Re: Gone With the Wind 70th ann. SD Dvd???

Yep...both formats were released day and date this past week. Extras are the same on both, except that the Blu-ray version adds a DVD of the "When the Lion Roars" documentary that is not included with the SD version. This same doc was also included in the Blu-ray Wizard of Oz set.

I passed on the Wizard UCE and don't regret it; the additional extras weren't that enticing to me. (I have the 2005 three-disc reissue). But I go back and forth on GWTW. I have the four-disc issue from 2004, so all I'd basically get for upgrading are: new transfer of the movie, one more disc of extras, CD soundtrack, and printed materials. Is that worth blowing $50.00 of the $75.00 in amazon.com gift certificates I have now? I don't know...and I don't really have storage space for this behemoth either. But I love the movie and it does look really nice.

Decisions decisions...

Someone on HTF posted that the difference in picture quality from the 2009 versus the 2004 was minimal at best, much like the last go around with Oz.

I too have the previous multi disc releases of both, and passed on both new releases. Just wasnt enough to warrant spending the money on.

Re: Gone With the Wind 70th ann. SD Dvd???

Thanks for the info. I will pass on this one though as I wanted the 'When the Lion Roars" extra and again getting burned because I refuse to switch to Blu-Ray because of the large collection I have of SD discs. I hope studios will someday be aware that some of us will just stay with SD and give us the same extras as Blu-Ray or just lose out on the purchases! Just my Opinion!

Not to be Captain Obvious here, but you could simply purchase the standalone release of When the Lion Roars from Amazon and be done with it. It'll cost you less than either Gone or Oz.

Yeah, I've decided no go on this release. The wife has been wanting an HDTV lately, so we may be going Blu in the not too distant future. If that happens, I may pick up the BD of this; at least that may give me a more substantial upgrade in quality than another SD release.

Thats not my point at all. I realize I can "obviously" by the stand alone but it just pisses me off that Blu-Ray is constantly getting special features that are not on their SD counterparts! And there are some of us who do not want to upgrade to BD and I feel we should have the same special features offered to us! Again just my opinion-
