How This Works:
Spoiler:

Horror film suggestions are given, each title receives its own thread and discussion ensues.

In an effort to keep titles easily accessible, they must be streaming on Netflix and currently available on DVD.

All discussions will take place in the DVD Reviews and Recommendations forum.
Links to the discussion threads are in the above table schedule and posted in this thread immediately after they're put up.

Threads for the chosen films are posted on a weekly basis.
Random.org determines the order titles on the schedule appear.

Participation does not require you to pick a film, but if you do PLEASE at least make an effort to say something about it.

Feedback is always welcome.

Re: The Horror Film Club

I took the liberty of making the first selection to get the ball rolling...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gKRp1FXQSgc&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gKRp1FXQSgc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

EDIT: I chose this primarily because it was recently released, which means very few of us watched it (two, on VHS) for the horror challenge. That, and I consider it to be an underrated semi-classic.

Re: The Horror Film Club

A suggestion I made in the other thread, and I don't know if you saw, but why not make the first 2 or 3 suggestions yourself and then wait to see who responds to the reviews and discussions before choosing the next few selections. That way people who particpate are the ones who choose movies.

Yep, I think you should take steps to ensure participation.

Maybe only let people make choices if they actively participate in at least three previous threads.

In the Criterion Club, we have people choosing films and not even participating in the thread for that film, let alone others.

When you choose a film, you are encouraging ~100 others to buy or rent that film. You owe it to them to make that effort worthwhile by making your film's thread full of useful conversation, and by returning the favor and watching their film choices.

Bad Moon

A underrated werewolf flick. It's not perfect, but aside from one bad shot of CG it's got some of the coolest werewolf FX work in a long time. Great book, too.

Re: The Horror Film Club

I wouldn't even let people choose movies at this point. When it's a person's time to choose, send them a PM or let them know in the thread and give them a couple days to pick. If they don't, go to the next person.

But if we are choosing, I pick Puppet Master

Re: The Horror Film Club

I'll pick Sheitan, with Vincent Cassell. Hoping I'll finally have money around the end of the month to pick up Silent Scream.

Yep. The current snapper-case release can be had from Amazon for just $5.79. Or, as dcrw6 said, you can get it in a 4-film collection with some other good titles.

Re: The Horror Film Club

^ and ^^, thanks.

I was mainly asking because in my brief search Netflix was showing it as 'save', which usually means that it is OOP or not released yet.

Have the other three titles, but I'll pick up the single release if I don't own it already. Love Mariel Hemingway.

Well apparently I misremembered the name. I thought I had a VHS of a creepy evil children movie called that but I can't seem to find it now. Sorry about that. Just disregard my suggestion.

Re: The Horror Film Club

Haven't been to the DVD Talk forum much since the challenge, but I'm thrilled to see some forward movement with the Horror Film Club!

I'll suggest The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue. I did a blind buy of the Blu-ray and have yet to see it. This would be a good excuse!

Yeah, your suggestion is the reason I went forward with the first selection. But I decided to go ahead and pick the next selection through random voting with the current suggestions. More on that below?...

Normally I'd completely agree, but I think it's obvious we're not even remotely going to have the participation of the horror challenge. And, if the Criterion Club is any indication, we'll be lucky to have a handful of discussions per thread so I don't want to possibly limit what's already limited any further ...if possible.

And Darth Maher brought up a good point before deleting his thread (I see everything) - just because some of us don't participate in one thread doesn't necessarily mean we won't in others or something to that effect. I would have been more specific but he deleted his thread.

I want to avoid the PM route like the black plague 0f 1665! Half the time I don't notice them until well after they're sent (even with E-mail notification, which doesn't seem to work half the time) or someone just plain forgets to send one. And it damn near took me 2 weeks just to reply to these threads, but that's mainly due to my forgetting to subscribe to this thread. Anyway, my point is don't attempt posting in an internet forum directly after attending a Christmas party where alcoholic beverages were served by a clumsy robot. Ha!
