Here is a shot to give you an idea of what the new shelves I'm building the center of the room will look like. Only half are built at the moment (the half you can see), but by the weekend they should be finished. I think the BDs will go in the center of the new shelves. I haven't 100% decided yet.

I just finished closing in half of my garage.
Can't post pictures of the movies yet, they are being stored in totes at the moment.

I don't have pictures yet as I'm not done setting up, but today I got a surprise present from my sister-in-law! She loves Craig's List and does quite well buying furniture, fixing it up and then reselling. She found 2 sets of media shelves, about 6 feet tall by 4 feet, I'd estimate, big. I've already set up one and filled it.
I'm going to have to wait for the other one as I have to rearrange to fit it in and need someone who can lift to do it. Plus, I have to take down stuff off the walls and have to buy more command strips.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can finally get my TV on DVDs out of the cabinets I have them in and onto shelves for easier access! And as a bonus, the shelves have a top to them, so I can put my over sized sets on top rather than on the floor! Whoo hoo!

An interesting look though as I have a room I am about to transform into my media storage archive.
Here is my current HT set up:

Funny. I just finished my cabinet recently and was wondering if there was a show off thread here. Shoulda known.

That vid is really just the A/V and the tv...will have to do a video of just my movie shelf now...most of you guys have more movies, by a lot (pretty impressive considering I sell the things for a living and get a ton gratis!) but I can almost guarantee no one has a longer continuous shelf. I think it is like 25+ feet.
Here's some pics, one of which shows some of the shelf at the top right. Note that some of the stills are older than the video....so some show only one Lexan door but I do have the second one installed now, as in the vid. Some of them also show my Onkyo before it fried it's HDMI board. I then replaced that with the (dual knob) Pioneer. I also ditched the gamecube (wii plays those games anyway) to be able to fit in an Atari XE.
If you watch the vid and like it (and oh hell, even if not) leave me a comment on the youtube page! It's my first video and the few comments there are cold and lonely.
And don't bash the Bills stuff!

I made a short video showing how I've squeezed 6000+ Blus & DVDs into my apartment with the intent of helping folks who may be facing storage issues.
It's a little shaky & the audio could be louder, so apologies...
Big 6000+ DVD & Blu-ray Collection Storage Solution - YouTube
I also took a few photos...
Fortunately, my wife and I have a large living room in our apartment, so it doubles as our home theater.
The back wall is where we keep all of our discs.
DVDs that don't come in traditional cases go on the shelving units mounted on the wall.
We can't easily reach the top shelf, so boxes on the very top are empty and for display only.
I primarily collect older films and 3D discs.
Here are some Blu-ray 3D discs in one of our three large spinning towers.
These towers are the largest capacity I've been able to find.
Each tower has a capacity of 756 DVDs, but since blu-rays in the USA
come in thinner cases, you can get 34 BRDs per shelf. With 7 shelves per side
(when spaced equally), that comes to a capacity of 952 blu-rays.
The towers are represented as holding more (1056 Blu-rays),
so technically you could stack a few in on their sides, etc - but it will look a bit awkward.
Results will be different with thicker UK BRD cases, etc.
Here's a detail of the center shelving with some Arrow Video Blu's and a couple of Charlton Heston epics.
Center shelves and more 3D Blu-rays.
This cart fits nicely under the center shelves.
More 3D discs and some EC slipcased box sets on the bookshelf to the right.
More books.
DVDS that originally came in cases have their cases removed,
are inserted in vinyl sleeves, and are filed in these drawers.
I had the drawers custom made. We use divider cards to organize by genre, star or director.
Myrna Loy rates a divider.
Here are some DVDs in the vinyl sleeves.
...and some Blu-Rays in the vinyl sleeves too.
I talk a bit about how I arrived at this storage system in the video link up at the top. It will also give you a better look at the discs and a quick overview of the room including our ceiling-mounted projector and screen.
If you have any questions or comments, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks!

Wow, very impressive collection and storage set-up, sinraft. Looks great!
The use of vinyl sleeves looks like a really good way to condense the size of a collection.

That's awesome! I would post pictures, but my collection is on those chrone kitchen racks and thus not all that visually appealing.

It's been YEARS since I checked out this thread. Unfortunately for me, I've gotten divorced and my collection now sits in three oversized plastic bins until I can get a bigger place.

Wow sinraft you have the most organized beautiful collection I've even seen, but Movie Massacre you take the cake. I would love to just spend a week hanging out watching movies in your "cave". I am shocked by that, and you have plenty of room to spare.
