favorite.

January 29th
2. My Fair Lady- Another all time favorite, the humor in it is brilliant.
3. Kramer vs. Kramer- The setting may be a bit dated, but the story is not.

January 30th
4. Spartacus*- Why are these movies about gladiators so bloody long?
5. Bullit*- Damn Steven Mcqueen was cool.

February 2nd
6. East of Eden*- Much better than Exit to Eden.

February 4th
7. Rebel Without a Cause- Damn James Dean was cool.
8. As Good As It Gets- Great acting and writing, but Taub and Cuddy stole the show.

February 5th
9. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid*- Not what I expected, a lot more humor and less action.
10. A Hard Day's Night*- Silly fun with those cheeky Beatles.

February 6th
11. Ben-Hur*- They weren't kidding, that was old testament long.

February 7th
12. The Social Network*- Great movie all around, but Garfield was the star.

February 11th
13. Brokeback Mountain*- Great acting, but a little slow and there was no pudding.

February 12th
14. Airplane (WC: Leslie Nielsen)- The granddaddy of all parody films and the best.

February 13th
15. Breakfast at Tiffanys*- A product of its time, I think I like the song more.
16. Little Miss Sunshine- A great all around little film, Carrel should have gotten more acclaim.
17. Splash- There was a time when Daryl Hannah was hot and the first name Madison was abnormal.

February 14th
18. Crazy Heart*- Good movie with great performances, but really, it was just a long country song.

February 18th
19. Wallstreet*- Can a movie be a retroactively true story?

February 19th
20. Platoon- Intense war movie, Sheen and Stone's best work.
21. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof*- I like how old Hollywood used to surround its stars with unattractive people so they shined brighter.

February 20th
22. All the President's Men- A movie about interviews and typing has never been more exciting.
23. Diner*- Like the movie the Outsiders for peeps in their 20's. And Mickey Rourke used to look human!!!

February 21th
24. The Reader*- Wow, guess I didn't really pay any attention to the previews cause I did not see any of that coming.

February 25th
25. Judgment at Nuremberg*- Masterful courtroom drama, it would be nice if people could actually learn from this movie, but...

February 26th
26. The Player*- What actor working in the early 90s wasn't in this movie?

February 27th
27. Gone With the Wind*- About as long as the Civil War, I know it was made in a different era, but hard to over look the whole 'Noble Old South' aspect.
28. The 2011 Academy Awards*- Wow, lots of hate for this show... it was okay, but bring back Jon Stewart or Steve Martin if you want it to be entertaining.

Re: The 5th Annual Academy Award Challenge ***LISTS THREAD***

Goal is 50. Shouldn't be too hard. I will be seeing all 10 Best Picture nominees at a 24 hour marathon. So that should help. I will also try to complete the checklist, as well as get through as many previously unseen movies that I own that qualify. (Rebecca, Ran, 8 1/2, Bridge on the River Kwai, Deer Hunter, The Third man and a few others I can't think of)

Current Totals
Movies Watched = 83
Shorts Watched = 15
Oscars Won = 167
Special Achievement Oscars = 3
Oscars Nominated = 444
