"Twister" way back in August of 97. I bought the DVD player to watch it with during the following month. I spent around $600 just to watch "Twister"...oh those early days...

Aliens special edition and Dark City. It was around 99-2000. I remember being so psyched to have so many special features.

Gladiator and The Patriot in January 01. Same night I bought my APEX dvd player, even though I wanted a 5-disc changer which was sold out.

Rush Hour 2 when I think it came out in 2001. Plus a dubbed version of Jackie Chan's The Young Master (which dubbed or not is a damn fine early Chan film)

I bought around 30 when I got my first player and Montogmery Wards stores were going out of business (most were around $9 each in '98 or '99). I know The Fugitive, Maverick, Twister, a few Steven Seagal & Sly Stallone DVDs were in the bunch.

Re: What was the first DVD that you purchased?
The first DVD I ever got was The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It was a Christmas gift to go along with the DVD player my parents got me (our family's first one, back in 2001; my, have we gotten up to speed since then).
Unfortunately, my dad was unaware that I had HATED TLW, so we brought it back, and I purchased Austin Powers 1.

Yes, this thread has been here several times. I'll give the same answer I give every time too - Apocalypse Now - back on May 15, 2000 from Amazon.com.
You know, the problem with this type of thread is that it does not invite any discourse or discussion - just answer the question, click on the "submit reply" button and go on to the next thread. For that reason I click less & less often on this type of thread these days.

Bought the blue cover version of Caligula online from Ken Crane, even before I had bought my first player...which soon turned out to be a pretty cheap RCA model from Wal-Mart.

The Matrix - I had actually seen the menus and some of the features at a friend's house, and was blown away. I had to make sure this was my first.

"The Matrix" I bought the DVD after release in 1999, but I didn't get my DVD player until X-mas.
I don't have the DVD anymore (or my 2nd one "American Pie") but I still have and use that DVD player. Worth the $300 (then) just knowing it is still performing well almost 10 years later.

I think it was June/July 1998 and the DVD was Star Trek: First Contact and then Logan's Run at the same time. I also got Glory for free from a coupon from my DVD Player purchase. It was either a Sony Manufacturer coupon or a Sears coupon.
