just about 2 weeks ago rob zombie mentioned on his twitter account that he just finished his directors cut version of the film.
videoeta states 101 min as the dvd runtime, whereas imdb lists the theatrical runtime at 105 min!
could this indicate that the directors cut is trimmed down!?
anyhow, i guess we will have to wait for another studio announcement
to see what versions and at what length will actually be released.

I was just stating it for the people who may care. Don't worry - the DVD will likely have all the Special Features as the Blu-ray.

Just because a director's cut is shorter doesn't mean it was cut down. There are TONES of director's cuts that are shorter than the theatricals cuts. The director cuts parts out and adds other parts. So sometimes in doing this it gets a few minutes shorter. But in the end we are getting (usually) a better film because the fluff is gone and the fun is added.

but we all know this film could benefit from a few snips here and there, and there, and there.....

I still enjoyed it somewhat. Some of the killings were brutal, and awesome. Will be keeping an eye out for the details.

While it is all symantics, I'll have to agree with dkedvd on this one. I think of cut-down in this case as implying less then the original in content or a subset of the original. If all you did was remove then it would be cut-down. However, if in the process you add new content not in the original, regardless of whether you take any away, it is no longer a cut-down version but just a different version. In other words, by having new content it is no longer a subset of the original.

Again, it is all symantics anyway with no one clear single interpretation.

A prime example to prove your case wrong about Director's cuts being better would be Donnie Darko, the director's cut is TERRIBLE. The movie just drags and drags, the added scenes do NOTHING but make the movie worse. But back on topic, I liked the first Halloween and the extended cut of it, I'm looking forward to this. I don't know why RZ gets so much guff.

good news is that the unrated cut will be released as well, unfortunately
rated and unrated will be two seperate releases.

probably partnered up with sony or something. they are in financial hell at the moment.

Well, to be fair with Basterds, Universal got the home video rights to begin with.

Like when the WB distributed The Aviator on DVD.

I noticed recently that Sony's been releasing Dimension backtitles like the Scream trilogy 3-pack and From Dusk til Dawn 3-pack. Cover art maintains Dimension look however outer box is uniquely Sony.
